Cheryl wrote: "Can I read a nonfiction book about the Harlem Renaissance for 10.3 or does it have to be about a person form that period?"Yes for that task it can be an account of the time period or about a person from that period.
Cheryl wrote: "Can I use Fairy Haven and the Quest for the Wand for 15.2 since they live somewhere called Never Land???"

If one book can fit in two different tasks, can we do that? For example, "The Princess Bride is a group read and it is a romance so can we use the same book for two different tasks?

I have so many questions!!! Yet not a lot of people seem to visit this thread. For the best gift we have received does it have to be material?

Question about the literary book prize task: the Jerusalem Book Award goes to an author, not a specific book and Murakami won it in 2009, can I read one of his books?
Leora wrote: "Question about the literary book prize task: the Jerusalem Book Award goes to an author, not a specific book and Murakami won it in 2009, can I read one of his books?"You would need to read one that he wrote between 2000-2009
For task 15.2 - Would The Subtle Knife work? I haven't read the last two books of this series yet, but it sounds like she travels to fictional lands. Thanks!
Kathryn wrote: "For task 15.2 - Would The Subtle Knife work? I haven't read the last two books of this series yet, but it sounds like she travels to fictional lands. Thanks!"Yes
If I read more than one of the Group Reads, do I get points for each one, or can I only complete the Group Reads task once?
Ellen wrote: "If I read more than one of the Group Reads, do I get points for each one, or can I only complete the Group Reads task once?"You only get points for one for that task but you could use the other books for other tasks.
Kathryn wrote: "For task 15.2 - Would The Subtle Knife work? I haven't read the last two books of this series yet, but it sounds like she travels to fictional lands. Thanks The Subtle Knife is set in an imaginary United States (sort of like the Orson Scott Card Alvin books.)
This is my first challenge and I see a lot of posts asking about books, do we need to have them approved before we read them, or just if we are unsure if a fit is good? Would it be beneficial to ask about them all for the first season? And can we decide on 1 task at a time, or decide for the season? Can we skip around? I have been busy making lists as I find titles I think will work but do not want to go any further till I am sure! Thanks!!!!!
Barbara wrote: "This is my first challenge and I see a lot of posts asking about books, do we need to have them approved before we read them, or just if we are unsure if a fit is good? You can skip around - tasks don't have to be completed in sequential order.
For 5.10 (Alliteration): Can I use Faith of the Fallen? There are two words between the Faith and Fallen but neither are capitalized so I'm hoping it will count.
Dee wrote: "For 5.10 (Alliteration): Can I use Faith of the Fallen? There are two words between the Faith and Fallen but neither are capitalized so I'm hoping it will count."Sorry it can only be one word in between.
My favorite Disney movies are Toy Story, The Incredibles and National Treasure. Does anyone have any ideas of books relating to these movies? Would The Lost Symbol work for National Treasure?
Sandra wrote: "My favorite Disney movies are Toy Story, The Incredibles and National Treasure. Does anyone have any ideas of books relating to these movies? Would The Lost Symbol work for Nati..."
TOY STORY
Toy Guns Stories
The Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse
PopCo
THE INCREDIBLES
Jinx
But The Lost Symbol would be ok.
Would the following books be considered "cozy mysteries"? I'm not an avid reader of this category and was thinking I'd try to use books I own if possible. Thanks.Too Close for Comfort

No on both of those.
Bummer. Oh well. Thanks for confirming. Can anyone recommend a must-read Agatha Christie which fits the "cozy mystery" description? It's about time I check her out. Thanks.

Hi Patricia,
Try this site-- www.cozy-mystery.com/ be sure to read the section "What is a cozy?" which will give you a good idea of what to look along with some suggestions. Hope this helps!

Thanks for this link, it was wonderful. Just the kind of thing I have been looking for, I am so glad that my favorites (McCall-Smith, Leon, Mott Davidson & Sanders) have their own mini-genre!
Thanks Cynthia-I have had Kafka on the Shore in my TBR pile for quite awhile now, very excited to read it. (It was published in 2006).
I had a quick question about the additional task (the 7 new 20 pointers). Are those going to be included in the Winter challenge or will they be new for the spring one? Just trying to make a spreadsheet and trying to figure out whether or not to include them. Thanks!!!
Kathryn wrote: "I had a quick question about the additional task (the 7 new 20 pointers). Are those going to be included in the Winter challenge or will they be new for the spring one? Just trying to make a spread..."They won't debut until the spring challenge - participation during winter will determine them.
Cynthia wrote: "Kathryn wrote: "I had a quick question about the additional task (the 7 new 20 pointers). Are those going to be included in the Winter challenge or will they be new for the spring one? Just trying ..."Okay, that makes sense! I wasn't sure. Thanks!!!
Cheryl wrote: "How do we post completed tasks??"There is a thread for completed tasks entitled WINTER CHALLENGE 2009-2010 COMPLETED TASKS - when you finish a task you post the information there and then I update the readerboard.
Cheryl wrote: "For task 30.5 will The last Lecture by Randy Paust work for a book published after his death??" He died in July 2008 but the book came out in April so no.
Somewhere on here for helps, I saw a link to a spreadsheet that someone has for links for each of the tasks but I can't find it anymore. Can someone give me that link again??? Thanks!

I've been updating it as I catch Cynthia's Task Updates. And a couple I've been adding links I find outside the threads.
For the first task, I am going with Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Now, would the book The Kingdom Keepers work since Maleficent is the one causing trouble/evil in both?"Finn Whitman, an Orlando teen, is hired to be hologramed as a Disney World park "guide" but soon finds himself being transported into the Magic Kingdom in the dead of night to help fight a group of Disney villains, led by Maleficent, who want to take over Disney World--and maybe more."
Thanks!

A protagonist in this case is just the main character. So any book where the main character is African American would work.
