L.M. David | 13 comments I am a new author, and I've read the rules yet, as Kenya said, there are self-promoters here. Would it be selfish of me to defy the rules as well and post my book here,

Shireen Nemnich (snemnich) | 19 comments Have you ever heard two wrongs don't make it right? haha J/K I'm not a moderator. But being that said, I'm an author and I followed the rules. Why not follow the rule? Why break them?

Jai | 81 comments What about tattling on the rule breakers? There's some touting of personal books that's really getting on my nerves in a few of the forums.

T.M. Waltman (tmwaltman) | 5 comments Does anyone know who I could get as a beta reader for my paranormal novel? I am knew here to Goodreads as far as a author. But I have had an account for awhile now. Would like to be more involved with the community.

Teresa, I noticed that some authors started a thread in the Self-Promotion folder. See http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...

Also, I know that there are several GR groups primarily for beta/ARC reviews. I don't know enough about them to give any opinions re: one group over another but here are search results just using "reviewer": http://www.goodreads.com/group/search...

Good luck!

message 63: by Joe (new)

Joe Tuffy I get a rather large kick out of all those so opposed to self-promotion. I think they should be flogged! It's like an "I dare you to" test. Here we are, most of us authors, and you can't mention your own works. So, if someone on this thread asks about a specific type of new book they'd enjoy reading, and it fits your own book's description, you should not mention it or your self-promoting? So, let's give this a shot - I've written (blank) numbers of books. My latest release is called (blank) and it's about (blank). It can be purchased at, you guessed it, (blank).
Sorry about self-promoting my (blank) books.
Tuffy

Hi.
First off I love this group. I only joined recently and you reached out and sucked my right in. Thank you. I'm usually a lurker, but I find myself posting more and more.I posted about my new book in your promotion folder - Thank you. My question is, If someone asks for a book about witches, am I free to reply and tell them about mine. The last thing I want is to offend people who have made me feel so welcome.

message 75: by Donna (new)

Donna Cooper (donnajunecooper) | 4 comments Okay! New member and fairly new author here trying to navigate the group. I note that self-promotion is only allowed if (1) you participate elsewhere in the group and (2) you do it in the appropriate "Self Promotions" folder. But I have noticed, in exploring, that there are "Reviewers Requested" or "Reviews Requested" posts in other folders. Is requesting reviews considered self-promotion? Also, as I understand other questions below, it is all right to respond if someone says something like "I'm looking for a PNR with a healing psychic" or "I'm looking for a PNR with a beta hero" and your book is a match, correct? Thanks for the clear instructions!

message 77: by Aimee (new)

Aimee Scott | 3 comments Hi everyone :) I'm Aimee and I am a paranormal fantasy writer from the UK. The first book in my fantasy series 'Eva's Ascension' is currently only 0.99 as an introductory offer that will end at the beginning of October. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MMXW1FK . The Ascension series features vampires, demons and angels and is set in a parallel world.

I love fantasy novels and my favorite writers of the moment are Karen chance and laurell k hamilton. Although Cassie palmer definitely tops Anita blake as a heroine in my opinion :)

I am new to Goodreads and am looking for friends with similar tastes in books so please feel free to add me. Much <3

message 78: by Brantwijn (new)

Brantwijn Serrah I am an author, but if I want to share a short free read or "talking shop" post on my blog (not a book sample, a full short story independent of my published works or an article on books and writing), does that fall under these rules as well? I'm curious whether it falls under the "self-promotion" category or the "participation" category.

Also (and I may have missed this information elsewhere), what are the policies on posting links to an 18+ blog? I am an erotic romance author, so my free reads are NC17 and I also post erotic photography from time to time. As a rule I include the "18+ only" warning with any links. But I know and want to respect when groups do not want any direct links to adult material at all.

I'm happy to comply with whatever answer, dear mods. ;) I just want to be sure I don't unintentionally break the rules.

Last spring I published a YA novel, Remains, and was wondering ifanyone would be interested in reviewing it. The sequel came out in October. Below is a brief summary.

"WHAT KIND OF MONSTER ARE YOU?"
Most believe supernatural beings to only exist in fairy tales. For Victoria Wesley, a hot-headed teenage witch with a chip on her shoulder, the supernatural world is all too real.
Four years ago her parents were slaughtered for inexplicable reasons. As the sole survivor of her family, Victoria sets out to bring their killers to justice. In her determination to find out who was responsible she meets a group of young witches and a mysterious vampire named Adrien who make her question everything she thought she knew.
The world of the supernatural is far more complicated and dangerous than she ever realized. When ulterior motives are revealed knowing who to trust proves to be the hardest decision she’s ever made. When the lines between right and wrong are blurred Victoria has to figure out how far you can go before you become one of the bad guys.
Will Victoria be able to get what she wants without losing sight of who she is? Will she make it out of this alive? Remains

Stephen Chu (stephen_chu) | 1 comments My debut series is recently published First Conquest. Ever imagine a smut erotic story where hunk and manly straight superheroes are brainwashed and turned into evil and gay in a complete helpless condition? Then you're at the right place.

This series is a combination of gay, superhero, erotica, and alien theme, with additional touch of brainwash and mindwipe kinks. Oh, and because I really love man's body, there are many smut scenes about muscle, chest, pecs, and nipple. There are some action scenes and gay romance that complete the whole story as superhero book.

The kindle ebook is only $2.99 now
Here is the link on Amazon! getbook.at/firstconquest

S.S. Jung (ssjung) | 4 comments Hi,
I just published my first novel 'Proximity Factor' under S S Jung.
It is on Amazon Kindle, SmashWords, etc. I published through Draft2Digital and they published on all the book sites. Some categories I picked some were chosen for me.
Looking for any comments as I am in review gathering mode!

I particularly like how different sites chose different categories for my book. I think Amazon is most accurate with

SmashWords:
Fiction » Adventure
Fiction » Mystery & detective » Women Sleuths
Fiction » Fantasy » Paranormal
Fiction » Science fiction » General
Fiction » Thriller & suspense » Supernatural
https://www.smashwords.com/books/view...

Want to review a exciting book, that is very topical to today's events.send me an email at proximityfactor@gmail.com or go to any of these sites. Thanks everybody!

message 90: by Arielle (new)

Arielle Miller | 10 comments Hello! My newest memoir is not a paranormal romance, but if it's alright I'd like to tell you about it anyway...

"It’s hard enough to pick up the pieces after a terrible divorce and ‘get back out there’ to start dating again in your forties; it’s nearly impossible in the city of Los Angeles, where youth, beauty, and celebrity reign supreme. However, if you can forget the expectations you had for your life and tune out the expectations everyone else has for you… dating can be entertaining, hilarious, and even fun!

At least, that was Arielle's experience as she navigated the bizarre and surreal modern dating world, sampling everything on threesomes, celebrities, one-night stands, BDSM, erotic photography and sex with much younger men (and women). All the while upholding her pristine image as a traditional PTA mom, and inwardly rebuilding her self-esteem and self-worth, and stalwartly hiding her secret life from her three young children.

F*ck A Memoir depicts the journey of a single mother from broken and hopeless, to fierce and passionate. Honest, raw and no-holds-barred, this tell-all memoir graphically details the foibles, humiliations, triumphs, unlikely encounters, oddball characters, great love and even greater sex experienced along the way."

It's a 100% true, super fun, quick read ... hope you'll check it out!!
