Jeri A Estes (httpwwwgoodreadscomjeriestes) | 11 comments Hi I am writer who is self published after turning down a book deal in hopes of getting a mainstream publisher....only time will tell if I made a mistake.
I am hoping "Orange is the New Black" will open doors for Lesbian writers that are trying to stay out of The Lesbian and Gay book shelf;-}
The Advocate Book Shelf: Stilettos and Steel
In a novel based on her true story, Jeri Estes takes us to the 1960s in San Francisco's red-light Tenderloin district, the original gay ghetto before the Castro. Estes's ingénue, Jesse, leaves her suburban town to make a name for herself, only to fall into prostitution in the gritty Tenderloin. With over-the-top characters, witty dialogue, and funny situations, the intensity of the world in which she takes the reader will be sure to entertain and educate. Populated with hookers, butch pimps, ringers, feminine tricks, and more, this book is a guaranteed guilty pleasure. A must-read!

Shirley Williams (goodreadscomShirley77) | 2 comments My name is Shirley and I'm new at posting. I just finished my first book; it is religious and non-fiction. It tells how I was blessed to be engaged to a prophet of the Lord and it was done by commenting on his messages. He raised me spiritually from a child and it was done through his messages and teachings. This is a new Christian book that is different from most other Christian books, but it is none other than God's Word. I think that you will find it most interesting. It speaks about angels coming in the last days born like Jesus of Nazareth. It took me almost 4 years and now I am trying to market it which is so new to me. I need reviews also. Hopefully, someone will read it and give me a review (I will provide a free book.)
Pls visit my website: wwww.blessednessmymiracle.com Thanks

Vicky | 33 comments Vicky Adin Hi, I'm Vicky a New Zealand author and genealogist. My first book Daniel doesn't quite fit into any category. Written in novel form it is historical non-fiction. The characters were based on real people, the historical events are factual and the things this family did are also on record. There are few stories about New Zealand pioneers and how they survived. This decorated soldier fought for his new country, raised a family in a nation just developing and watched his sons go to jail and be transported for their conscientious objections to WW1.
A fascinating insight into New Zealand history has been the comment I have received most.
My current WIP is a novel about a widow who mysteriously receives her great-grandmother's journal written a hundred years earlier and decides to follow her footsteps from Cornwall, through Italy to New Zealand. What secrets will she find on her journey of renewal and self-discovery finding new life after loss? Due to be published shortly.
I find genealogy and writing have much in common and blog on my website www.vickyadin.co.nz

Jonathan Gillespie (jonathancgillespie) | 18 comments Wierd...I thought I'd posted here. In any event, I'm an author, now self-publishing my own stuff, but I've had short fiction published in various magazines and podcasts all over the world.

My key purpose being here is to connect with the broader Goodreads community, which is something I haven't had much time to do in the past. Along the way, I'm hoping to pick up some good book recommendations and find some friends.

If you're curious about me, here's my official site and blog. Thanks! Be seeing you guys around...

I found Goodreads while looking for my book listing through Google search. Just published a short piece called "100 Quotes" through Amazon's Createspace and listed the book to giveaway 10 books on Goodreads. The book's link on Goodreads is

J. Gleason (joegleason) | 3 comments Hi everyone! My name is J. Boyce Gleason (I go by joe). I've been a member for a few months now and figured I ought to get around to introducing myself. I am in the process of publishing my first novel. It's called Anvil of God, Book One of the Carolingian Chronicles. It's historical fiction and you can find it here:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18...

and it will be available for purchase just about everywhere online:

I'll be doing a give-away to recruit some reviewers in the near future so please be on the lookout for it.

While I write and read historical fiction, I am an avid reader of many genres including science fiction, fantasy, mystery, classics and spy thrillers and so find myself pretty comfortable in many of the groups here (I've been lurking for a couple of months now).

Look forward to meeting many of you (at least online)!

I love to read, right now I am on a zombie, fantasy, witch kick, not all in the same book necessarily. :D

I also love to write, and have been doing so since middle school. My dream job has always been to be an author. I am finally getting around to taking that step.

I will be self publishing the first book of a planned series for the new year. It is in editing right now. I tend to have a mash-up, from vampires, witches, fantasy, and post-apocolyptic.

I look forward to being a part of the community.

John Dizon | 108 comments I'm doing some cross-genre experimentation with one of my manuscripts, Rituals. It's a courtroom drama with a postmodernist flair as the defendants are on trial for war crimes in Vietnam. The battle scenes cross over in flashbacks as the protagonists appear to be fighting zombie-like hordes of enemy. Hundreds of VC break through the lines armed only with bayonets. Guess I'll see if that works.

The real gimmick is that the major protagonist is trying two major cases simultaneously, in NYC and KC, and losing on both fronts. It is only through the testimonies in both trials does he realize the antagonist is one and the same. It's a bigoted renegade Marine LRRP commando who not only provoked the 'human wave' siege of the fortified base in Vietnam, but instigated the beatdown of our lawyer's client in the NYC police brutality case. Adds a bit of a mystery element to the recipe, methinks.

John Dizon | 108 comments Natasha wrote: "Because of the topics in your book, what is the genre/audience/age rating?"

I'd consider this a cross-genre courtroom drama/action adventure, geared towards those who enjoy cerebral, high-impact page turners. I'd give this an R-rating for language, explicit violence, but no sex scenes.

eLPy eLPy | 86 comments Hey hey folks!

I recently published my debut collection of poetry, currently available as an ebook on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, and very soon it will be available in print for purchase. I'm not a formal poet, I don't really employ any forms, rather I'm a free verse poet. I have some rhyming poems and poems that range from very short to many pages. I got started writing poetry over 10 years ago because I just liked to write and I wrote what came to me however it felt best to put it on paper. That happened to be in a poetic format. Over the years I gradually began to write more and more and finally accept myself as a poet, and even later a writer. Lol. I also write fiction and non-fiction though I'm not currently published in either genre I am working on several stories.

I have some poems posted on my website: www.littlefacepublications.com if you want to get an idea how I write. And then you can enter my Goodreads giveaway that's open until Sept. 30th if you'd like.

So here I am as a writer and a parent to a dog, two birds and a snake! There's a little fun fact. :)

Thanks,
eLPy

My first Murder Mystery book is coming to Kindle on Sept 6th and I am really excited about it. It's called Romeo Killed Juliet.

I would love any tips from those who are more experienced and would love to meet people in general :)
