Donnajo Kelly, I believe so. I get a newsletter from them and also try and pick up the newspapers someplace. You can subscribe but then you have to pay. There should be a location someplace on the site where you can get their newspapers in your area or at least they used to have it.

Kelly Thanks Donnajo, I just typed in my zip code and none of my local bookstores or my library carries it, darn. I'll just keep an eye on the website every month.

It is the same. Click on "print edition" to see a lot of what's in the paper. My library's Friends group subscribes so that our library has 100 each month that can be picked up. They just put them on a side table for anyone to get.

message 104: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I subscribe to Bookmarks Magazine too. They have good reviews - They're also online at www.bookmarksmagazine.com and they have a goodreads page.

Kelly Thanks Lynn!

Afsana (afsanaz) WIll have to check it ou-think its an american thing and we do not have it in the uk

message 107: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo And check around area libraries other than your town. I finally found other ones that aren't listed on their website. If you have a county library close by they usually have them. I'm picked them up there once at the shore when I went to a book sale. I haven't been able to get up to the library for December's copy so will have to forget that one. Usually they come out the last week in the month for the coming month.

message 108: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Ohh okay, I'll be sure to ask my library then, even though they aren't listed on the website as carrying it. Thanks Donnajo!

message 109: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I'm been taking my copy into my library and giving it to someone there or I got an extra copy once or twice and just gave it to them. They said they past it on but heard nothing yet if they would get it. Good luck with the hunt. When I first started seeing it I got it from a indie store and she has since closed she had given me the phone number etc to call them and was told that I was better off checking to get it free before paying for it.

They do ship it to Canada and internationally also, though, if you are interested. I love getting my issue, but you can look a lot of stuff up on their website too even without a subscription.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Since we had the conversation about the random book I got, I thought I'd let you know what it is. The book is The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. I'll let you all know when I read it in January.

message 113: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) Jim that sounds like an interesting book. I look forward to hearing what you think.

message 114: by Kelly (new)

Kelly That one does sound good Jim!! I'll be interested to see what you think as well.

I've heard really really good things about that book. It's been in my TBR pile for a while. You should let us know how you find it!

message 116: by Rayni (new)

Rayni | 135 comments I went to Amazon after we'd had the conversation & saw the Elegance of the Hedgehog & wondered it that was it. Thx for letting us know. Now, I can't wait for your review.

Afsana (afsanaz) below was a post I read on another thread for best books read in 2009 and thought you would be interested due to above

" Now that 2009 is winding down, I am wondering what everyone's favorite reads were for the year.

My favorites were all surprises to me this year - The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Madame Bovary,
The Elegance of the Hedgehog. It was a great reading year for me "

message 118: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I don't have a problem finding books to read. I read several authors that have series books, and several that aren't series but that I know I'll like. And I read book reviews in magazines and online (Entertainment Weekly has great reviews). I am a sucker for mysteries of all kinds. If I see the word mystery in a review or on a book jacket, it almost always goes on my TBR list, and I've rarely been disappointed!

message 119: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I haven't read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society but I think I have it someplace tbr around here. So tomorrow I'm going to look though the mountains of books. I think it's in one of the bags still.

message 120: by Morgan (new)

Morgan F (awesomeness1) I look on many "Best of" lists on Goodreads and other sites. Whenever I go to the library or bookstore, I look at what they just got in and see if it looks interesting.

Donnajo, I procrastinated about reading this and when i was finished I wondered why. It is on my top 10 favorites that I read in 2009.

message 122: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I was going though my unread books from my Determination list for 2009 to see which ones I'll take off or not read for 2010 and if I find the book I'm going to add it to that list. I've had so many recommendations for that book.

message 123: by Susan (new)

Susan (superbookfreak) | 115 comments I also like to talk to the librarian and see what books they suggest, sometimes I get good ones from them. I also like to look on gr and others book lists to see what sounds good.

Dessa, all libraries make exceptions for that kind of thing. Fires, car accidents, ect. You need to go in an talk to a supervisor or a library you know and work with them. They can at least reduce it ...they have insurance for those kinds of things.

Though they had charged her for book and fines a year or so before fire so that may no longer count

message 126: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Recommendations from friends with similar tastes, walking around the bookstore, sometimes at Walmart too. I get recommendations from Amazon.com and .ca as well. Sometimes I'll browse around on fantasticfiction.co.uk via genres and then check out reviews.
