Goodreads Authors/Readers discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hi. My name is Kate. I am here because I am very interested in discovering new great things to read. Thank you.
Hello I am a British doctor working for a charity in Ecuador. I have written a book about life here in Ecuador.
Hello Book Enthusiasts,I am Prash, recently got back into reading as my train commute allows some free time outside of busy work/family hours. I love traveling when I can, and one day would love to trace the Silk Route as depicted in part in Paulo Coelho's "The Zahir".
I also published my first Kindle book recently if anyone would be interested in giving critique/praise, it is here ( http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GJL0CDE ). It is soon going on a free promotion too if you would like that.
Thanks, check out my shelves, and may the collective reading continue...
Hello everyone.Please take a look at my #book, "Jew in Jail" featured on the great #blog of @PrudenceHayes http://wp.me/p30Y9f-dl #nonfiction #memoir #selfpublish #motivation
Hey everybody! I'm Rob Evert. I write dark fantasy. I just started a series called Riddle in Stone. The first book, Riddle in Stone, was released in February. The second book, Betrayal in the Highlands, was released last month or so. I'm always looking for tips and suggestions, not just how to improve my writing, but also how to market my book. So I'm all ears!
I suppose I should tell you what my book is about... (this is always the tough part of the query letter, isn't it?)
Okay, here it goes....
Edmund is a fat, middle age, librarian who is inflicted with a stutter. Tired of being teased and tormented, he sets out to win everybody's respect by becoming a famous adventurer like those in his precious books. Unfortunately, his first quest goes horribly, horribly wrong....
Interesting???
The books have been released as e-books and audiobooks. The e-book for Riddle in Stone is currently on sale for $0.99 at http://www.amazon.com/Riddle-Stone-Th... and at http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/riddl....
It's getting fairly good reviews, but I'm hoping sales will pick up so my publisher will have me continue the series.
Fingers crossed!
At any rate, it's great to meet all of you!!
I am an author and audiobook narrator. My blog post about why authors need audiobooks produced is below. We all know it's basically found money for authors via a revenue share, but hopefully I make some good points. Check it out and share around:https://www.goodreads.com/author_blog...

Hi All, just joined and I thought I would take this opportunity to say hello and provide a bit of background information. My name is Andrew G. Nelson and I am retired law enforcement veteran, including twenty years with the NYPD, and the author of the mystery / suspense novel: Perfect Pawn.
I have always been an avid reader and have been fortunate in my life to have been in a line of work that provided me with a lot of experiences. After retiring I thought I would combine those interests and I found that I really enjoyed writing.
When I am not writing the sequel, I host a blog where I document my experiences in writing / publishing my novel and if you have a moment I would like it if you stopped by: http://andrewgnelson.blogspot.com/

Hey Andrew. Thanks for serving NY. You all don't have an easy job.
Robert wrote: Hey Andrew. Thanks for serving NY. You all don't have an easy job.Robert, thank you for your kind words. I was born and raised in NYC, so for me it was all part of the circus. I had a great career doing a job I loved and now I get to write about it. I hope that I am able to bring my readers into my world and experience things from an insiders point of view.
Hello everyone,I'm a prospective doctor and this career choice has my life in a throttle. I am unable to read and write as much as I want. Like most here, I'm a constant reader. I write a lot as well and put some of the stuff up on my blog. I consider readers and authors a very wonderful part of this world and often it shocks me at how much our population has dwindled.
Thankfully, I have a diverse taste for written things. Most works click with me if they're well written and thought out. Still not fond of non-fiction though, but I'm going to try my hand at a biography or two soon.
Welcome Komal, the field of medicine will provide you with a lot of interesting things to write about one day!!:-) Komal wrote: "Hello everyone,

Hi, all! I'm Ethan Risso, and I want to thank the group for an opportunity to introduce the first book in my fantasy series The Sundered Kingdoms Trilogy, Gambit of the Glass Crowns.Gambit of the Glass Crowns
Bled dry by decades of war, religious strife, and bloody political intrigue, Dweömer is changing. At the heart of the tumult is Connor, the unwitting harbinger to the end of an era and doomed to die before his time.
From the chivalrous royal court of the high king to the sacred forest enclave of Arlais, Connor must find his own part to play on the mummers' stage, just as Gawain, the duke's renegade bastard son, and Bronwen, the ambitious young queen, navigate their own ways through the tempest. With so much hanging by a thread, the stage is set for the final act of a dying age.

Please consider adding it to your shelf, and be sure to let me know what you think—good or bad, all I ask for is honest opinions. Thanks!

I've been writing since first learned how to string sentences together. I've written poetry, non-fiction, investigative reporting, short stories and novels. I love reading novels about interesting people living non-traditional lives. I live in the Ozarks and love surrounding myself with nature. I'm known as Bisexual Batman on twitter and Tumblr where I fight bi-phobia and try to promote a positive image for bisexuality. I live in the beautiful Ozarks and was raised in the beautiful Virgin Islands. I've also lived in San Francisco and New Orleans and have traveled extensively. Harrie Farrow
Hi All! Appreciating the opportunity to meet new people and possibly be of help in some way by sharing the re-telling of my successful surrogacy journey that I recently co-authored with the Mother who I carried twins for. She is a cervical cancer survivor who had a partial hysterectomy. We have been told that we are brave to share our story but it is natural to us, we have a synergistic compatibility and we both feel that our lives are open books--literally! Looking forward to trying to tip the scale of initial thoughts about Surrogacy from negative issues to positive ones...and make some great connections along the way!

Are historical romance readers interested in a sophisticated spoof? "Passing Wind of Love" by John Blumenthal and Barry Golson, follows the adventures of Lady Vanessa Hardleigh-Bourne-Bryte as she encounters a series of dimwitted paramours. Cincinnati Inquirer:” A gem…a biting romance parody." For details, check out FB page: https://www.facebook.com/passingwindo...
Hello everyone! My name is Andrew Yorke, and I am working on a book that's geared to pay tribute to the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, CT last year. Just this morning, we launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the remaining funds necessary to complete the book (http://kck.st/1jgXtZa).
I would love it if you guys checked it out. It's good to see so many other independent authors out there, fighting the good fight!
Hello, I have a book on this site, but when I pull it up there is a picture of the book, but the synopsis is not there. Has anyone else had this issue, or know how to get the synopsis to show up beside the picture of the book? Thanks,

HiMy name is Frank Claudy, I am an IT manager by day and a M/M fiction writer by night. My mother language is German, that's why my books are in German too, but I have written a few short stories in English that I might be posting someday. So far I have published my stories on a free website where I got nice reviews, but I like to spread my work further that's why I started to publish on Smashwords, Lulu and Nobeo. I am not so much interested in earning money, I just want to be read. So if you're interested in reading stuff from me, send me an email and I send you a voucher for a free copy.
Hello, new author Jae Holt here! I enjoyed reading through many of the introductions and feel very excited to meet other self-published authors. My novel, Circles,is a re-imagining of Dante's Inferno. I will list more information on it under "Paranormal Fantasy" but you may also find out more on my author page:Jae Holt, or please feel free to visit my blog or my Google+ page for more info.
I hope to gain much insight from both authors and readers!
My home state of Missouri, a place where facts are often much stranger than fiction, has provided an abundance of inspiration for my writing — and specifically for "iMplants," my first book of fiction.Following some work in television, film, and the non-fiction book "Inside Mayberry" (HarperCollins), I've come back to the medium that attracted me to writing — Young Adult Fiction.
I'm also happy to be self publishing. It's a job in and of itself, but it beats dealing with agents and publishing companies.
A big thanks goes out to Vincent for starting this group. It's a great way to connect with other writers blazing this new frontier of literature.
Greetings! My name is Christopher Buehlman, author of Those Across the River, Between Two Fires and, most recently, The Necromancer's House, all published by Penguin's Ace division and generally available in stores that sell new books.
Those Across the River is literary historical horror, a first-person narrative set in the deep woods of rural Georgia in 1935 and featuring a classic monster I thought could use another look. The protagonist is a World War I veteran suffering from what we would now recognize as PTSD; alcohol is the only medicine available to him, but he's doing his best to build a new life for himself and his beloved Eudora far from the mess they made for themselves up north. This book was one of five finalists for best novel in the 2012 World Fantasy Awards and has been optioned for film by Phoenix pictures.
Between Two Fires is a medieval horror novel, imagining the black death of 1348 as the first salvo in a new war between Heaven and Hell. Angels and Devils fight in the skies over France, a disgraced knight comes to terms with his past and a visionary little girl drives them on to Avignon for a confrontation at the Papal Palace. The Kirkus reviews said it was like "Cormac McCarthy's The Road meets The Canterbury Tails." I'll take that.
The Necromancer's House was ably covered by Publisher's Weekly in a starred review, so I'll just link to that:

Hi everyone. My name is Toni. I am an aspiring author. Have written a YA paranorm series. And started on an adult paranorm series. And then i have characters in my head clamoring for their stories to be told in other genres as well. I am not published YET. Still trying to work the ins and outs of self pub. Daunting, very daunting. But I am going to do it! I am also an avid reader of just about anything, except for non fiction. I average about 5 books a week. I'm addicted. And insomnia doesn't help. I look forward to interacting with you all. And any advice anyone who is self pub is willing to throw my way is greatly appreciated!
