You are fine Trisha and I really appreciate you posting this.
I did get over 30 Direct Messages now, I cannot reply to those.
If you have questions about what is taking place. I will try to reply as with what I know.
Thank you again Trisha :)

Goodness! What a mess GR has become. We had such a perfect peaceful time before. Thanks, Trisha. I saw the message just now. I'm having a bit of an emotional exhaustion and was limited checking GR for past two days. And look what I returned to! I don't understand what they're trying to gain by creating this mess. 😕
Goodreads does not have their own Data Center/Technicians any longer since Amazon took over. They are a dual team of around 150 Techs Amazon probably is the priority. They do not have specialist taking care of Goodreads issues in the Tech field.
The scammers and spam was out of control for them and the only option they have is flipping a switch to off.
You have to remember too. Amazon does not really care about the Social aspect of Goodreads. They just want sells of books that lead you to the Amazon site to purchase even more for convenience sake.
The rarely reverse their decisions.

This a real shame for those of the group, especially the moderators, who need to coordinate threads and discussions much more closely than the occasional writer-in like myself.
It's so true what you say, Lesle, that Amazon is only interested in the commercial aspect of GR.
I do hope that Amazon reverses this decision soon.

I agree with you. A lot of scammers and spam swamped this site. And I'm worried about that.
I understand. Only I wish there was another way our rather than removing DM. But if GR doesn't have a on call tech team of their own, then I guess they have no option. I agree with Luis; too many scammers are on GR now. And I heard, some even hack old dormant accounts and steel their identity!

I’m sad that this is affecting everyone, especially those who already give a lot of their time to make Goodreads effective for us. Without messaging, our interactions will be limited & slower. But perhaps we will gradually find some advantages in the new systemThe important thing, in my opinion, is to remember that the situation is not our fault, it’s out of our control. So no one should feel guilty or worry about not responding quickly. This is a supportive group & we will adapt together.

Thank you so much Trisha. Very well expressed your whole comment.
Much appreciate the positive.

It's a good thought but we had already discussed this in the group, when we found out that the messaging would be gone back in December and the majority would like to stay here.
Most of us had exchanged emails before this started.
We talked about several options actually. Discord, a Connected Facebook Page and LibraryThing.
I think for now we will just work around the issue.
I also think we have a good plan in place.

I'm looking at Storygraph now. It's a like a lot of modern websites in that I just can't find anything. I think it's the whole thing of it being designed for cell phones, not computers.
Where is my list of all the books I've read over 20+ years? Where are the categories of books? I see I can scroll back through my Reading Journal chronologically but it I want to look at what I ready in 2007? If I want to look at all the fantasy I've read?
I click on Book Clubs and it tells me "You're not part of any book clubs yet!" That's the point! I want to find some! It merely gives me the option to "Create New".
Very annoying.

“Unfortunately the wave of deleting our Direct Message "Reply" buttons has started.
Yesterday was the first and it was me and now more are finding theirs is gone as well.
Right now I cannot post a new comment in the Group without the lovely Pink Box Error.
Only thing I have found that works is I can edit a prior message.
Rosemarie, Piyangie, Book Nerd and our daily Members, if someone can open a thread under the General Folder let them know my functions are very limited. I know I do not need to worry but I will anyways.
Members need this thread to use to talk about what is happening.
Some will still have their "Reply" buttons for a while with the Direct Messages but they will be removing those in waves. It actually started yesterday and more in the Moderator Support Group are saying it is happening to them now.
I cannot post right now. I am hoping this works.
Making a comment I get the lovely Pink Error Box. I am signing out tonight. I will log back in tomorrow. I will email a couple of you in the morning if I cannot function still.
I would greatly appreciate if everyone can help answer any questions that arises. I know that many do not look at these Broadcast as often as checking in with the group.”
(Moderators - I’m happy for you to remove or replace this thread. I probably saw Lesle’s message before you due to our time zones.)
