Infinity Gate by MR Carey (BR)- starts July 10
Thank you Cynda. I was just being polite with my 'please' :)I got lucky at the library today and managed to get a copy. Hopefully, nobody requests it as I'll need to extend the loan.
I will start on the 24th when I am able to stream another audiobook from Everand. I have a paper copy here. The length of the book intimidates me, so I will wait to mostly listen to the text.
At Chapter 9 of 80. Just now am I thinking I might be interested. If others read, be prepared for a slow burn. . . . .I see I started early when I thought I was almost a month behind.
I put in a request through my library system last week, and it's in transit now, but sometimes things can take weeks to arrive. (I meant to put in the request earlier.) Fingers crossed that it comes in before I leave on a trip next week.
I started Yesterday. I'm at chapter 12.
I like how the beginning gives us a list of characters to watch out for...

I started today. I couldn't help it. The book was just sitting on the side looking sorry for itself! I've just hit chapter 15 and probably only just now starting to invest in one of the characters to watch out for...
Yup sorry! I won't be picking it back up for some time though. I want to start my next botm on my next day off. 2 weeks :(
Ok, you are all off the hook now! My hold just came in and since I just finished Ode to the Half-Broken I can start Infinity gate right away!!
Don't worry, Cynda, there is no time limit. The threads stay open forever and you can add your thoughts whenever you read it. I hope you are feeling better soon!
I hope you feel better soon, Cynda!I am going to have to postpone my participation, too, because my library copy did not come in on time. I'm heading out of town for an extended trip. Hopefully, I'll have time to read it when I get back (if the library will hold it for me that long, assuming it ever arrives).
@Cynda,
Buddy reads should not be obligations. Take care of yourself. Come back and necro-post when (if) you get to this one.
@Kaia,
Libraries are amazing ... and occasionally time dictators. Have a good trip!

Wow, I just started this not knowing there was a buddy read going on, just noticed the comment in the Team Sci-Fi Chat. I too got a copy from the library after reading Outlaw Planet. Only in the fourth chapter but so far it's keeping my interest.
I finished about a week ago. For me, it didn't live up to Outlaw Planet! It just didn't seem to have as much heart. There were certain things I loved, such as the machine planet, the same-but--not-same world concept, and Dulcie. The first 12 chapters or so were a bit too 'sciency' (though that's probably a me problem). It's clearly half a story judging by the ending... there was no wow factor there. So, I suppose, I've got to read the follow-up!Has anyone else finished it??
I finished it and it was interesting to me how different from outlaw planet it was but still felt connected. I really like outlaw planet, I guess if you were making me choose between the two I would go with outlaw planet, but I did enjoy Infinity Gate, so much so I placed a hold on the second book and it jus came in, so going to start that next once I finish my current audiobook. I did find with infinity gate that it took me more time to understand the the worlds with the multiple character POVs, I was sad that it ended in a cliffhanger or cliffhangerish, I mean it is definitely not a stand alone, so I am excited to read echo of worlds. Now I understand why Outlaw Planet is considered a stand alone and people say you don’t need to read this duology first. I still think I will re read outlaw planet when I am done.
I finished it. Not impressed. No wow factor at the end or in any other part. Yeah, I liked Outlaw Planet a lot better.
Agree, Outlaw Planet was a hate-to-love story for me, it got 5* in the end. But this is more 3*. I'll look to read the second, but I'm not in a rush.
For a time, I put the novel down for another GR commitment and RL situation. Now I am in groove of the story, about 25 or 30% through. Flowing better on second read. Unless somrthing changes this will be 3☆ for enjoyment of story without any pull to read on.
I finally received my copy from the library, and I'm a little over half-way through. The first part flew by, but now I'm finding myself getting a bit bogged down. I'm hoping it will pick up. I think part of my problem is that I'm really interested in what happened to (view spoiler)
77%.The story went quickly during the Hadiz and Rupshi thread. Now it slows down. I see I will have to read Part 2 before understanding what this duology is meditating about.
Arrgh! At 50% my library loan ran out and they swiped it back. I can’t decide whether to buy the ebook or wait up to 4 weeks to get it back from Libby. I’m loving it though, so I may just buy it.
A few of you liked the many worlds but felt less pulled in by the characters. Did the book’s scale make that distance feel intentional to you, or did it simply cost the story some heart?
I finished the second book in the duology Echo of Worlds and liked it much less than Infinity Gate. Rereading Outlaw Planet now, this time the audio (I 100% recommend the audio, narrator is wonderful). I understand it more now that I have the Pandemonium duology under my belt. So in my opinion, if you haven’t read Outlaw Planet, wait til finishing the duology. In some ways they are completely different books but the sci fi mechanics are explained more in detail in the duology. I still like Outlaw Planet the best. I think while the duology has many worlds and many characters, the sci fi of it all is the main characters and the POVs are supporting characters, and most of them are unlikable (imo). While I did Bess unlikable at times, she does have growth through her journey and I just was swept into that story more. I did enjoy all of them, but if I had to rank it would 1. Outlaw Planet 2. Infinity Gate 3. Echo of Worlds.
