Any books that take place somewhere else aka for the second part of the task, that are not sci-fi?

One of the Meg Cabot Princess Diaries books, but it would have to be one that takes place mostly, if not all, in Genovia (made up country).
Or if you YA is not your thing, what about:
Snow Falling on Cedars. The island setting is all made up. I read this one in college for a course and that was something that we discussed. I've also read it two other times. Very good book.
Bridgit wrote: "I am reading Kate Mosse's Labyrinth - the main character is Alice. I am only about 200 pages in, but it is really good so far...."I read this in 2007 and enjoyed it. Haven't picked up the 2nd in the series, but should. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
So I was looking at the new Kate Mosse again and I now think it is not a sequel. It was described as being the same type of book. The cover was similar to that of The Labyrinth, which is why I thought maybe it was a sequel. It still sounds good, though! I was tempted to go to B&N today to get it.
can I read a book about a group of children and one of them is named Alice... I don't think there is a featured character for this story since the book is about the group

I was wondering if anyone had Gossamer by Lois Lowery and could tell me if it takes place in a fantasy place (so I can use it for part b of this challenge) If it doesn't please let me know so I can change my book for this challenge.
Just finished reading Vodka, by Boris Starling for another task, and one of the main characters is called Alice Liddell....who is married to a Lewis...
Amanda wrote: "I was wondering if anyone had Gossamer by Lois Lowery and could tell me if it takes place in a fantasy place (so I can use it for part b of this challenge) If it doesn't please let me know so I can..."I've read it and I think it would work. I don't remember if it actually states a specific place, but it's definitely fantasy and "humans" are referred to as if they're a different species.
Sarah wrote: "Would Lord of the Flies work for the second part of this challenge?"I'll take it since it never identifies the island by name - although why anyone would want to read that book is beyond me (it's the most over-rated book ever written in my book - I hated it in high school) but to each his own I always say.
Would Gifts work for the second part? I'm not too sure if the "Uplands" mentioned in the description is a country...
Somewhere I picked up the idea that I could use Disney After Dark by Ridley Pearson for the 2nd part of this task. So I got it from the library. But after reading the back, I wanted to double-check! It appears that part takes place at Disney World and part in some alternate reality DW?!?Anyway, let me know. Thanks!
Cynthia, I was wondering if I could use My Soul to Save by Rachel Vincent for the "made up world" for this task.Let me see if I can explain this right...basically, there is this kind of alternative shadow world that is like a demon version where hellions and fiends live that mirrors our world. It is a real place that the characters do travel to throughout the novel. The world is called Netherworld.
Let me know if this would be acceptable, or if I need to try to explain it more. Thanks!
