It was exciting, raw at times, and downright gutsy. The life in Alexander's army is extremely detailed,(and no picnic by the way). But Pressfield offers no documentation. There is not a foreward at the begining or a paragraph at the end explaining what is conjecture or what is not. No footnoting and no bibliography are provided. Was a diary written by one of Alexander's soldiers found that explains army life in such detail? I am just curious.
Still, I have read The Legend of Bagger Vance and Fire at the Gates. This was probably the best written. His style in this book seemed more, direct, than the others.
