river.。*♡ | 25 comments do you guys usually DNF books ? I almost never do, but lately Ive been rethinking it. If i DNF a book i dont like i will have more time for books i actually enjoy reading. At the same time i dont want all my hard work not paying off to a satisfying finish. Am i alone on this ?

i also find it really difficult to dnf a book. i have read quite a few that only started to improve in the last hundred pages or so, which makes it hard for me to stop too early. there is always that feeling that it might suddenly become worth it if i just keep going.

at the same time, i have also experienced the opposite. sometimes i have continued a book hoping it would get better and it never did. because of that, i usually try to read around half of the book first. if i reach about 50% and i am still really not enjoying it, that is when i consider stopping.

if i feel like the story might appeal to me at another time, i often just put it aside instead of completely abandoning it. sometimes picking it up later, when i am in a different mood, makes a big difference. and occasionally i check reviews online or on tiktok to see whether people say it becomes better later in the book.

so yes, it can definitely be difficult to dnf a book, but finding a balance between giving it a fair chance and protecting your reading time helps. you are definitely not alone in feeling that way 💌.

Tomislav Marinic | 2 comments I almost never DNF books, but did it recently with Red Rising after about 100 pages...
Should I go back to it? Does it get better?
So far it's giving me YA book vibes

Deanna Moon | 2 comments I don't DNF books much either. I'm pretty good at identifying books that I will enjoy. I've heard a lot of good things about this one, but I haven't read it yet, so I can't advise.

Sophia White | 15 comments Normally i don’t dnf books but for the life of me i could not get through powerless

Sarah (in Slump mode) (adayinmymediocrelife) | 72 comments I have no issue dnf-ing a book, especially if it's not holding my interest or if it gives me the ick. Because I would rather spend my time giving another book a chance than forcing myself to do something I dont really want to do (there's enough of that in this world as it is without me doing it to myself). The only time I force myself to complete a book Im not that into is if it's for bookclub or a friend recommendation. Then I will power through so I can have a logical conversation about the book and why I didn't like it. I also take books that I DNF'd to my local bookstore for store credit and buy something else.

Karlapjuske | 52 comments if i really dont like a book im not gonna finish it. the only way in finishing a bad book is if its a buddy read. especially if the time person has given up

.ᐟ appipappi . ݁₊ ⊹ | 9 comments i rarely DNF books, i've dnf(ed) a total of 2 books in my whole life(the story of us & my grandmother asked me to tell you she's sorry). i really couldn't get through them😭

hanny (hannyreads07) | 16 comments I’ve never dnfed a book; I usually force myself to make it to the end. But if I came upon a particularly bad one, I wouldn’t be opposed to dnfing it

It’s also a matter of who the author is because my loyalty to authors will cause me to ignore the fact that the book is lowkey dnfable sometimes lol

message 11: by Mira (new)

Mira Horwitz | 6 comments I do my best not to DNF books, I liked to be an informed hater but it depends on my mood. I really try to push through especially when I'm in a book slump and I try not to think about DNFing until I get past 100 pages of the book. When there's too much gen-z language or if I really can't get into a book I'll DNF.

Ryleigh Hughes (ryleighthebooklover) | 18 comments Do yall ever find it hard to move on from a series when it's so good? I do.

message 13: by Aidyn (new)

Aidyn Abel | 3 comments I don't usually DNF books, but in the case of We Free the Stars, I just got so bored and my new shipment of books had come so I gave up. Otherwise I usually keep reading, sometimes books just have a slow start, give them time, and they might end up being some of your favorites.

I literally came on this thread to mention Powerless. The editing, the characters... the plot! I just couldn't stand it.

message 15: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 1 comments I actually started to DNF quite recently. I finally came to the conclusion that if I don't like something (I always try to read at least 30-40% to give myself a chance to get into the swing of things), there's no point in wasting my time on it when there are so many great books out there. Besides, I know that if I force myself to read something I'm not really interested in, I'll eventually fall into a reading slump and struggle to read anything for the next three months.

message 21: by Anwita (new)

Anwita Verma | 73 comments Are you about 20 percent or more in yet?If not, I think you should read it just a bit more to see if it's truly worth the DNF. Of course, all your choice

Amanda | 28 comments I dnf alllll the time. My attention span is so short im either sucked in or I jump out. But when I buy a physical copy of a book I may make myself finish if im not enjoying it

message 24: by asa 星 (new)

asa 星 (asaheltags) | 106 comments i DNF cuz i don't like wasting my time on something not worthwhile🤷‍♀️ if i start to dislike a book, i immediately drop it. because why would i spend my time and energy on something i don't even like? i also dnf physical books (not just ebooks). idc if it is a waste of money. Time is more essential to me🙂‍↕️

message 25: by Clarisse (new)
