So great Vincent! Taos is beautiful and a great place for writers! I'm doing a reading on Sun (April 21st 2pm) at Moby Dickens if your visit this year coincides or you have friends you'd like to send over this way! Definitely download a copy of "Steam Drills" and enjoy to the maximum! Rivera

message 5106: by Sylene (new)

Sylene | 1 comments Hola, everyone. My name is Sylene Kairo (actually, that's just my favorite pen name that I am going by for now). I've been asked to introduce myself, so walah...here I am.
As for writing or reading...I honestly do a vast majority of both, since the key to being a successful writer is being a voracious reader. I read a lot of fiction in particular, although, as of late, I have been focusing particularly on zombie-related books. :)
For my writing...I am not a published author, as I honestly have to idea as to how to go about the process of publishing, getting an agent, etc. Another reason is because I'm currently asking as many friends to read it as possible and edit it to the best of their ability. I want to get a lot of opinions about my book, because the more opinions I learn, the better I can cater to the reader's dinner menu, if you could say as such. Also, it is hard for me to even imagine publishing because I am only a teen myself. Writing is one thing; getting out there (especially when you're so young and it seems like there's no way you can get noticed) is a whole 'nother! The last reason for not publishing is because I want to get my original version of each book in the trilogy written first, then have them all edited, then release them one by one. I've been told that most publishers are looking for trilogies nowadays, and indeed, I can't let my story end with so many unanswered questions! However, if you will notice, there are an increasing number of trilogies being published every year (Divergent, Hunger Games, etc.).
I am grateful for this group, and I hope that I can get some good advice from other authors or fellow aspiring unpublished writers.
Best of luck to you all,
Sylene Kairo (author of Games of the Night; Curretly writing Tricks of the Light; Soon to be writing Whispers of Twilight, although none of these are published yet)

Teamfiction | 1 comments Hello everyone!
MY name is Nia Harbor, I'm not a published writer but I do however have a bit of stories started on my Wattpad account -
Call_Me_Cupid or xForeverxxUnwrittenx
I'm seventeen and in love with reading. I'm so into Teen fiction, romance, fantasy, humor and spiritual, especially. Any publishing help would be highly appreciated because I'm extremely lost as to where to send my ideas and how I can write them out to make them look interesting to readers in case I do wish to get that certain idea published.

Moira Katson (moirakatson) | 15 comments Hello! My name is Moira, and I both read (voraciously) and write (somewhat manically). I recently finished my first series and am looking to wrap up my second, before moving on to two new worlds I'm developing!

In the meantime, I am enjoying the indie author/reader community that has sprung up on the internet!

message 5110: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) For those just diving in, I would suggest joining a local writer's group. If you don't see one advertised in the paper, ask your librarian.

If you're writing romance, I highly recommend Romance Writers of America. There are chapters everywhere (and if you're not in the US, you can join an online chapter). I'm fairly certain YA and Sci Fi have their own professional organizations, too.

Decide if you want to go the traditional or self-publishing route. And above all, listen to advice and suggestions, but remember it is YOUR story.

Sadie Mills (goodreadscomsadiemills) | 1 comments Hello everybody. I'm Sadie and I'm very pleased to be here with you all. I live in Devon, England with my Maine Coon cat. In my spare time I enjoy horse riding, scuba, sky diving and travelling the far afield. I'm very excited to be planning my first trip to Alaska.

I enjoy contemporary fiction, particularly romance, but I'm not really a hearts and flowers kind of girl. I like writing that's pithy and edgy. My favourite author is Michael Ondaatje, though even as an adult I still have a very soft spot for Roald Dahl.

My debut novel, Virtually Perfect, is available on Amazon now. It's a dark romantic comedy set in Brighton, England (with the odd trip to London, Reykjavik and Jeddah thrown in) and explores the world of online dating.

L. Benitez | 118 comments Hiya!

I'm L. and I'm very, very, VERY close to publishing my first novel. I'm self publishing through createspace and it's my first book in a current series I'm writing. I joined goodreads to promote myself but also to make friends who love to read and write like me. This site seems perfect.

My book is an adventure story about ninjas. I'm a huge Martial Arts fanatic XD Anyway, the book is completely done by me-- the illustrations, front cover, and design.

If there are readers or writers out there who enjoy action/adventure fiction, I'd love to be friends with you! I'm still relatively new to this site, but I think I'm getting the hang of navigating around.

Anyway, thanks for reading my introduction. I'm excited to be a member of this site and I can't wait to publish.

-L.

Lawrence Cramer | 6 comments Hello Everyone!

I'm Lawrence Cramer. I found Goodreads the other day and have been addicted ever since; such a wealth of information. On top of being an avid book lover, leaning more towards the science fiction variety, I am also an author. But that is a conversation for another day. I look forward to engaging you all in some high spirited, thought provoking discussion.

Heather Cleveland (booksbyheathercleveland) | 6 comments I love to read and write! My preferred genres for both are romance and mystery (or combine the two and I'll be even happier). But I'll also read anything that comes highly recommended. Strangely, my two favorite books, Gone with the Wind and The Godfather, don't fit neatly into either one of my favorite genres, so I guess you could say my taste isn't very consistent :)

My first novel, a romantic suspense called Right as Rain, came out earlier this month. The response has been very positive, and I even spent a day ranked at #11 on Amazon's Romantic Suspense "New and Popular" list right under Nicholas Sparks and Maya Banks--that was very exciting! If you'd like to check it out, I would really appreciate your support and opinion!

I look forward to participating in this group!

Megs (meghanajain) | 9 comments Hey everyone!!

I am a reader as of now, but I hope I will be a writer one day too. I have been on Goodreads for a while..and I am here a lot. I do not follow a particular genre, my interests keep jumping from one to next. Just as long as the book has a nice story, a good grip and is well written I enjoy reading it. I am a sucker for a good romance though!! *shrugs*

I am joining this group to connect with some great authors and fellow readers, hoping along the way that I might find some great reads and make some good friends!!

Janna (jannayeshanova) | 14 comments Love Is Never Past Tense ..Janna Yeshanova

Hi! I’m Janna Yeshanova, author of Love Is Never Past Tense. Here’s a bit about the book.

How could he possibly know that she, a complete stranger, would inexplicably affect his life and be with him forever, whether she was at his side or not? Drawn together in Russia on a romantic Black Sea beach, Serge and Janna fall headlong in love and rush into marriage. Their divorce months later leads to years of "if only ..." Pressured apart by family and fate, they repeatedly cross paths, never quite reconnecting, never quite letting go. Changes in the world, their careers, and their lives, cause them to surrender to external influences. As they build separate lives and families, their destinies, shaped by post-Soviet political intrigue, collapse into a struggle for their very survival, and dreams of a better life. Long time later, distant memories of young, passionate love spawn emails that lead to international calls reviving an intimate, romantic connection to remind them-and us-that Love is Never Past Tense.

James Leighton | 7 comments Hello fellow authors and avid readers,

My name is James Leighton and I am a professional author with Simon and Schuster. I've worked as a full-time writer for the last four years since I quit my job as a lawyer and this summer will mark the release of my fifth book, Alligator Blood, which is a true story of the rise and fall of a tech whiz kid who has been blamed for the complete collapse of online poker in the USA (I've discussed the book in more detail in the Simon and Schuster section).

I'm really looking forward to meeting fellow authors as well as readers who can help recommend exciting new books to me. In particular I'm a huge fan of non-fiction thrillers as well as sporting and musical biographies.

Jim Adam (migdalin) | 2 comments I'm Jim Adam. I have one non-fiction book that I self-published, a literary critique of the Harry Potter series. My next book is also non-fiction, and it attempts to convince Christians that they need to stop using the Old Testament. The new book should be out on Kindle in the next few weeks, though I plan to wait a month or so before I put it out in paperback - hoping to catch any mistakes before it goes into hardcopy.

Jim Northrup (jwnorthrup) | 7 comments Hi;
J.W. Northrup here, author of a recently released work of fiction: "The Gold Slaves".
I is humourous, it has fascinating characters and a very important message. As I wrote in my blog:

“The Gold Slaves” is – in part - my protest against a particular misinformed, misguided and incredibly arrogant group that has risen to a position of authority in our country and it is literally ruining lives (the villains in the story). Read it and see if this story shines a light through their fog of authoritative deception.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
It begs for 2 sequels. On is done, the next is being written as we speak.

Hello Vincent and fellow members,

My name is Natasha Johnstone. I live in sunny South Africa with my husband and two sons faaaaar away from any lions or hippos.
Although I am a new author, I have been on Goodreads for some time now and I must say I love all the books I have been introduced to thanks to Goodreads. It is nice to belong to a community of intelligent people who love reading as much as I do.
The only thing I love more than reading is writing. Are you ready for the plug?? Here it comes...my book is called Capital D. There it's out!! I've said it and got it out of my system.

I currently don't have anything on my to-read list, because I am to busy reading Facebook news feeds, tweets, blogs, book reviews for blog hosting and Goodreads reviews. When I do get the time again to put my nose between the pages, (Or against my iPad screen) I shall announce it to one and all with great fanfare. Until then I shall enjoy popping in to see what's hot and not.

Love to all

I write paranormal and science fiction romance. I'm a small town Idaho girl. I'm a wife and mom (two pre-teen girls--ugh)

My first book is due out soon and I can't wait (honestly, patients is not my virtue) I am so lost with all the social and media networking stuff and feel totally lost in it all. But I am trying my best to pick it up.

I love to read just about anything and love to meet new people. So that is me in a nut shell (or maybe I'm just the nut in the shell). Anyway looking forward to meeting everyone.
