Hello Vincent, and thank you for creating this neat forum. My name is Cian Beirdd, and I like to read science fiction and history and write what I call historical science fiction. I have self-published a few short stories on Amazon about the Arthurian period and Ice Age Europe. The former involve some of the more interesting characters of the period - Gildas, Kentigern, and Arthur himself. The latter involves a Conan-type protagonist in a world that's a lot more complex and filled with many more powerful beings than he suspects.Until I get myself an agent, I'm a regular contributor to http://www.Moviepilot.com and have my own blog on http://www.cianbeirdd.wordpress.com
Hi, I'm McKenzie. Spent some time reading all the really great posts on Goodreads today. So helpful! I feel lost in the dark when it comes to marketing my book, or the entire process. I'm a former web developer. I make furniture in my free time and when it isn't horribly cold up here in Montana. I have two labs which have been very patient with me while I worked on finishing my first book. I started writing kid stories in elementary school as a way to 'escape'. Then I met a friend in junior high and we would craft romance stories back and forth. Drove our teachers crazy! Anyway, just stopping by to introduce myself. My website is http://mkdevlin.com/ Thanks!
Hi everyone, call me Alpha C: I joined a while ago but never got around to introducing myself. Anyway, I love to read and write, but only for fun. I've never tried to get anything published or anything like that. This a wonderful group! I'm always on the hunt for more good books, and it's been quite helpful. .=.
Hi Everyone!I'm from Edmonton, Alberta. I live with my husband and 4 year old daughter.
I love to read, although I haven't been able to do it as much in recent years. I enjoy romance, horror, sci-fi, and fiction in general. I go through phases when I read nothing but a specific author or genre.
Also, I just started editing the first draft of the novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo this year.
I look forward to joining the discussions!
Hi, I'm Lisa. Did I introduce myself before? Probably not! Life around here is pretty crazy so I tend to post and run which is NOT good. Sorry. I am actually new to Goodreads and to Kindle publishing although I have published sheet music on line and poetry books before. My first novel (after all this poetry etc etc) was published on November 7th this year and I call it a penny dreadful myself but my friends say it is actually quite reasonable, if a bit of a wild ride through the imagination.... Am I allowed to drop a link? If not, feel free to mod me! The Cougar is currently on KDP Select so free to borrow. It should be in paperback too, but the proofs are taking an eternity to get here in the UK! My other books tend to be poetry and music orientated (an analysis of Vaughan Williams for instance) If you are interested, my author profile lists them and I currently have one poetry book on a giveaway. Hope I am not being too naughty here.
Hi! I'm Aimee and I love writing but am more of a bookworm. I love discussing books I've read and love getting recommendations just as much.
Hello, I'm Wilmar.I am a self-published author who wrote The Silver Ninja™ last year and am beta testing book 2 this year.
When I published my first book, it definitely got trashed in the reviews. The writing needs work, the plot doesn't make sense, the characters are unlikeable, but the action was cool. And, to my credit, there were only one or two typos throughout the whole book, all 362 pages.
As an author, you have to learn how to take criticism and know which feedback applies to you and which one is something that you feel doesn't agree with the values of your book. Unfortunately for me, most of the feedback was quite valid.
But rather than cry about it, I went into hiatus and bought several books to learn from, which I will share here for any of you budding authors.
First I went to:
www.advancedfictionwriting.com and read all the informational tips on writing a book.
Picked up the snowflake method and used that to plot out my book.
Picked up Techniques of the $elling writer
How -NOT- to Write a Novel
and Self Editing for Fiction Writers
These books and websites were absolutely invaluable to me as an author. I learned where I made key mistakes in my first book and took every possible step to correct them.
My second book is in the beta phase now and I hope that my beta readers will see a dramatic improvement in the writing over the first one.
Well, that was a long intro. But I'd be more than happy to discuss writing craft with you all!
Take care.
My name is David. I write for the betterment of humanity. I've started a new group that goes by the name of (The Radically Rebellious of a Rambunctious Nature)it is in need of minds. Join if you think, want to think or just want to be near thought.
Hello, All! My name is Ed and I'm a writing and reading addict. :)I just published my first novel this year, and I'm working on my next.
I'm looking forward to sharing and reading everything in this group.
Hey there everyone, well where to I start. I am both a Reader and a Writer. I write in the Horror/Sci-fi Genre but enjoy mixing it up with Sub-Genres like Psychological Thriller, Dark Fantasy, Drama etc etc. Pretty much this is the same style I enjoy in all media; The books I read, The Movies I watch, The games I play.I was originally born in Slovakia but I live in Egypt, for the time being hah but soon am moving back to Europe. Anyone have any specific questions? Want to know more or just want to drop me a line. Feel free to contact me.
Thanks!
Hi! My name is Melissa Ann Goodwin and I am the author of two children's books: The Christmas Village and its about-to-be-released sequel, Return to Canterbury. The books are targeted to readers ages 8 and up, but are enjoyed by readers of all ages. I've got a Giveaway going here on Goodreads for Return to Canterbury. I often make classroom visits to talk with kids about writing and creativity, and how we use description to make stories come to life. Teachers love reading the books aloud to their classes and often send me letters or ask me questions, which I'm delighted to answer. Here's the link to my author page where you'll find the giveaway and links to my books. Look forward to chatting with you all.https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
Hurray! After some initial fumbling, the librarians got my book Revelations entered into Goodreads. Now, the promotion begins and from what I gathered, that's the hard part.

It is better to be absolutely rediculouse than to be absouloutly boring.
Hi everyone!I just landed on GoodReads in order to connect with readers and fellow writers. My name is Vincent Thibault, I am a writer from Quebec City, Canada. I've been publishing about ten books, both fiction and nonfiction, most of them with traditional, French-language publishing houses (I apologize by the way if my English is not perfect). Translators are currently working on some of my books, one of which (a nonfiction piece on sports philosophy & the spirit of chivalry) is already available in English.
You might see on my GR profile that as a reader, I listed varied sources of inspiration: Mark Twain, Robert Louis Stevenson, J. L. Borges, Haruki Murakami, Yoko Ogawa, Natsuki Ikezawa, Jules Verne, Raymond Carver, G. K. Chesterton... This list is constantly evolving, and let's bet befriending with the likes of you on GoodReads will make a difference!
Thank you Vincent for creating this!

I use the Snowflake method and it really helps with plotting.

My name is Andy Kerckhoff, and I am a middle school English teacher by day, a family man in the evening, and an author late at night. I am a jack of all trades, master of none. And I just released a book on parenting 10-14 year olds called Critical Connection: A Practical Guide to Parenting Young Teens. You can preview it on Amazon. It's doing well in the first four days, and I'm getting some good reviews but like all indie authors, I need as many people to read it as possible. http://amzn.to/1inR4QH
Anyone who would like a free PDF (or other file type) of my book can have it. If you like it and write an honest review on GoodReads or Amazon, I'll send you a free signed paperback of it.
Hi everyone,I'm new to the group. I'm an avid reader and teach college English. I just published my first young adult book. I think any age would enjoy it though. I would love to have people give it a read and let me know what they think. Here is the link to my book Children of the Tide:

Thank you so much.
Politics rules unless contradicted by economics.Economics rules unless contradicted by technology
Technology rules.
Any improvement of Humanity that does't begin with technological events looming over the rest of the century is like whistling in a wind storm.
5 developments by 2030:
The first fusion power plant in France (2016-20's) By the end of the 21st Century, fusion power will exist everywhere
2. portablennuclear batteries that can power villages and towns for 60 years using depleted uranium, Smaller versions will power autos and buildings for years (2022) combined with fusion power plants, these technologies will end most internal combustion motors.
3. Forged composite carbon fiber (2010) that is many times stronger than steel, resists thousands of degrees of temperature, nearly as hard as diamond and as light as aluminum will replace nearly all metals and alloys. If forged composite was used to make the Twin Towers, the planes striking them would have bounced.
4. Space elevators made possible by carbon fiber will exist by 2030. They will be the Erie canals making possible economical trade between Earth and the other planets and moons of the solar system.
5. Confirmation of another civilization/civilizations will have happened by 2030. If fact of all the technological changes listed, its the one that can happen any time because we have the technology in place to find them. My personal favorite is Alpha Centauri because it is a system with three stars, three planetary systems and three life zones.
For those who don't know, an Earth sized planet has been confirmed orbiting Alpha Centauri B. Past observations have shown that when the first planet confirmed in a solar system is small (Earth sized or less), it's accompanied by a host of other small planets. It's entirely possible that Alpha Centauri is made up by three hosts of planets.
How about over thirty small planets in the Alpha Centauri system with six or so total in the three life zones?
The 21st Century will be more different from the 20th than the 20th was from the 19th.
In the great new renaissance, what will be betterment for Humanity?
Hello!I'm Latoya, a budding children's writer from Jamaica. I recently published my first children's book called 'Irie the Caterpillar'. Here's a bit of what it's about: A must read Rite of Passage "Irie" is a beautiful children's story about overcoming fear. It brings to light the importance of family support, in helping to overcome obstacles. This story shows in a way a child can understand and an adult can appreciate - that rite of passage, that we all experience. Here's the link:http://www.amazon.com/Irie-Caterpilla...
I love reading all types of books! Two of my favourites are 'The Glass Castle: A Memoir' by Jeannette Walls and 'Krik?Krak!' by Edwidge Danticat. I'm also a big fan of poetry. Hoping to get 'The Prophet' by Khalil Gibran for Christmas:)
Hi everyone,I'm Margareta Ackerman, an author, researcher, and singer. My first book is a Holocaust memoir about my grandfather's experience as a child in Nazi occupied Europe. I'm also currently working on my first work of fiction.
I'm so happy that I discovered this group and I would love to connect with other authors here.
Your truly,
M.
I'm a newbie to the group but an oldie-but-goodie as an author. I started as a book reader/lover, got a PhD in the American novel, was a college lit and writing prof, then ditched academia to become a freelance writer. Never looked back. My non-fiction books on the history of art and architecture (Annotated Mona Lisa and The Annotated Arch) gave me entree to writing criticism and feature stories for magazines and newspapers, but now my career is off in a new direction. I just published my 1st historical novel, The Eagle and the Swan, as an eBook from Erudition Digital. I'd be happy to discuss art, architecture, or anything about my new book (on a kick-ass heroine of 6th-century Constantinople, Empress Theodora) with readers. Let's go!
If there's one thing to be learned on this thread is always be first on a thread. It's plainly the cheapest way to advertise yourself.

I'm Harriet Rogers and I just finished the second book in a series featuring Honey Walker, taxi driver of amazing abilities. The Taxi Chronicles comes first and Taxi High is just out. Available as an e book on Amazon.

Information regarding my editing services can be (temporarily) found on my blog, under the "Editing Services" tab. I am currently working on a website, which will be at www.sikeditingservices.com. I hope to have it up and running shortly. Also, I am having a sale on my editing services at the moment! 40% off if you book before Dec. 15, 2013!! Check it out here!
Hey all. My name is Kevin. I spent 17+ years as an oncology nurse before I decided to take a shot at my childhood dream of being a full time author. Just launched my first book on kindle the other day Second Chances http://tinyurl.com/kzrof57 It's a suspense/mystery. Hopefully some of you will see the ad I having running here on goodreads and check it out. Also in the process of prepping a few more, but one is more humor/satire and the others are parts of a series which can best be described as Janet Evanovich meets the paranormal (is there a market for that? I hope so)
I have a website with a few blogs on it (still getting into the swing of that) http://www.klphelps.com
social media is still a complete mystery to me though I have a Facebook page and am on twitter. (don't know what to do with them tho!)
I love to read, always have, but have trouble finding the time these days, which is why my backlog continues to grow.
I have no friends or fans on goodreads...yet ;) but would welcome either.
Hello Kevin! Same here, I usually read at nights when I'm not too tired. You'll get into the hang of it all with time. Btw, welcome!
Hi ya'll.My name is Steve Schade. I'm new to the site and learning my way around.
I am also a writer, and I have posted the first chapters of my ya novel The Princess Joan Stories. You may find the novel at http://princessjoan.com/. I hope you enjoy reading it.
The Princess Joan Stories:
Weeks pass before Joan notices the quiet boy sitting next to her in class and pouring words into his notebook. “Hey, boy. What are you writing?” she asks. Thus begins the unlikely friendship between a shy, awkward boy and the popular girl. His name is Tim, and Joan suggests he write a story for her. “Princess Joan” becomes the main character in all of his narratives. Each tale Tim writes is a gift to her and reflects the issues in their changing relationship.
The Princess Joan Stories is a novel made up of these fairy tales, but as Joan points out, the stories “never go the way stories should.” These are tales with a twist, modern fairy tales, that don’t conform to any expected rules; instead they follow the quirky paths of Tim’s unique mind.
Hello my name is AJ and I'm a small fiction writer in high school. I started writing last year and loved it so now I write short stories and some long ones. I'm still in the "Fanfiction" stage of writing, but can create my own worlds. I love romance books and I'm a guy.
Hi all, my name is Liz and I've been on goodreads about six months but just found this group today :-)I've been writing sci fi, fantasy and horror stories for about ten years but would describe myself more as a reader - with the overloaded bookshelves to prove it! My recently published novels include a sci if series set on a live ship and a less traditional sci fantasy mixing witches and ghosts with a futuristic setting. Genre control is not my strongest point.

Hi everyone! My name is Spring. I'm new to the group and fairly new to goodreads. I have to say that I am really loving this site. I have been writing for a long time now and after very little luck with the traditional publishing route, I recently started independently publishing my books. I have four online now and am liking the opportunities indie publishing has to offer. I'm doing much better with my sales and love that I can get books out right away and design my own covers. Plus, there is so much camaraderie among the indie authors. I am really looking forward to finally being able to say that writing is my career! My books are all over the internet now, if you'd like to check them out wherever you shop. Just look for Spring Horton. :D
Vincent wrote: "Please introduce yourself! Do you write books? Do you just enjoy reading them?Let us know a little bit more about who you are:"
Hi Vincent & group members,
Though I've had a Goodreads acct. for some time, until I had a book to 'peddle,' I wasn't here much. I write a lot; the range includes blog posts to magazine articles to books. I've been published in nonfiction for a few decades but Deadly Little Secrets is my first published novel-not the first penned but the first published. I'm looking for readers and reviewers and hope to find them here.
Thanks

Hello everyone,My literary novel, The Muse, has just been released. I have a very small indie publisher who probably isn't going to be helping me promote the book much, though I'm happy to see that a couple of very positive reviews have already shown up on Amazon.
As an author, I am fiercely dedicated to creating beauty, and I hope I've succeeded with this book, which explores the erotic nature of artistic inspiration. I recently read Laurie Anderson's tribute to Lou Reed in Rolling Stone Magazine, and I was blown away by her paraphrasing of Willie Nelson - 90% of people end up with the wrong person, and that's what makes the juke box spin. That's kind of what my book is about...
You can also check out my FB page at https://facebook.com/SylviaGilbertson...
Technically, I also have a blog at sylviagilbertson.wordpress.com
- but really, I hate to blog.
I'm interested in exploring this group and all its possibilities!
Thanks much,
Sylvia
Hi Everyone,We are a husband and wife team of co-authors from Hawaii. We released our Christmas short story "Yo Ho Ho and a Very Merry Christmas!" in December, and our debut novel "Orion Connection" comes out in March.
Hi everyone! I'm glad I stumbled upon this group. I'm G.K. and I've always loved to read. I've picked up a few books from almost every genre and currently my book case is overflowing with both fiction and nonfiction that I have yet to crack open. I'm also a writer, and I currently have two released full-length novels and a three-part novella series in the works.
I am Lazo Ferran and I write, among many genres, Occult Thrillers which while not aimed at young adults seem to appeal to anybody who loves Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. I am a massive fan of the latter and my Ordo Lupus series draw on my knowledge of Tolkien, myths and legends, and the occult. If you want to try my Ordo Lupus and the Temple Gate please let me have your feedback. Without readers my main occupation in life would be pointless. I also occasionally offer my books for free. Is there somewhere I should post the dates?
Hello everyone. I primarily write poetry "Sitting on a Toadstool; Poems About Love and Life", has been out for quite a while but "Toadstool Two" will be out soon. I also have a cookbook out, "Jose Ortiz's Family Recipes; New Mexican Food as its Best" In the middle I have been working on "Cherry Berry and Ikazoid", a fantasy book that started as a result of playing make believe with my son and ahs evolved more into a young adult fantasy.
Hello. I've just joined this group. I'm Susan Oleksiw, and I write two mystery series. The first is the Mellingham series featuring Chief of Police Joe Silva--a very traditional kind of mystery. The second series is set in India and features an Indian American who grew up in India and lives at her aunt's tourist hotel. I have a new book coming out in May, so I'll post that on the Bulletin Board (I'm trying to keep all the directions straight). it sounds like there's a variety of writers here.
