Today's Publishers Weekly called my book Burn Down the Ground: A Memoir "a remarkable odyssey of scorched earth, collateral damage, and survival." They also called it a "harrowing memoir" and an "extraordinary story" and said I "face the truth with an unflinching eye." http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by...So, can someone show me how to sew words into a quilt? I need to wrap myself up in these for when I'm down on myself.
Meanwhile, Random House is hosting a giveaway here on GoodReads: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...

I'm new to non-fiction, having 9 novels to my name, but earlier this year I completed the biography of my aunt who was an Army nurse and a POW during World War II. It's called Marcia Gates: Angel of Bataan, and here's a video book trailer:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym4AmL...
Hi My name is Victoria Washuk and I am the great granddaughter of Ruby Side Thompson. I inherited her forty-three diaries that span from 1909–1969. Recently I started re-reading the World War ll journals and felt that they were such an important part of a history that will soon be forgotten if not remembered and shared with the world. Ruby Side Thompson, an ordinary woman living during the World War ll London Blitz bombing blasts history out of the realm of dry, dusty names and dates and places the reader in the midst of the terrifying events as they unfold. This is very important documentation and will have tremendous appeal to those who have an avid interest in the effect of the war on ordinary citizens.
In between the lines there is a glimpse of how life must go even in Britain-at-war as she deals with health issues, in-laws, censors, rationing and fashion. An excellent look at one woman's view of World War II from before the war to England's darkest hour.
About World War ll London Blitz Diaries:
Recently published two books on amazon.com that are both in print and kindle form. The books are diaries written by Ruby Side Thompson detailing both her personal and historical experience living in London during the World War Two London Bombing Blitz. They will be a series of four. Volumes 3 and 4 will be published in 2012.
World War ll London Blitz Diary Volume 1 (1939-1940) and Volume ll (1941). Volume 3 (1942-1943) and Volume 4 (1944-1945)
Included is a review by Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI)

World War II London Blitz Diary: A Woman's Revelations Enduring War and Marriage (Volume 1) (Paperback)
As war rages on all around you, it can be hard to cope with the pressures of warfare. "World War II: London Blitz Diary" is a diary of Ruby Side Thompson as she tells her story of living under the pressure that the Luftwaffe put on London during the countless bombings throughout the war, pushing England to the brink of destruction. A personal story of a mother trying to keep her life together along with simple survival, "World War II" is a choice pick, not to be overlooked.

American Wop - Beaver Buffalo Buttons Brass Boxing and Beer: That's why you're here!by Jack Tar
-- Shouts out our history and social dilemma that contributed the rise of the American Wop (and American Flop.)
The story comes from Jack’s Grandfather who taught the foundations of life through the art of boxing - its history, and discipline - The art of boxing couples with his Great Grandfathers story about colonialism, industrialization, marketing, and technological change.
Jack’s Uncle Joe (a boxing savant); tells the worlds history of boxing and how it meshes with the fabric of our history, storytelling, comedy, and politics. Joe ties the stories together illuminating the hubris of the times.
The hero's vignettes with their situations, shortfalls and downfalls are artfully woven together showing them to be vibrant stoic characters who suffered bitterly in the wake of the changing technological landscape.
Interactions of four generations simultaneously give a needed wide view lacking in many of today’s works.
The first part of the book American Wop begins with the authors experience in his families ancestral Scotland while his Grandfather lay dying in the US. A phone call signaled his Grandfathers impending end was really an announcement made years before. The surreal events leading to death drives his Grandfathers departure home.
The author weaves their history together in a form that brings together the first-rate appeal of the characters, their forgotten society, and our lost Americana.
Jacks time spent brushing shoulders with World Champion Boxers with hilarity and tear-jerking results shows the famous characters never published true colors.
There's a story in here - for everyone! Please enjoy American Wop while learning something of why you're here.

I am looking to make GR friends and people who are willing to read my blog is they like it.
I am very creative and a self-confessed self-help spirituality borderline New Age fanatic. And a lot of fun.

Barley Hole was for my great grandfather Canaan, the land of milk and honey. For my father, it was paradise lost and for my mother, Barley Hole was a curse. It was a place that haunted her spirit and her soul throughout her life. To me, Barley Hole is a name forever etched on the map of my family's heart; it is where betrayal and injustice nearly thrust us into oblivion.
The Barley Hole Chronicles are an odyssey of the human spirit that stretch across time and geography to incorporate, diverse personalities, personal hardships, World Wars and the struggle for peace and love, in a society fallen from grace. These Chronicles document one Yorkshire family's decent into the wilderness of poverty and hunger. It is a personal record of one young man's struggle to survive the great depression, the Second World War and the hazards and wonders of life in post war Germany. The Barley Hole Chronicles are a summation of two memoirs by Harry Leslie Smith 1923 and Hamburg 1947. The Barley Hole Chronicles are a true account of a time and place when life, full of raw emotion, was never so real. It is also a social history of the 20th century at its bloodiest and deadliest time.
Hello All,
My name is Neil Chopra and I’m a first time author that has just self-published a book entitled Perpetual Patterns on Amazon. This book is an attempt to wholly explain my own philosophies and view of the world, coalescing around patterns I have observed in my own and other people’s behavior.
The book is quite short (just about 100 pages). Each chapter begins with a poem to visualize the pattern, a (hopefully) straight forward reflection on the topic, and a series of questions to ponder. I have actually setup a website at http://www.perpatterns.com where all the chapter content is freely available to explore before you even consider the published versions. I feel this is a culmination of all my thoughts in the exact way I want to present them, so it is much more important to me that people get a chance to read it through fully than necessarily buy a copy.
I’ve really only had a chance to get feedback from family and friends. They’ve all been very supportive, but not everyone has had the patience to read through it all (though those who have seem to really enjoy and appreciate it). I just recently came upon Goodreads, which clearly has an amazing reading community, and wanted to share this work with you and hopefully get your feedback (librarians have already been unbelievably helpful). In addition, I’m eager to read work from others that hit these same topics; I’d be very grateful for suggestions to that end.
I look forward to continue exploring this site (and reading others’ self-published works), and would appreciate it if you gave my book a read!
Thanks,
Neil Chopra

I loved your book.
Hi,I've just released my first book The Anne Boleyn Collection: The Real Truth about the Tudors which is a collection of articles on Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII, Henry's six wives and Tudor personalities. It's been an exciting experience.
Heroes. Who are the heroes of what was known in its day as the Great War that we will remember with the upcoming 100th anniversary of WWI, the “War to end all Wars”? My biography “George W. Hamilton, USMC: America’s Greatest World War I Hero” tells of the life story of one amazing Marine, who was a role model for all members of the “Old Breed”. Hamilton was with the first group of Americans to set foot on French soil. As a company commander he led the way in America’s first major assault called Belleau Wood at 0350 on June 6, 1918, which was instrumental in saving Paris. Four days later was recommended for the Medal of Honor. As a battalion commander, he held his ground in “The Box” at the battle of Blanc Mont Ridge and forced the Germans to a hasty retreat. His battalion losses were greater than those of the Lost Battalion in “The Pocket”, both of which occurred in early October. On November 11, Armistice Day, due to his forward movement he was the final ranking American officer to hear the news that the Great War was over. From the start until the end he was fully engaged in all the major action completing 100% of his objectives. Hamilton died in 1922 at age 29 in a tragic military aviation accident.
Major Hamilton was recommended twice for the Medal of Honor; however for reasons explained in my book, no Marine Corps commissioned officer would receive our nation’s highest award. Sadly, America never fully got to know our greatest hero of World War I. If you love heroes and untold amazing early 20th Century American history, you ought to appreciate this book.

Hi,I was born in the USSR and lived a life when freedom was a dream. Ending up in gulag was not a "fantasy history" book for me, but a reality.
I was making guitars in a root cellar using only primitive hand tools. In my case it was a crime because it was a form of a CAPITALISM. My Soviet life, how I ended up in USA and today making guitars for collectors and many artists like Keith Urban and Buddy Guy,covered in my book "If Guitars Could Talk". Please explore it @ Amazon, B&N and iBooks.

Thank you for offering this opprtunity. My name is Suzanne Jauchius and my memoir is entitled You Know Your Way Home. It is a true story about a woman with 5 husbands, secretly chasing killers and missing people, until she collides with a brash mystery man, an abrupt therapist in a padded room and a revered Lakota medicine man.
MARKETING SPIEL: Like a modern day version of the Greek mythological heroine Cassandra, Suzanne sees the future and is shunned for it. She struggles as a child not always knowing what is real and what is "seen". Her curse-gift complicates her adulthood as she must seek to find a way to trust herself again.
The narrative contains twists and turns which traverses true crime scenes, missing persons, addictions, co-dependency and mystical and unbelievable experiences which become quite believable. Live action Book Trailer here: http://youtu.be/3krzrcqsAC8
I am running a Goodreads print book giveaway that ends on March 31st. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/66886...
Thank you all. It is an exciting new world where access to what we want to read is unfettered and not pre-screened by a few big publishing houses.
Reviews and feedback would be so welcome. You Know Your Way Home
Winner of the Reader Views Southern Regional Best Book award and the Sharp Writ Book Award for Autobiography, *The Gorilla Man and the Empress of Steak: A New Orleans Family Memoir* is the story of two larger-than-life characters and the son whom their lives helped to shape. Ruth Fertel was a petite, smart, tough-as-nails blonde with a weakness for rogues, who founded the Ruth's Chris Steak House empire almost by accident. Rodney Fertel was a gold-plated, one-of-a-kind personality, a railbird-heir to wealth from a pawnshop of dubious repute just around the corner from where the teenage Louis Armstrong and his trumpet were discovered. When Fertel ran for mayor of New Orleans on a single campaign promise-buying a pair of gorillas for the zoo-he garnered a paltry 308 votes. Then he purchased the gorillas anyway! These colorful figures yoked together two worlds not often connected-lazy rice farms in the bayous and swinging urban streets where ethnicities jazzily collided. A trip downriver to the hamlet of Happy Jack focuses on its French-Alsatian roots, bountiful tables, and self-reliant lifestyle that inspired a restaurant legend. The story also offers a close-up of life in the Old Jewish Quarter on Rampart Street-and how it intersected with the denizens of "Back a' Town," just a few blocks away, who brought jazz from New Orleans to the world.
*The Gorilla Man and the Empress of Steak* is a New Orleans story, featuring the distinctive characters, color, food, and history of that city-before Hurricane Katrina and after. But it also is the universal story of family and the full magnitude of outsize follies leavened with equal measures of humor, rage, and rue.
Help with my id number. I am creating my blog in WordPress where there is a Widget to display my books from Goodreads. What if my book doesn't fit browse categories? "No Broken Bones" isn't a how-to, nor a memoir, a true-crime, a textbook, a comedy, a journal, a history. I call it Narrative Nonfiction, which means it's a true story that reads like a novel. Most fitting would be Expose because it's about failures of a child-protection agency, but that category isn't offered. I want to do a free Kindle ebook promotion. Any suggestions?
Hello, everyone, and especially those with any interest in the bizarre sport known as U.S. politics... I have a question for you:IS GLENN BECK A LIBERAL?
Perhaps not, but when I decided to plant that idea out in the "Twitterverse" some interesting conversations begin. People shout at him (MORON!), block him (SCUMSUCKER!), and belittle him (WAKE UP, IDIOT!). Eventually, though, some people start to listen...
With discussions about politics, schools, national security, manifestos, the Pledge of Allegiance, the Flag Code--and the Senate's Candy Desk--my book cuts a wide swath through the issues facing our country, a country he claims has a serious case of "Electile Dysfunction."
Sample chapters available; check my website at www.chasingglennbeck.com, and leave a comment/response!

In your wordpress edit profile page at the very bottom there is a section called Verified External Services
Verifying an external service helps people to confirm that you are in fact who you say you are.
These will all be listed on your public profile.
Select goodreads from the drop down list and let Gravatar verify for you.
If you have your goodreads page open, it will automatically collect your info once you approve it.
Funny you should ask this question because I just did this today!
Well, I committed. I'm doing a 3-day promotional freebie on amazon. Maybe it will breathe new life into by nonfiction book. It was a success for my novel, so I thought it was worth a shot. I'll post it on the free e-book discussion when it's up & running. No Broken Bones

Any tips on browse categories in non-fiction? I can't find my book anywhere on Amazon's filters. I'd like to track the free-promotion.

I searched on your name and that book still didn't show up, so maybe it's not in the Amazon system yet?

Hello. Every second week I read a brand new popular non-fiction book at the intersection of science and the humanities and write an article wherein I summarize the main argument of the book and offer up some of the juicier details and anecdotes to be found therein (at newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com). Some of the books I've covered recently include 'The Social Conquest of Earth' by E.O. Wilson; 'The Power of Habit' by Charles Duhigg; and 'Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think' by Peter Diamandis. Feel free to drop by the site to check out my work (again, newbooksinbrief.wordpress.com)Cheers,

Dearest potential readers,Check out my humorous memoir about bipolar disorder titled SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW, I'VE LOST MY DAMN MIND. It's the story of one Millennial's bipolar life with moments ranging from the ridiculous to the terrifying to the hilarious.
More than an account of coming to terms with a mental health condition, it’s a story of being young and feeling lost, dealing with heartbreak and still finding plenty to laugh about, no matter what happens.

Here's my latest new release The New Author. I'm running a giveaway for 1 paperback copy here: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sho...
This book is in three parts: basic novel writing; how to establish a social media platform to push your indie author brand; and epublishing your work on KDP and Smashwords.
I was very fortunate to get a foreword (through a friend) from established mainstream author, and Booker Prize nominee, Jim Williams.
It's not all dry stuff in The New Author. There's a touch of humour here and there that might make you smile.
The New Author is a work of 44,000 words, available as an ebook and in paperback.
Cheers

This is my adventure for over 35 years with friends and family traveling around the country and over time to see a game played by every major college football team at least once. I've seem all 120 Football Bowl Subdivison teams play at last once among 421 games I've attended through the 2011 season (and I'm still married and have two kids). Stories are not just about game action and highlights, but about people met, things done, historical perspectives of the times, and fun stories to share about all the great times with not only for college football fans or sports fans, but for people who enjoy stories about travel, history, humor, and family relationships. I hope readers have as much fun reading about it as much as I had the fun of doing this and writing about it!
“Human Property Hanging in the Family Tree Yields a Harvest,” is a true story of the life and times of Mariah and her family. Mariah was born a slave, witnessed the brutality of slavery, and fought the KKK. Mariah’s departure to transcend from human property to a human being was met with opposition, as she and her family channeled through the violent Reconstruction Era. As the matriarch of her family, Mariah, was unwavering as she attempted to sail through the iniquitous institution of inequality. She remained steadfast in her hope of attaining the American dream.

We all know that in order to be a successful investor, we should buy low and sell high. In other words, we should pay a low price for our investment and sell it for a higher price. So why do many of us do exactly the opposite? Why do we buy high and sell low?To answer this question, I would like you to join me on a journey. As you read this book, you will realize some of the major mistakes we make as investors. You will discover why being liked does not make you a good investor, why our inability to not act might stop us from achieving the success we want, and why 88 percent of Swedish drivers believe they are safer drivers than most.
I wrote this book also because I have seen too many people jump in to commit their hard-earned money without knowing the basics of investments, making the same mistakes over and over again and ending up with unsatisfactory results and even frustration about investing. I want you to know more.
This will be the first step in a long and enjoyable journey, during which you will learn how to think about yourself as an investor, some of the checklists you’ll need to go through when investing, and how to find a suitable investment at the right price.
Enjoy!

Why Do We Sell Low and Buy High?: The guide you must read Before you invest
Hi there. My name is David McGarry and I'm the author of The Atlantis Precedent. This book tries to cover several subjects. Firstly, it is about civilisations around the world that have been vanquished by climate change. In the process of explaining how some very ancient places were abandoned when conditions were no longer favourable, the book has its own theory on how, when, where and even why human civilisation started.
The book title refers to Atlantis, and there is a section devoted to guessing (let's face it: every story about Atlantis is a guess) where it was, what kind of place and why and when it disappeared.
The second half of the book is devoted to outlining the threats we face right now from climate change. Some of the potential issues will take generations to reach their full impact, while others could wreak havoc on an almost unimaginable scale in just a few hours. Just as it might have done to Atlantis.
To find out more, you can visit my website at www.theatlantisprecedent.com or read the book for free in your browser at http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13....
If anyone is interested in reviewing my book, I would be happy to send them a pdf or kindle version by email. I fully respect the impartiality of anyone kind enough to offer a review.
Hi all. My name is Tim Deans and I've written a book called, 'Good horn, good brakes and good luck'. It is an account of two rally trips I completed. The first involved driving a thirty-year-old Mercedes across Europe and Africa to the Gambia, and the second trip crossed northern India and Nepal in a three-wheeler autorickshaw (one of those little taxis like Roger Moore used for a car chase in Octopussy).I've self-published through Amazon as a kindle book and I'm working on a Createspace version at the moment. I'm happy to send a kindle or pdf version to any reviewers.
