Stephen Pearl (stephenp11) | 272 comments Hi all. I’m just letting folk know that I will be at the World Fantasy Convention from November 1st through the 4th 2012. I’ll be doing a panel on the 1st that’s right up my street.

2:00 p.m. WHITHER THE DARK ARTS?
Psychic detectives were popular throughout much of the twentieth century, and in the 1960s the novels of Dennis Wheatley played heavily on the Black Mass and other occult practices. Do psychic detectives still have “legs” in the technological world of the twentyfirst century? The overtly occult is more common in secondary worlds. Why is this? And will psychic detectives and the dark arts make a comeback?
Stephen Pearl (M), Richard Gavin, Derek Kunsken, David Sakmyster, Mark Teppo.

Those of you who have read Nukekubi will know why this suits me so well, those of you who haven’t really should it’s a great book. I mean it, really. I can be completely objective. Well I can be objective about the string of glowing reviews the work has received in any case.

If you are attending the World Fantasy Convention I hope to see you there.

H.O. Charles | 9 comments Hello there.

My book, City of Blaze, is completely free (and shall remain so for some time to come).

I'm looking for more reviews on Amazon.com, as people seem to be a little reticent to post much there. As an added incentive, I'm running a competition where anyone who posts an Amazon review of my book can put themselves forward to win a Kindle Fire. Reviews do not have to be positive, just honest!

Details of the competition are here.

Best Wishes,

HOC

Just a note to say that my publisher, Jo Fletcher of Quercus Books, has reduced the price of the kindle of The Snowmelt River to $1.99 for a limited period of 2 weeks, which has proved to be a great help for people who have put it on their "to-read" list. It has proved very popular as a kindle, rising to #8 in the amazon co uk's epic fantasy bestseller list.

Heimdall Thunderhammer | 4 comments Hi all!

I'm seeking readings and reviews for my novel Magefable! It's a 216 page, fully-illustrated, fantasy adventure. It's the first book in an epic series (the second book will be coming out next Spring!)

Durbin has always dreamed of becoming a swashbuckling adventurer like his legendary father. But unfortunately he's stuck in the secluded valley forest of Verdancia, far away from the sway and swagger of the sea. On one fateful evening a mouse named Clove and her spear hog companion Herod stumble into his village. They had escaped from the terrible lion Sinvicious who wants to stop Clove before she can gain the full power of a geomancer--a mage with the ability to control the elements. Fire, water, wind, lightning, all can be controlled by a geomancer. They can fly, turn themselves invisible, make their skin as solid as rock, shift the earth, and even control life... Although all Clove can do at this point is make weeds move.

The next morning when Durbin awakes he finds Clove and Herod gone. Unable to resist the call of adventure, he journeys out into the woods to find them, dragging along his reluctant friend Morro the hedge hog, who would rather be sitting at home eating scones and berries. On their way they meet other new friends such as Reverie, a wounded sparrow who can mesmerize animals with his singing, and Bailey, a courageous and boisterous young squirrel who is hunting for a dragon to tame. But as Durbin and Morro seek Clove and Herod, so does Krochek the Hunter--the most vile, savage rat ever to emerge from Sinvicious's kingdom. Along with his horde of bloodthirsty rodents he will tear the forest apart in his effort to find them.

S.L. Lewis (sllewis) | 5 comments There looks to be an awful lot of good Fantasy being posted on here, going to take note!

My name is Sam (S.L. Lewis) and I am working on my first series of books, the first installment is available now on amazon in both Kindle and Paperback formats! Which I still find an incredible achievement for someone like me. The book is called The Guardian and the Dream Crawler and this is the cover which again I'm very proud of... The Guardian and the Dream Crawler (#1) by S.L. Lewis ...I think I have been very lucky with my designer because she has given me a cover I feel stands out among what is a very competitive market! I can see that just reading through the posts above.

A brief description:

In the magical realm known as Eden, witches and wizards were protected from the demon realms by a powerful wizard known as the Guardian. Like clockwork, Guardians were replaced in every generation until the death of Logan triggered a prophecy the Wizarding Council always feared.

Daniel Smith and his family were then ripped from Eden and sent to live in the human world for their own protection until he came of age. Daniel had grown used to his non-magical life until a new History teacher arrived at Greenfield High revealing his true identity as the next Guardian.

As Daniel’s world begins to unravel around him, he has to deal with hiding his secret from his friends, a school bully wanting to make his life hell and the small matter of a demonic Dream Crawler feasting on his hometown. Welcome to the world of Daniel Smith, the Wizarding Guardian.

I've had some very kind comments so far about the book so yeah, give it a go. It's fun, fast-paced and brings a magically world to the real world, setting up what should be an entertaining series.

Penny Reilly (wwwgoodreadscompennyreilly) | 16 comments Hello ...my name is Penny Reilly I am the new kid on the block in fantasy writing ...my first book was published in July 2012 Silver's Threads Book 1, Spinning Colours Darkly and Book 2, Grey Weavings will be out very soon. I am a self published author with CreateSpace.
When I first began to work with the process of storytelling I was aware of the potency that stories hold in the human psyche.
We are governed by the store of images and symbols that allow us to connect the dots whenever they are triggered.
“Once upon a time” for instance, everyone immediately recognises as a commencement to a story and shifts perhaps, in their mind to a rainy day by the fire with a good tale or a favourite yarn told as a bedtime treat.
Even as adults we have certain fantasy stories that kindle memories or inspiration within …Lord of the Rings…Harry Potter …worlds apart in their time of creation and yet they hold sway in our image bank equally.
My characters wrote themselves with the help of the most predominant voice and images in my head, namely Silver. I call her my true self, my wiser self and it’s through her that these books came about. To wake with a song line ready to write down or a twist in the plot, unfathomable before sleep, is a gift indeed. As a Hedgewitch, a Pagan, I respect the otherworldly influences that can make a somewhat complex process a little simpler.
My aim has been to give readers an opportunity to search their own psyche for the triggers in the books, hidden within the plot and story line …an opportunity to see the planet through different eyes and to hear the cry for help, not from her for she can look after herself but from deep within ourselves.
We do all know that without Her we cannot survive and if we continue on the current path of “having” over being, of consumerism rather than “how much is enough,” …then indeed we may not…
You can find me here at Goodreads and at http://www.amazon.com/author/pennyreilly and on facebook... I look forward to getting to know some of you here...Penny

News of an arranged marriage between his son and the daughter of his lifelong enemy has fueled the temper of Relavia's tyrannical king. What he doesn't realize is the true measure of his son's honor and how far he is willing to go to gain peace."

It is available on Amazon and Smashwords. If you are interested in doing a review of this book, I will happily provide a copy. I also do reviews of my own and have a blog here: www.caledonialass.blogspot.com

Laura Hart (lobopub) | 6 comments Hi fellow fantasy lovers, my name is Laura Hart and I would like to introduce the first two novels in my trilogy, The Ancient Knowledge.

The Toy Sorcerer
The Final Prophecy

Both books are available on Smashwords and Kindle and The Toy Sorcerer is also available in paperback from Amazon.
The Final Prophecy was only released last week and Toy Sorcerer fans are already reading to review.
The trilogy was originally categorised for YA, but valuable feedback from reviewers placed it firmly in adult level reading. The Final Prophecy is very controversial and dares to raise and question taboo subjects. Well, someone has to do it!
Orwell stuck his neck out, as did Voltaire and Socrates before him. And many since . . .
So, if you like your fantasy with more than a smattering of fact to spice it up, these are for you.

Best to all for the festive season.

I have a very short story, around 5000 words, for those who enjoy that kind of thing:

A Petition to Magic
A Petition to Magic by Graham Downs

It's available in Ebook format on Smashwords and Amazon. Here's a brief synopsis:

The last time Solon the wizard performed magic, something terrible happened. He swore he would never cast another spell as long as he lived.

Now, he faces a terrible decision: break his vow, and risk the loss of an innocent life, or do nothing and see a potentially innocent man put to death.

***

Queen Celeste rose to power a month ago, after the sudden death of her mother.

Desperate to prove herself, she agrees to hear the case of a simple farmer who claims a neighbour stole his cow.

***

In an effort to provide food for himself and his family, Marcus now seeks the help of a new queen. Will she help him in his plight?

If this sounds like your cup of tea, please at least consider picking up the 20% sample on the book page here at Goodreads, on Smashwords, on Amazon, or on various torrent sites. :)

The Legend of Finndragon's Curse

I would like to offer my debut novel, THE LEGEND OF FINNDRAGON's CURSE, free to anyone who enjoys a young adult fantasy adventure. You don't have to leave a review, but I would be very grateful if you could.

The book is the first of a two part series, the second of which will be released in March 2013.

For a pdf or mobi file, please email me at richard9860@hotmail.com, putting free book as the subject and state which is your preferred format.

Here is an excerpt of a recent review written by Christy Lynn Allen.

Once in a while you open an adventure book and find yourself fastening your imaginary seatbelt to keep up with the action. The Legend of Finndragon's Curse held several of these moments for me. At times I could almost feel a roller coaster-like tug, thwarting me toward one twisty wild turn after another. Author Richie Earl is a natural storyteller with dazzling ability to paint a scene and create a comprehensive "otherworld." From talking animals, to green-eyed flying demons, and regenerating physical forms, Earl's imaginative world is original and unpredictable. The story begins at the home of the Davies family, where we meet siblings Emma, Megan and Scott, still learning to cope with life without their dad, ever since his sudden disappearance almost a year prior. We learn of the local legend of Finndragon's Curse, a kingdom held hostage under earth by a banished, revenge-seeking wizard. After Emma finds an old photo and ancient scroll hidden in her dad's old backpack, the Davies children embark on a dangerous quest to rescue their dad, convinced he's fallen victim to Finndragon's curse.

S.M. White (smwhite) | 9 comments All right, I guess this is as good a place as any to garner exposure for my fantasy ebook.

The Pale Hand of God is the first book in a high, dark, epic fantasy duology.

The Amazon.com blurb:

"All Ages have a living darkness. In some, it is long buried. In others, it lives and thrives. And then there is the darkness no one sees, the patient darkness that reveals itself only when all light fails."

In an Age of fallen heroes, stolen princesses, and a city prison, the world balances upon the blades of haunted men.

Behind the walls of the clergy-controlled prison city of Iban Su, Lainn Sevai endures. But after losing his father and brother, Lainn finds the determination to seek freedom, following in the footsteps of the man whose iron tutelage molded him into one of the fiercest warriors Iban Su has ever known. In the process he discovers his father's terrible secret, and uncovers the thousand year mystery as to why the prophesied End of Days never came to the world. And in that sets in motion a terrible future.

With all the edge and grit of a Gemmell novel, The Pale Hand of God is the first half of a series that will determine the fate of a world fallen to cowardice and indolence. Heroes will topple, and villains will ascend. Light will fade, and shadows prevail. This is a tale of violence and peace, of love and hatred, and of how one man's fight to save his soul could very well damn all humanity.

Also, I have free fantasy short stories posted on MY WEBSITE

I appreciate all who take an interest.

Grady Owens (baphijmm) | 4 comments Good evening, fellow fantasy authors! My name is Grady, and my book, Journey to Fire's Keep, is the first in a planned six-book series entitled The Return to the Temple. The book is available in paperback, as an ebook from Amazon, or as a PDF. It's something of a Young Adult-style high fantasy, with later segments venturing into the realms of dark fantasy.

Journey to Fire's Keep by Grady L. Owens

In this installment, their hometown razed by a mysterious inferno, a self-doubting young man, Stephen, and his naive, childish half-elf friend Angelo, depart on a quest to find closure by determining the source of the unearthly blaze. Up against a megalomaniacal sorcerer named Asmodeious and his headstrong apprentice Diablo, traveling under the guidance of Stephen's brother John, their exploits draw the ire of the magical organization that seeks to keep the world's forces in balance, a group known as the Revered, through Diablo's own intervention. After meeting an elven wizard, Justin, who insists Stephen is the magical mentor he's been seeking for years, they realize the depth of their quest and begin to have their doubts. In the end, they must face their demons head-on in a world they barely understand, or risk losing everything to their enemies' twisted plot.

I am, of course, presently working on book two in this series, as well as a few other fantasy pieces.

Sam Hammack | 6 comments Hi everyone, my name is Sam Hammack, and my new novel The Witches of Jericho (Edenwitch Book One) has just been released. You can find it on goodreads here -

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...

or amazon here -
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AY7PA2C

The land of Eden is in the midst of drastic change. The witches have been driven to near extinction by greed, steel and a strange new breed of witch killers. The surviving witches and their closest allies have begun a desperate search for answers that may lead them directly into the heart of Eden, possibly even into the Sea of Dreams itself. At the same time, Eden is on the brink of major new discoveries. The explorers have begun the search for a way through the Eastern Edge and into the next world. The new railroad will bring the north and the south together, and will drive commerce toward the greedy and powerful. All the while, the devil tempts Eve with the fruit of knowledge and power as he continues to plot his escape from the Land Beyond Eden.

The Witches of Jericho follows an outcast few, as they begin a journey toward retribution and discovery in a world that is on the eve of an awakening….

This is the first book in the four-part Edenwitch series. The Witches of Jericho introduces several prominent characters, but mainly follows the journey of two young women as they search for answers in a shifting and dangerous landscape.

I would love to gift this to you via amazon, or send you a PDF for you to review. Just email me at sam@edenwitch.com or visit my site for more details.

Thanks a bunch!

Sam

C.P.D. Harris | 4 comments Hi All, some interesting books here.

I am C.P.D Harris, Author of this action-oriented fantasy about magic-wielding Gladiators who fight for freedom and the chance to join the Chosen, the immortal rulers of the greatest empire in the world.

Bloodlust A Gladiator's Tale (Domains of the Chosen, #1) by C.P.D. Harris

The Book is part of a 2 book arc in my Domains of the Chosen series. It is unusual in that each chapter is centered around a match in the main character's career. I'm rather proud of the fact that most readers seem to like my action scenes enough to read through so many.

Neil Benson | 4 comments I recently completed a draft of a novella about a 26-year-old female wizard who works for The Department of Homeland Security fighting terrorists and terrorist wizards. She is partnered with a former Special Forces officer to form a "Ghost Team" because of her ability to create the shield that renders them invisible to the human eye and even radar. my protagonists, Tena, is a kick ass person who has long-standing problems with authority, but avoid trouble because she is the best at what she does.

I am seeking other writers to get a critique on my novella, and I would of course provide a critique of their novella or novel. I am also interested in feedback from readers, particularly those who read fantasy. Please contact me if you're interested.

Rachael (la_primavera_bella) | 10 comments Hi
I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice on specific steps to take or ways to go about marketing a fantasy book. It's somewhat hard pinpointing the right audience for a book.
I have one that I'm working on that's similar in vein to The Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake, at least in setting and class structure/struggle.
There's almost no magic in the story, but it's definitely fantasy in nature. I'm still editing the final parts before publishing. Any advice is welcome!

Hi,
I took a look at your site and I really liked what I found there. Your information is very useful, informative, and responsible for addressing some of the pitfalls authors run into. I don't have a book finished for publishing yet, but I would like to follow your posts and such on Good Reads.
Thanks for creating such good stuff!
