Rene' Donovan | 2 comments I'm fairly new to Goodreads but do have my two novels and my author profile downloaded: "Me 'n God in the Coffee Shop" and "The Daughters of Time" both of which are mystical realism. I invite you to my website for more information:

Is anyone out there writing or reading mystical realism?

Eileen Goudge (authoreileengoudge) | 12 comments I just joined. Looks like a great group! My question is, how do you find the time to write books and do all this other stuff? Still struggling with that equation, but then, I flunked math in school :)

message 957: by [deleted user] (new)

Eileen, Welcome. This discussion group is perfect for new writers. Everyone is so generous with their praise and helpful suggestions. Luckily for all of us, writing is not math. It's 75% inspiration, 20% composition, and only 10% actual writing.(The first two often overlap which is why math is not part of the writing process). This fact is also why everyone has time for writing. The inspiration can come at any time day or night. You might be in the school parking waiting for band practice to end, and WHAM your imagination has conjured up a new character or story line. Just keep a notebook handy because you'll be surprised how much time a writer spends in parking lots or parking jams.

Lisa Dawn | 6 comments Hi everyone my name is Lisa and I am new to Goodreads and I am also a new self published author. Thank you Vincent for this group! I was looking for a group that would be a place I could go to for guidance. I've read a few posts and new this is where I belonged.

message 960: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Brady | 4 comments Hello, I joined earlier this afternoon and really cannot wait to get going. I have been writing for a year or two with humour being my overall driving influence.

Like Lisa #985 I have been going through various threads and posts and realise that this group will be like a comfy home to me. Such a pity that a downloadable good cup of strong tea is not part of the joining and connecting process, although I'm enjoying one as I type!

Matters Goodreads have been on hold for a good few months due to a family illness. However, am now looking for like minded friends in the group to share thoughts, ideas and all things to do with books (and life!).

What a great site and thanks for having me on board Vincent.

See you all soon.

Chris,

Math, Science & Art, that is quite a combination, do you paint or do an art form yourself?

I do photography & one of my books is a photo book on the Adirondacks. I also do watercolor painting, but I am still learning & progressing slowly, very slowly it seems.

I taught Forestry & my novel, THE FORESTER, was inspired from my students asking a lot of questions.

Do you have a website with your photography and art?
I illustrate my own books which is convenient - I used to do a lot of watercolour but found it was very time consuming and took up a lot of space -

Chris,

I also do a lot of trout fishing & found a watercolor calendar with just fly fishing watercolor paintings, & really liked them & I thought I might be able to paint paintings of scenes that I could not photograph, but of course I did not anticipate the long learning curve of doing WC, I will need another life time in order to have the time to paint the types of watercolor I want to do, so watercolor right now is a work in progress & more of hobby, so is photography, but I take photography more seriously & have had some photo essays in mags & always had a slide show to show my students on the Adirondacks & the National parks, I have been taking photos since I was 15 or 16, & have spent a lot of time with it. I do not have a website right now, but I am using a small business card to give to people that will lead them to my 2 Amazon book pages. With my novel I suggest they go to the Kindle Book store & read the 1st chapter of my novel for FREE & this Kindle Book Page has become sort of my web page right now. I am still working with my Goodreads materials & development & need to do more on this site.
Jim K

Christopher Francis | 19 comments Hi Jim,
Tell me more about your book...

message 989: by James (new)

James Kraus | 15 comments I taught forestry for 30 years & my students would often ask me what is good forest management? Some of them supported timber cutting, & other economic forest benefits while others supported non-economic forest benefits like wilderness preservation. I became interested in writing a story about these kinds of disagreements & how & why they conflicted. In "The Forester" the main character wants to harvest a stand of old growth white pine, and his wife loves to photograph the beauty of the big trees & does not want them to be cut. As the book developed it also became a love story & an adventure story as well as a story about how different people view & value nature. What inspires you to write your books? Jim K

This is my first book. It goes into comparisons between Erik Erikson's Psychosocial theory with Spiritual development of the Christian.

James Kraus | 15 comments The Forester

Sounds like a good topic that I understand very little about. I have done a fair amount of book research on what the Bible has to say about the human relationship with nature, but I am NO Bible expert or scholar, what I did was read a lot of books on the subject, books like Redeeming Creation, At Home In the Cosmos, & Thomas Berry books, all of which are on my book list. I'm no expert on the Bible either. I simply write what I believe God is leading me to write. I'm working on a second book now. Discovering Discipleship is available on Kindle and paperback, if you're interested.
