Goodreads Authors/Readers discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hello everyone, my name is Wendy Stanphill and I am an author and reader. My first book Tangled Web is available on Amazon,B&N, and Create Space. I have been looking for an agent but decided to self publish and work the nightmare of marketing on my own for now.
Hello all, glad to be part of your group. My main interest of late has been social science fiction--not warp drives and planetary exploration (although those can be great) but the future of everyday things like entertainment, advertising, transportation etc.
This is why I love the recent William Gibson novels (Pattern Recognition, Spook Country, Zero History). And works by authors like M. John Harrison, Charles Stross and Jeffrey Thomas.
If anyone has good recommendations within this category I'd love to hear them.
HelloI have been telling stories with and to children for as long as forever. I have hand made books that I used when teaching, but never managed to get them published. I am now finding the time to write one of the many fantasy books that crowd my mind, I hope to self publish at the end of the year, depending on how long the editing takes !!!!
I love reading, and although mostly read fantasy, I do enjoy a well written detective, romance, chic lit, autobiography, thriller, mystery.......get the idea?
I enjoy writing short reviews and I am honest. I do hope people will read and comment when my book is out in the world, so I can improve as a writer !!

Hi Everyone!I'm Sarah Jane Avory, a part-time writer and full-time computer games programmer working in Cambridge, UK. I've been writing for what seems like ages, ever since I bought EasyScript for a Commodore-64...
I've recently self-published my first novel, The Spirit of A Witch, and am currently hard at work putting the finishing touches to my 2nd book (book 1 of a fantasy trilogy).
I'm also the proud owner of a black Norwegian Forest cat. She's my baby, even though she likes to wake me up early in the morning for breakfast and likes to scratch on everything but her scratching post!

Hello, my name is Rowan Lake Jr. I'm a self-published author new to the book world. I've published two books so far. My first novel is Beast of the Bronx and the second is Heaven Fighter Angelon. I am doing fine with selling my books, but would like to expand my market reach. I'm also seeking reviews on my books, to help me get a sense on where my writing style stands. You can find both books on Amazon.com
I’ve been a thriller sci-fi writer for more than twenty years now and over that span of time my books have gotten the attention of numerous literary agents and publishers. In 2005, I signed with a major literary agent from a major NY literary agency. This agency had sold hundreds of books and film rights, some for as much as seven figures. I was very excited. My agent loved all six (at the time) of my books and like all good agents edited them and provided insight to help make the stories more saleable, all without asking for a dime in advance. We had several exciting close-call deals and a few heart-racing moments while waiting to see what kind of money was going to be offered. My agent encouraged me to keep writing more books and truly believed that one day I’d hit it big.
Then something happened that turned my world around; a close friend was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. But here’s the kicker… he was given just two weeks to live. He went from his nine-to-five life, to knowing he had a very limited amount of time left. Having no close family and no money for a good hospital, he was left with little option except to die alone. It is then that my wife and I decided to hospice him.
It was an incredibly powerful experience watching as his life slipped away and how he dealt with it psychologically. When the day finally came that he passed on, I was there to shut off the ventilator and pull the sheet over his head. I’ve never been the same since.
As a writer, I wanted to capture something of the moment and relay what I learned from watching someone’s life end. Having never written a literary fiction novel before, I suddenly found myself in the throes of a powerful statement about the meaning of life. DROP OUT was written in a fanatic ten day period.
When I sent the completed manuscript off to my agent, he was extremely disappointed that I had gone this literary route and had no intentions of ever trying to sell the book. I had no intentions of letting the book sit in a drawer, so after a few emails and telephone calls we decided to end our partnership. I was devastated to be back among the ranks of agent-less authors.
Then something amazing happened.
I indie published DROP OUT a little over a year and a half ago, and since then sales have grown steadily each month. At this point, nearly ten thousand copies of the book have been downloaded and I’ve gotten to as low as 1,500 on Amazon’s paid sales ranking. But what is most heart-warming and gives me the most satisfaction is the emails and reviews that I’ve gotten telling me how the book has changed people’s lives. Almost every review is a five star and what the reader’s are saying… well, check it out yourself.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005FX0K7U
I’d like to thank my former agent for dropping me (no pun intended) and giving me the freedom to publish my books on my own. Especially, for giving DROP OUT a chance to change people’s lives. When it comes to the world of big publishing, deadlines, competition, and profit, it’s good to know that by avoiding all that nonsense, a little story with a powerful message can make such a difference in how people view their mortal time on this planet.

Hello Vincent,
thank you for this opportunity to get to know so many exciting books and authors! I am Swiss and the author of "The Zurich Conspiracy", a suspense novel which was translated by AmazonCrossing from a book that I wrote in German. It is interesting to live as a European author in Canada with a book in English. And hopefully more of my books will be translated. I am keen to get insights and advice from my fellow authors how to navigate this site (and other unknown waters!).
I`m Minolta. I`m from Atlanta and I`m a women`s fiction writer. I`m working on my first novel Perfectly Imperfect. I interview authors, share my poetry and short stories, and more. I would love to connect with you on my fb page @ facebook.com/WriterMCWhite and my blog whiteminolta.blogspot.com

My name is Senta Holland and I am also published by HarperCollins (Feb 2013).My book is 'Out of the Shadows and into the Darkness', and as you can see from the reviews it is a challenging, very different kind of book.

Here is the HarperColins Blurb and a link to my article on MarieClaire about women's literary erotica in the last 60 years. http://bit.ly/ZlRSYI
HarperCollins blurb:
A deeply felt and superbly written BDSM love story, Senta Holland’s ‘Out of the Shadows’ explores the beautiful darkness in seven bedrooms.
You’ve been enthralled by ‘The Bride Stripped Bare’ and ‘The Secret Diary of a Submissive’, now prepare to devour ‘Out of the Shadows’.
Senta, a thirty something Londoner, travels around the planet looking for the man who can match her. The one she finds is her ′Nai′, a high society American in Asia. Senta′s story is both complicated and made more exciting by the fact that it unfolds in the dark world of BDSM, a world that can be hostile to single, independent females.
Highly erotic, deeply romantic, funny, heartfelt and beautifully tragic, this book shows the BDSM experience from the inside out, as reality, not just fantasy. Above all it is an intelligent, insightful and deeply sensitive love story that will take you to places beyond your wildest dreams and open up the most secret aspects of your erotic identity. It will make you lust, think, feel and cry. Senta′s message to her readers is passionate and clear: Never give up looking for your true sexuality.
Real romantic BDSM with all the thrills (and more...) of fantasy, plus a real life size relationship and a positive message to women: ′you can go for your sexual dreams′
I'm Jessica, 21, mother, wife, novelist during nap time.I love to read. I used to devour YA novels within a couple days. I enjoy some John Grisham and Philippa Gregory. I'm actually going through a historical fiction phase right now. I love Gregory's novels. They're so beautifully crafted. I do read some romance and chick lit, but not too much.
I'm currently writing a novel, The Deceiver, that's I'm self-publishing this December. I have a fabulous growing fanbase on Facebook of friends, family, and others who've seen excerpts and images and are interested in buying it when it comes out.
Writing has always been something I loved. I'm so excited to publish, even if it becomes a flop, though God knows I pray it doesn't. I've had a story in me since the day I was born and the best feeling in the world is knowing that I get to share that story with others.
Hey all! I'm Garrett, author of a few books now: Non Zombie, Touch: Trilogy, Hit Girls and The Ninjabread Man. Most are on Goodreads and I'm working on the rest. :-) I'm a voracious reader and addicted writer and look forward to cranking out the words with you all.

.I tend to be drawn to post-apocalyptic, patriotic, and humor books, but I will read (and review) just about anything!
I have an eReader (Kindle) but I hate it! I love the feeling of holding a real book as I thumb through the pages and go on a new adventure with the turn of the page! I don't think I'll ever be a big fan of all this new book technology.
I love making new friends, so everyone can feel free to add me if they like. If you need a review, a vote, a comment, or anything else just let me know and I'll do my best to help you out.

My name is Sayword and I started writing about twenty-two years ago. I am an indie author and have published two anthologies (Second Chances, 2009 and Jar of Hearts, 2012). Currently, I am in the final stages of editing my first novel, SHADOWS, which will be published in the coming months. In addition to writing fiction I am a budding Historian (studied it and everything!), a wife, and a mother to three almost-grown children. I have a blog experiment (prompting365.com), but a wicked case of writers block has made year three something of a failure. I still have time to write a bit more. Here's hoping I can get back on track! It is lovely to (virtually) meet all of you!

Hi everyone,I'm Gladys.
I have published 3 books & currently working on my 4th. one.
My recent book is about sex trafficking & is set in the 80's.
I also run a blog so if anyone of you would like to have a spotlight with your book please give me a shout.
Have a good Sun.
Gladys,
Hi Gang--I'm a new superhero fiction author, with one novel out and another on the way soon.
I'm 46 years old, live in Florida and work as a sociology professor when I am not writing novels.
My books explore the idea that in the future, as the economy collapses, corporations take over the American government and a group of superheroes rise up to try and take it back and restore the republic.
I was always an Avengers fan growing up in the 70s and now I am writing about my own heroes in my own superhero universe. I love a lot of the new SH fiction that is coming out these days. Comic books are still great, and I read as many as I can, but I do not have the time to keep up with all the interwoven story lines. The world of novels (and graphic novels) keeps it more confined and in a way more grounded.
I love authors like Lee Child, Jim Butcher, Matthew Reilly, Kelly Meding, Patrick Lee, Dan Brown, Michael Crichton, Anne Rice, Jeremy Robinson.
Some are very famous and other not so well known. Great fiction is everywhere, if you're just willing to search!

Writing and Reading are two of my passions, but social media is not and in order to become more comfortable in regards to utilizing social media and to get the word out that my ebooks exist,I've joined this group. Hello,I'm Sara Greenfield and published my first ebook at Easter. It is called "How to Tweet Your Book" and was written after I spotted lots of authors struggling to use Twitter to promote their book. I was frustrated that they didn't know about free tools that they could use to help them target the right audience and save them lots of time.
I have been tweeting three books for one of my clients for the past 18 months and we see consistent Amazon sales from this.
I thought I would write a beginner's guide to twitter for authors based on my experience in getting results for my client.
I am now using the same tactics for my own book and it achieved #1 in the UK Amazon Kindle Sales & Marketing category (#3 in the US) and has remained fairly high in the UK ever since.
