And then i have characters in my head clamoring for their stories ..."Welcome to the group, Toni! New to the self-pub world myself, I can tell you it is a lot of work! But there is a discussion thread here about publishing and marketing that should provide you with much useful information. And while I only have a bit over a year of experience, I would be happy to try and answer any questions you might have. And I am sure there are more seasoned veterans that we could learn from as well! ^_^
Thank you Nathanael and Jae for welcoming me. I do hope to learn a lot from this group. Looking forward to talking with all of you.
Hi, I'm Julie. I write. Not just books, but freelance articles. My genre is horror, though my publisher has cross listed my book as paranormal romance. There's a bit of that in there, along with dark humor.
My book is Blood Burn and published by Riverdale Avenue Books. It's the first in a trilogy, perhaps even a series.
There's quite a few other stories rattling around in my head. Not sure which one I will write next.
I have experience editing, beta reading, proof reading - just about everything to do with writing. I'd love to network with other authors in every stage of their career. I'm not sure about connecting with readers as I'm not sure how many people have actually read my book just yet.
But, hey - if you're a reader, I'd love to talk to you! Readers are what makes this industry go 'round. Negative or positive reviews, bring them on, because it's your money and your time. I hope that everyone that reads my novel will come away happy or at least a little entertained.
Hello,My name is Lloyd Francis. I published my debut novel From Rum To Roots in August.
I am a former war correspondent who decided to retire from journalism in order to write. I did not write as a journalist I was a photojournalist.
I sought an agent for my book and then self published the book and last week it soared to number one on African American Literary Fiction and Historical fiction lists on Amazon.
I figured it was time to start introducing myself now.
Thanks for the forum.

Hi, I'm Geoffrey Gudgion and I write contemporary fiction that's grounded in the past. My debut novel, Saxon's Bane, was published by Solaris in August this year. Saxon's Bane is a thriller with a supernatural twist; it interweaves past and present during the excavation of a Saxon warrior's grave. So far it is being positively reviewed by the Goodreads community.
Solaris will be known to readers of fantasy and speculative fiction. I'm represented by Sheil Land Associates in London.
I'm currently focused on finishing the next book, another time-slip historical/supernatural thriller, this time grounded in 14th century England.

My name is Sheila Busteed, and I recently published my debut novel "Sunsets in Oia."I'm a freelance writer, teacher, journalist, photographer and designer originally from Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada.
I'm an avid traveler, and the creation of "Sunsets in Oia" took me back to the island of Santorini for a writing retreat.
After nearly a decade in Canada’s capital, I moved to South Korea to begin a new career as an English teacher. I spend much of my spare time writing, traveling and learning about my newly adopted home.

Hi all, I'm a newcomer to Goodreads and to the group, from Wales. I'm a reader who has just embarked on a 'career' (seems a little presumptions to call it that at this point, but that's the aim!) in writing, having self-published (Kindle) my very first novella. It's a science fiction, fantasy and humour thing, which (along with horror) is what I'll be writing, although I read all kinds of different stuff. I look forward to reading and writing in the discussions here!
PS. Since it seems to be the habit around here (well, someone else did it, at least!) to mention your dogs, I have 2 Alaskan Malamutes, and therefore no idea any more what food tastes like without added hair.

Hello all. I'm a reader (fantasy, sci-fi, mysteries, and cultural biographies) and a writer.I've just published my first novel, The Journey of the Marked, on Amazon. Genre is fantasy with a touch of sci-fi. The book shares the treacherous journey of five "marked" sixteen year olds as they make their way to a training camp. The setting is my own world, Zolei, which is home to a variety of new species.

Hi Vincent and other authors! My name is Scott Hendricks of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I wrote my first story in summer school of 3rd grade. I have been telling stories for what seems like forever. I write both adult and children mystery. I just published my first children's mystery. http://shhendricks.webs.com/
Hello all!I am DG Rampton and one of my passions in life is writing. I'm obsessed with the eloquence and wit of the Regency period and often wish we hadn't lost such a beautiful way of communicating. When I see abbreviated words in texts - bastardised beyond all recognition - I am overcome by a profound feeling of revulsion.
I have written a romantic Regency novel in the tradition of Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer. And I have just completed a contemporary Romantic Comedy film script which I am in the process of pitching to producers.
It's lovely to be joining you.

Hi, I'm Pheonix, nice to meet your aqwantance. I am a book lion ( my version of bookworm) and I love to read. I would probably describe my love for books more of a unhealthy obsession than just a liking for books. I am the youngest of five and I have OCD, ADD, and a low functioning autism, which is probebly why I read realistic fiction books where the main character has a mental disability. I also love fantasy, poetry, sifi and a little romance. I read at an average pace however I read significantly more than the average 14 year old. When I'm not reading I'm drawing or creating my own crazy theories for the series that I'm currently reading.

I often find myself sharing my CPT with others and we like to debate on weather the theory's reasonable it's not.
I also found that many of my friends don't write notes about the good and bad things in their books after they finish them. Which I thought was strange. I always write a hand written or a mental list of what I did and didn't like about both books and movies. I find that it helps keep me busy and entertained.
I hope that everyone does it and those who do and or will will have tons of fun doing it. And if I have a good imagination, Rebecca, than you do too.

I don't know if it's the same for you but I live in the book, as if it were my own secret world where even I don't know what awaits me in the near future, but for someone to just put down the book and not give it a second thought- well that would be the equivalence to being ripped from your world.
The book is a puzzle peice, authors purposely organize the pieces, edges in one pile, blues in another, but it is our job as a reader to put those pieces together to make a solid puzzle. Without it our puzzle would be a sad pile of shaped cardboard in wimpy groupings.
I think that is why so many kids my age dislike reading. They have this insane notion in their head that the author will magically put the entire puzzle together for you. They don't look for edges that mend together perfectly. And they dint feel the excitement of putting together a, even if only one, pair of puzzle pieces.
Hi everyone! My name is Theresa and I've just joined the group. I'm an avid reader who loves YA fiction and I just published my first novel, Fanged, the first in an intended 4-part series: http://theresabasile.com/wp/books/.Fanged is a little different from other YA vampire novels. My characters have only recently become vampires, and they're not very interested in the supernatural world - all they want to do is graduate without anyone finding out who they are (and without burning up in the sunlight, of course). So far, they've been successful at hiding their identities - until one of their classmates dies under mysterious circumstances, and all of their plans fall apart. They try to find out who is responsible for their friend's death, while the main character tries to avoid the company of the pretty girl whose blood smells just a little too good to him.
Fanged is the first in a planned four-part series, because there are four main characters, and each book will be narrated by a different vampire.
I look forward to getting to know more of you in this community!

The catalyst could be an amazing new world, a mystery (puzzle to solve), or even a politic plot. But there has to be more than just a cute story.

I haven't always enjoyed poetry. I haven't always understood it. And because of that I do know what it is like to believe that it is always "just a cute story". It use to be easy, to only see black and white, but not anymore. (Pardon me for saying this) but when I was younger I use to strongly dislike books. I didn't understand them. I was having a very rough time with reading and I was very below grade level. So I read the bare minimum, only going through the actions and never understanding. There for it is easy to think of a story as "just a cute story", to never understand it, to see only black and white, and to never make crack pot theory's ( which to me is kind of perplexing). But it no longer comes easily. It is not second nature. I have tasted the fire and ice coursing through my vines when I red books, quotes and most of all, poetry.
But that's besides the point. The point is that it's easy out first until you find that one book or that own poem or quote. Whatever it may be, it WILL change you, "for words have the power to change us". And never was Cassandra Clare more right when she said that. For words have changed me. And in return they may change you.

Hello! I'm Parvathi, pleased to meet you all! I'm a freelance writer and book critic based in Bangalore, India. I love fantasy and fiction, and my first novel, The Grove of the Sun is available on Amazon.comI'm also an avid reader, and I'm very happy to join the group :)
Hello. I'm Joseph but I go by many aliases including my penname J.U. Scribe. I've been writing since I was in the 4th grade but it wasn't until this year I could finally consider myself a writer. I love historical fiction which is why my debut novelette, Before the Legend is an alternative/historical book. It's been out only a week but I'm hoping I can not only gain exposure for it but find some really nice works along the way.You can learn more about me and my works at my blog at http://writersnookblog.wordpress.com
Hello! I'm an avid book reader who also adores poetry, photography, watercolors, kayaking, motorcycles, and seeking serenity. I have just this past month begun publishing my erotic romance series. I have published other young adult books in the past, but for "safety" issues I am publishing these erotic romances under a separate name. That way none of the youngsters think these are safe to read and accidentally buy one.
I have the first two novellas out and the third will be out in a week or so.
I'm finding it quite intriguing how to market these, if I can't go out to do readings and such. I can't use all my normal channels for promotions. Are there any other pen name users out there, and do you have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Ophelia
When I was a Platoon leader we deployed to 29 Palms California. Some folks will ask, what the heck is an army artillery unit doing on a marine post? We were an MLRS battalion (Multiple Launch Rocket System – and we shoot really far!) and we needed space to shoot our systems and 29 Palms was just about perfect because the entire post is an impact zone. We loved it. Anyway, we had been there for about a week or so and I had my platoon set up in a platoon operating area. I was driving around early one morning looking over some things when the urge in my bowels hit me.I told my driver to stop the vehicle and I climbed out, grabbed the shovel, the toilet seat, and walked around to the front of the vehicle. I then dropped the grill on the hummer, clamped the toilet seat to the grill, and dug a hole directly under the seat. I climbed on the seat and began to read. My driver, having a bit more couth walked around to the rear of the hummer so as to smoke a cigarette.
Unbeknownst to me, my platoon sergeant saw my humvee from a distance and not knowing what I was up to decided the area I had picked was a good place to feed chow. He approached my vehicle from the backside and he was oblivious to my disposition.
Our normal procedure for feeding chow was for the platoon sergeant to call the launcher chiefs and have them meet us at a centralize location, back the two humvees together, drop the tailgates so he would have two flat surfaces to serve chow from.
Imagine my surprise when I heard the tell tale sounds of approaching tracked vehicles and right in front of me there was one screaming towards my position. As the launcher approached I saw the launcher chief pointing and laughing his ass off. I looked to my left and saw another launcher approaching. This is a situation they really don’t train you on at OBC (Officer Basic Course). I did what every good leader would do in this situation…I reached for the toilet paper.

Hello, I'm Denzel Brooks. I read every now and again, but I mostly just enjoy writing them. I'm a new author and I enjoy gaming, and being an all around dorky person. My main goal as an author is to simply make people smile.
Hello Vincent,I'm a retired: college lecturer, teacher, bouncer in a college bar, hitchhiker, world traveler, and the occupation I retired from was Illinois corrections where I taught bad, bad Leroy Brown's nasty little brothers.
Naturally I write sic fi and fantasy. Currently, I releasing or rereleasing through Smashwords the first of five books called Revelations. It's a prize winner, but I need reviews and exposure. This looks like a good site and I'm looking forward to using it.
Since September of 2009, the Chicago Tribune has published 37 of my blogs in Letters to the Editor. One of them went viral on the Internet.
One more point: I would rather write than read, but I'm ready to read sci fy and fantasy once again. Anyway, this looks like a good site for my purposes
Hi everyone. Thanks for the chance to stand up and proclaim "I am writer; hear me scribble!" :)*looking a bit more solemn* My name is BC Brown, and I write paranormal mysteries, transgressive fiction, and fantasy (under pen name BB Walter). I have three published novels, and have been included in two published anthologies. (Although I have a third anthology due out soon.)
Also a reader, I bounce from literary pursuits to whimsical fluff. These trampoline times are broken up with long periods of not reading and active writing.
A theater geek, I'm also a frenzied karaoke fiend and an awkward geek to toss in the mix. Taken altogether, I'm sometimes refered to as a 'hot mess'. Altogether with a light vinagrette I'm a satisfying, yet light, treat.

*dramatic voice and many elaborate hand gestures*Hello!! Nice to meet you all. My full name is Chantal Noordeloos, but my friends tend to call me Chanti (probably because they can't pronounce my name)
I've written a lot of short stories for various anthologies, and I have two books out that are all 'me'. I have to shamefully admit that I'm a bit of a genre-floozy, so I don't stick to one thing. My first novel is a Steampunk story called 'Coyote: the Outlander', and it's a bit special because it has it's own second screen: www.coyotethebooks.com. My most recent work is a collection of all my horror short stories called 'Deeply Twisted'. I hope that I -or even better 'my work'- have piqued your interest ;)
