I think that we should have some sort of book challenge. For a certain period of time, say a month or even two months, we all keep track of the books we read. For each book with at least 150 pages in it, you get a point for it or maybe you should get a point for every 150 pages a book has, because some people might read a book with 500 pages in it. There could be other ways to get more points too, that we could write down before the book challenge starts. I don't want to get too involved in planning it though unless other people are interested. Also, if there is an interest and other people want to help plan it, that would be nice.

Thanks, do you have any suggestions? If there is enough interest, I'll post an official thread for people to keep track of points on.

umm maybe we shoud make a dicussion thread called "book contest" and then make new topics for new books, like one topic, fantasy books. then realistic fic. etc..

Dylan (greendragon06) | 178 comments Mod

I would definetely agree to a group read as long as the book was something fairly popular because my library charges money to do interlibrary loans :(

I have read the hunger games and the giver. I might have read tithe right when it came out, I really can't remember. I know I could get tithe or maximum ride series from my library and hunger games too, probably the rest, but I'm not positive.

Reed | 390 comments Mod

message 20: by Dylan, Discussion Observer (new)

Dylan (greendragon06) | 178 comments Mod
You are so lucky that you have so many books to choose from just from your teacher, thats not even including libraries and stuff. I'm going to head over to my library tomorrow (well, later today technically but I haven't gone to bed yet), so if I see something cool there, I'll bring it up.

Dylan (greendragon06) | 178 comments Mod
What is high heat about? If no one minds, I think I will come up with some catagories for extra points in the reading challenge, they'll be pretty open catagories, like, read a book with a love story in it or read a story where the narrator is female.

message 28: by Reed, Fill-in (new)

Reed | 390 comments Mod
high heat is about a boy who is a relief pitcher and he finds out his dad is a drug dealer. when his dad commits suicide he has to learn to live without him and it is his stoy of his baseball life without his dad. its for die hard baseball lovers (like myslef) and i would only recomend it to you if you love baseball and understand it well.

Dylan (greendragon06) | 178 comments Mod
I'm really more of a football fan, I actually only participated in Track/Cross Country when I was in high school, so books about runners and books about football are about the only sports books I can follow if they are really detailed about the sport.

message 30: by Reed, Fill-in (new)

Reed | 390 comments Mod
they arent really detailed but it has some baseball topics u wouldnt no if u didnt play baseball. its a great book dont get me wrong. i just think baseball lovers would enjoy this book more than say football ppl

message 31: by Allison (new)

Allison | 48 comments I don't particulary love baseball, but i stil thought that High Heat was a really good book.

message 32: by Allison (new)

Allison | 48 comments i am sure that none of yall are faster readers than i am. reed, you can ask Mrs. Miller. i read 300+ books in my 6th grade school year. Now i have so much homework that it messes up the amount of time i have to read

message 38: by Dylan, Discussion Observer (new)

Dylan (greendragon06) | 178 comments Mod
I know that I read 100 books in one month in 4th grade for a fundraiser. The majority of them were at least 200 pages, but I read a few books to my younger brother too.

message 39: by Allison (new)

Allison | 48 comments i read like three books a day. i had literally had no other life. most of them were 200+ pages as well but there were some shorter ones because we had requirements.

message 40: by Dylan, Discussion Observer (new)

Dylan (greendragon06) | 178 comments Mod
That was me until high school too, about the only things I did were read and write and homework. But then in high school, school work got harder and I gained some friends, joined sports, worked in the drama department, I was really busy in high school.

message 41: by Allison (last edited Nov 30, 2009 07:26PM) (new)

Allison | 48 comments Yeah. Between homework, school and club volleyball, and choir i have no time to read.

What's Hush, Hush about?
