Is anyone out there writing or reading mystical realism?

Eileen, Welcome. This discussion group is perfect for new writers. Everyone is so generous with their praise and helpful suggestions. Luckily for all of us, writing is not math. It's 75% inspiration, 20% composition, and only 10% actual writing.(The first two often overlap which is why math is not part of the writing process). This fact is also why everyone has time for writing. The inspiration can come at any time day or night. You might be in the school parking waiting for band practice to end, and WHAM your imagination has conjured up a new character or story line. Just keep a notebook handy because you'll be surprised how much time a writer spends in parking lots or parking jams.

Like Lisa #985 I have been going through various threads and posts and realise that this group will be like a comfy home to me. Such a pity that a downloadable good cup of strong tea is not part of the joining and connecting process, although I'm enjoying one as I type!
Matters Goodreads have been on hold for a good few months due to a family illness. However, am now looking for like minded friends in the group to share thoughts, ideas and all things to do with books (and life!).
What a great site and thanks for having me on board Vincent.
See you all soon.

I'm so glad to have found this site where you're free to be an author and talk about your books. I'd like to thank Vincent for starting this group. Thank you, Vincent. I will try to post my books in the right threads. But feel free to scold me if I don't :)
Thanks!

I'm Maureen and am a new author. I'm excited that I found this group. My first novel, a cozy mystery, is called Sunny Side Up, and was written in partnership with my daughter, Brigette.
Anyone interested in reading it and providing feedback is welcome to a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

I'm an author/teacher. My story, "Remembering Kaylee Cooper" has been recently published through Curiosity Quills Press.
I'm looking forward to reading, discussing and learning with all of you.

I'm a math, Science and Art teacher for grades 7s and 8s. Thanks for asking. I get a lot of my ideas for my books from my students.

Chris,
Math, Science & Art, that is quite a combination, do you paint or do an art form yourself?
I do photography & one of my books is a photo book on the Adirondacks. I also do watercolor painting, but I am still learning & progressing slowly, very slowly it seems.
I taught Forestry & my novel, THE FORESTER, was inspired from my students asking a lot of questions.

Do you have a website with your photography and art?
I illustrate my own books which is convenient - I used to do a lot of watercolour but found it was very time consuming and took up a lot of space -

Chris,
I also do a lot of trout fishing & found a watercolor calendar with just fly fishing watercolor paintings, & really liked them & I thought I might be able to paint paintings of scenes that I could not photograph, but of course I did not anticipate the long learning curve of doing WC, I will need another life time in order to have the time to paint the types of watercolor I want to do, so watercolor right now is a work in progress & more of hobby, so is photography, but I take photography more seriously & have had some photo essays in mags & always had a slide show to show my students on the Adirondacks & the National parks, I have been taking photos since I was 15 or 16, & have spent a lot of time with it. I do not have a website right now, but I am using a small business card to give to people that will lead them to my 2 Amazon book pages. With my novel I suggest they go to the Kindle Book store & read the 1st chapter of my novel for FREE & this Kindle Book Page has become sort of my web page right now. I am still working with my Goodreads materials & development & need to do more on this site.

Please check out my award-winning trilogy. They begin in the Orkney Islands in 1900, my characters eventually emigrating to Alberta, Canada.

This is my first book. It goes into comparisons between Erik Erikson's Psychosocial theory with Spiritual development of the Christian.

Sounds like a good topic that I understand very little about. I have done a fair amount of book research on what the Bible has to say about the human relationship with nature, but I am NO Bible expert or scholar, what I did was read a lot of books on the subject, books like Redeeming Creation, At Home In the Cosmos, & Thomas Berry books, all of which are on my book list. I'm no expert on the Bible either. I simply write what I believe God is leading me to write. I'm working on a second book now. Discovering Discipleship is available on Kindle and paperback, if you're interested.
