Dawn -- I've just started e-pubbing this month. So no, not much success yet(!) or maybe that should be (?).But I do know writers who have had wonderful success and know of more. I've heard it takes many books and a full-bore effort to get noticed before you start making back even what you've spent.
I'm just in the learning stages now.
If I were you, I'd stick to one genre. Now that the autobiography is done, create a series and run with it. YA Fantasy is a hot, hot market at the moment so the faster you can get something out there, the better. As a first-time novelist, you're going to want to have a complete mss. ready to go before you approach any agent or editor. They get approached by people with only 3 chapters (if that) all the time. A complete mss. will put you on a different level.
And if you do go e-pub, you can get noticed and trad. published from there.
Good luck!

Hello Everyone,I'm Cathy Spencer, author of 2 historical romance books set in the regency period, and a contemporary mystery/romantic suspense series with a lady amateur detective. These 3 novels are e-published with "Books We Love." My books are "sweet" romances, so the hot and heavy details are left to your imagination.

Hey guys!My name is Nihar Suthar. I'm from a small town in Pennsylvania and I have to say that I like writing waaay more than reading! I actually just published my first inspirational book a few weeks ago. It's titled "Win No Matter What" and my company is donating most of the book sales profits to the Acumen fund, an international charity investing in solutions to combat global poverty :). It's been such an exciting process!

Thank you so much for the free read yesterday, I especially liked the second one. I do have one complaint, it was to short. :-} It needs to be a novel, or at least flesh it out to 10,000 words. Great character, and I liked the king as well.
Good Day Everyone!I am a writer, wilderness guide, and ex-firefighter/emt. My main character's name is Deagan Wingrat. In my book The Cost of Haven, Deagan Wingrat loses his knighthood when his strident actions in the Borderlands called his loyalty into question. Now, in a near hopeless dystopian fantasy setting, he must break his oaths and go against the odds to do what is right.
It's a funny and epic fantasy adventure which is picking up steam more than I ever would have anticipated. I hope you enjoy it!The Cost of Haven: Book 1 of the Great Cities
Hello Everyone,I'm Carrie Cross, and am self-publishing my MG mystery, SKYLAR ROBBINS: THE MYSTERY OF SHADOW HILLS this summer through CreateSpace. I have a question regarding pricing: Is $11.99 too high for a 250-page paperback for ages 8-13? There is a huge range is retail prices and I was thinking of asking $9.99 but then the royalty is only $2.02. Any suggestions would be very helpful!
I have been a writer practically my whole life. It isn't until just recently that I have started publishing. I have published a couple of short stories, and I have just completed my first novel.I am also a voracious reader. I read the same genres that I write in which are mystery, thriller, and crime.
I am new to Goodreads and I look forward to getting to know the people on here.
Hello everyone, it's great seeing everyone after a long vacation. I just wanted to stop by and remind you all that the month of July is the summer sale at Smashwords. If you are looking for something new and probably at a great sale price, check out the authors on Smashwords:https://www.smashwords.com/
Hi Shelley,Thanks for the comment about my "Tall Tales Twin-Pack, Science Fiction & Fantasy." I know what you're saying about the short story, "Willimede's Quest." I first wrote it as a submission for the CBC Radio's writing competition a couple of year's back, so there was a cap on the number of words. It may turn into a book one of these days.
Cheers!

Hi, everyone! I'm Keshav (pronounced like 'K-shove'), from the now-infamous city of Bangalore, India. I've read a whole lot of books across fiction and non-fiction and don't really stick to anything particular. Anyway, I've wanted to write for a long time, and this is the first time in a decade I've written something of this length. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DJVMJPG
"Deccan Dawn" should be free today (Pacific Standard Time). I initially published under the pseudonym "Michael Highstone", the name of one of the characters. It involves a massive terrorist hostage crisis in Bangalore, with many people being taken hostage. A 22-year-old with serious issues escapes captivity and teams up with a commando in order to end the crisis.
I put it up on KDP Select for the better or the worse. I can't imagine a publisher in India handling something that spans mulitple genres. I know I've come to this site late, but I'm glad to be here at last!
Scott Richards here, and despite my generally goofy exterior, I have a nasty tendency to write some pretty unhappy fiction. I can't say I have a favorite genre to write in, but I've been told my style feels most at home in Fantasy. Recently, I've fallen in love with serialized fiction. It feels like the missing piece to my puzzle, and I've now based my entire indie author career around it. This week will be the release of the season finale for my dark fantasy serial "Before the Shroud" and I'm eager to see how my readers react to the wrap up and cliff-hanger.
If you like darker fantasy, here's the first episode:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CNZCR8I
Next in the chain will be a sci-fi serial about a man trapped in the body of a genetically engineered weapon. After that is an urban fantasy humor about a demon-hunter turned glorified babysitter of possessed artifacts that becomes the victim of a sneaky ploy.
Writing tips and articles (just my mad rambles and takes on things) as well as my future plans can all be tracked down to here:

Happy writing and reading everyone!

Hi Everyone
Well, I launched my novelUnbound Brothersinto the wide kindle sea and now comes the hunt for readers.
I've been writing for several years and had some pro sales of short fiction. Unbound Brothers is my first novel and I'm looking for ways to promote it. Don't want it to sit there and not sell: so any tips in that direction would be gratefully accepted.

Hi everyone! I'm Hope and I recently self-published my first book, Impossible Words. I also have an extreme writing challenge blog, so I definitely keep myself busy and as far away from writer's block as possible. Publishing my book ate up my free time for the past six months, so now that I have a little more time to spare, I'm excited to get back to all the books I've been hoping to read!

Hi! My name is Jackie Gaines and I am an author who loves to write and read books. My books are written to inspire the reader to believe in their own innate abilities to achieve things in their life they never thought possible. My first book tells of my journey to be one of the few minority women in US history ever to run a health system. "Believing You Can Fly" is a best seller that will make you laugh, cry and know that you too can achieve the impossible. My new book, The Yellow Suit- A Guide for Women in Leadership is a practical guide to how to's for women who strive to be leaders. This is NOT your typical leadership book. It is already a best seller for Arrie Publishers. My career spans over 30 years in leadership. Writing helps me "give back" all the lessons offered to me along the way. In a way, virtual mentorship.
Hi all. I am an American author, I have two books published so far and plan many more. I have enjoyed meeting and speaking to those that have read my work. I'll leave you with a link for a free download of book one ~ Fade to Black here: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...
Hi I'm chuckles and I'm a reader/reviewer. Most of my reading takes place in the urban fantasy, horror and dystopian genres. I like fast paced, action packed, or blood and gore type books with good characters and interesting sidekicks/pet monsters. I don't like gothic and historical vampire tales/sagas, very young YA paranormal with teenage love triangles and cheerleader uberbitches, all sex no plot or erotic paranormal, or books that are very slow or have f this f that every two sentences. I hate whiny heroines or bullying rapist 'heroes'.
I only review books that I think are my kind of story so don't be offended if I say no! Better to say no than give out lots of low star reviews! I do not review romance, chicklit, sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk, crime, erotic, steamy PNR or non paranormal YA. I don't have an ereader so I review physical books and pdf copies.
I plan to get involved in book chat, nose through the author profile pages for things to add to my wishlist and maybe link up with a few people for read and review. I also do what I can to promote authors and their books on my book group and by recommending things to friends.

Hello. I'm Kelly McDermott Harman. I've been writing most of my life, and just published my first book. "Did I Say That Out Loud?" is a collection of humorous stories about life. Did I Say That Out Loud? I am also an avid reader, and looking forward to getting to know other authors and readers in this community.
Hello all!My name is Trista Borgwardt and I am an author and a registered nurse. I have always had a passion for reading and I love to read almost everything! I found my true passion back in middle school when I wrote my first book about vampires.
After graduating college, i sat down and wrote my first novel Rabbit's Feet. The first draft was completed in 6 months and then I spent the next couple of years refining and editing it. Rabbit's Feet is now available on Kindle and paperback!
I write and I edit and when I need a mental break I read. I just released a collection of my poems called The Darkest Light, and I am currently working on my second novel and a short story series.
I look forward to meeting all of you and hearing your feedback. You can also learn more about me at www.tristamborgwardt.com

I identify with your editing and refining taking far longer than the initial writing. I began my first novel while writing my first book, "The Little Coat", a non-fiction project published in '09. 4 years later I'm still refining, adding, deleting, and editing! There will come a time when I'll say; that's it; enough already; it can go to the publisher now. And then I will never read it again! I know that if I do, I'll find things I would like to change!

A financial news junky, I learned about Goodreads when Amazon announced it had acquired it. Now here I am having the time of my life. I think the most fun of all is the reviews and the comments. Truly it’s almost as much fun as watching a center court match at Wimbledon. Get a bag of popcorn and sit yourself down, tune in to Keely’s review of the Game of Thrones and the brouhaha that ensued.
My memoir,"Casual Lies - A Triple Crown Adventure" came about twenty-one years after the event it chronicles. I’m unsure I would have ever written the memoir, at least without the constant badgering of the president of the local branch of the California Writers Club. Having written as a journalist for several publications, locally and nationally, I was attempting a young adult fantasy. To gain insight, I joined the writer’s group. When the president of the club heard about my run at history, she began her campaign to convince me this story needed to be told.
I owe Paula Chinick a great deal as a result. The process was painful at times, but overall cathartic. Memories I had buried, resurfaced and I came out at the end of the process bettor for the beginning. What I found and rediscovered was the wonder and joy of a very charismatic horse. As a trainer for over twenty years, I had the opportunity to affect the lives and futures of many young horses. None of the hundreds of horses that passed through my barn over the years had the personality, or vitality that radiated off Casual Lies, every minute of every day. No one who stood before his stall and looked into those eyes could doubt he was glad to see them.
Over twenty years ago, Casual Lies made my life better, and took me on a wild media-fueled ride. Writing our story, I discovered anew the wonder of chance and circumstance.
This process has opened up whole new vistas, including the opportunity to get involved in blogging, critiquing, and meeting new people on Goodreads. I look forward to continuing my involvement in the many aspects this site offers.
