NPR's "The Decade's 50 Most Important Recordings" list

And, I'm not as out of it as I feared. I like Beyonce, Green Day, Norah Jones, etc.

And some of these records I like a lot so I'm glad they were included...the Wilco, Sigur Ros, Flaming Lips...and even if I don't like the Arcade Fire or The Strokes I can understand why they're included.
You know, I can understand why there's antipathy towards Britney Spears' In The Zone album on this list, but keep in mind this is a list of the most important albums, not the best. I will go on record saying that's actually a pretty good record, considering how mediocre Britney is as a singer and an overall talent. It's a rare triumph of substance over style, and I dare you not to hum Toxic. Go on. Dare ya!
Some albums I think are sorely missing on this list:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell
Neko Case - Middle Cyclone; the fact that it was released in March 2009 shouldn't exclude this outstanding album from this list.
Bjork - Vespertine

Metal's been pretty low on the radar this decade, it seems. Not that there hasn't been some very good metal - Mastodon included - but it hasn't enjoyed the mainstream success it once did.

The AVClub also did a Best Metal list, David.
