Sarah | 13814 comments The long list was just published of animated movies in Oscar contention -- a record 20 choices, to be reduced to a maximum of five.

Which of these would you put in the running for the Oscar? And which would you like to win?
I'd guess the five nominees will be
9
Coraline
Fantastic Mr. Fox
Ponyo
Up

I still haven't seen Ponyo, and Fantastic Mr. Fox isn't out yet. I'd love to see Coraline win, but I thought Up was pretty cool.

-----
"Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel"

"Astro Boy"

"Battle for Terra"

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"

"Coraline"

"Disney's A Christmas Carol"

"The Dolphin - Story of a Dreamer"

"Fantastic Mr. Fox"

"Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs"

"Mary and Max"

"The Missing Lynx"

"Monsters vs. Aliens"

"9"

"Planet 51"

"Ponyo"

"The Princess and the Frog"

"The Secret of Kells"

"Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure"

"A Town Called Panic"

"Up"

David (bowsertheturtle) i havent seen any of these =\ =( i guess it has been a while since ive watched a new animated movie.. hmm what was the last movie ive seen.. heh it mightve been bruno.. i forget.. its even harder to remember the last new animated one ive seen..

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I've heard Disney's A Christmas Carol is pretty amazing, or pretty awful, depending on which reviewer you read.
I still need to see Ponyo, too, but I know they still do the old-fashioned hand drawn animation at Studio Ghibli, which is cool.
But Coraline was incredible. As good as Pixar always is, and as much as I enjoyed Up, I think Coraline was cooler.

Sarah | 13814 comments I agree - I loved both, but I loved Coraline more. I think Fantastic Mr. Fox has a shot if it's any good- the technique looks interesting.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I heard "Up" was pretty good...might watch it this weekend...I've borrowed a copy of Coraline from the library about ten times and never watched.

The only one I've seen is Up. May have to give Coraline a look since it seems to be getting some good reviews here.

smetchie | 4034 comments I really liked Monsters vs. Aliens.

I mostly dislike Jim Carey.

Her Majesty (hermajesty) | 122 comments It'll prbably go to "Up"
anyone thought it was depressing?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Up had some parts that made me cry like crazy, but I didn't find it depressing, Her.
I cry easily, anyways.

Sarah | 13814 comments I cried in the first ten minutes of Up, but I didn't find it depressing.

Her Majesty (hermajesty) | 122 comments My Up experience was kinda depressing. probably because of these first ten minutes. I'd hate to admit it, but I cried too.

Rachel | 1106 comments Why was UP Depressing? I've heard so many people say this! It was one of the best animated movies ever! Next to Coraline of course.
