Deb's Daze(d and Confused)
No!!!! It was an abbreviation for Word Associations! And there is only one synonym for curmudgeon...it is teacher!
Eliza, are you a teacher? Your profile is so rich in detail that I didn't know. I'm also jealous that you have fewer friends than I do.
In fact, it's incredible that I have a dozen. In real life, I have none -- unless you count the Good Wyfe, but she has no choice (due to the contract).
Signed,

ahh amalgamated international curs
sort of like ugly americans?
no alas, not a teacher
but a pusher of files
alphabetical
chronological
stuffed in drawers, neatly labeled
or stacked in piles ever increasing
almost reaching
their former treed heights
but...not....quite
Ugly American? It's an oxymoron, right (looking in the mirror)? Actually, I'm a lousy American. My parents, relatives, etc., often remind me, esp. when I make the mistake of offering an opinion on politics. (Apparently I'm a "liberal" like the "media," and sometimes a "Socialist" and even once a "Communist").
The Office, eh? TV show, no? My daughter loves some such show. She's always wanting me to "try" to watch an episode of this or that rage of hers (she buys entire-season DVD's of television shows, a habit I can only call foolhardiness).
Anyway, teachers do a number on trees, too. That and copyright laws... (ah, the dreaded copying machine lines!).
P.S. Do you hail from a country exotic? To me, any country outside of New Jersey is considered "exotic."

Spring is sprung (so has one of my drains)
The grass has riz (so have the weeds)
I wonder where dem boidies is (I think my cat ate them)
....actually I am not as grumpy as I sound....the weather is much better, the plumber fixed the drain today and the birds are positively cacophanous in the mornings ....who needs an alarm clock!
AND....best of all.....4 days til the end of term!!!!! Then 2 weeks of serious sleep-ins, reading and self-pampering.

hmmm ... I think I could go for that! It's not much longer than the 38 weeks we're in school here in Texas.
A whole lot of nothing!! Well, a bit of spring cleaning, try to find the Prof and the madman to read, have some friends over for dinner, attend a Vice-regal reception at Govt House (another bloody one) and prep for next term :-/
I LOVE the holidays!!! I have time to cook properly (no frozen dinners this week)!! Tonight I stir-fried a few scallops with vegetables, honey, ginger and a few udon noodles....magic!!
And I have been reading....2 books on the go. Finding the group read one a little ponderous....hard to pick up after leaving it for a day...have to flip back a couple of pages to recall the thread. It tends to hop about a bit....I assume it will improve once the two protagonists (!) begin 'the work'! The other book is easier to dip in and out of...."Choice Cuts" quite interesting and entertaining.
Ooh yes....the weather is lovely too :-D

.....and last night I had some friends over for dinner....haven't done that for a loooong time! It was great! My sister (opera singer and part-time music teacher) and her latest (plays French horn and conducts brass band in his spare time), Barry (guitar) and his wife Jo (sings), and Fiona (guitar, saxophone)........the jamming must have been Ok because there were no visits from noise control!!! Music fuelled by wine and (if I say so myself) good food.....can't beat it!
absolutelythanks for sharing with us
it sounds like a wonderful evening
we don't do that sort of thing nearly enough
or at least i don't and that's what life is really about
You bet....as I said, ages since I did anything like that. Wish you both could have made it too!
Ah, well. Time off (like life) is but a fleeting thing. I've enjoyed a 4-day Columbus weekend, but the past two days (vacay days) have been sidelined with a sinus cold, aches, pains, fatigue, etc. Isn't it always the way?
So if you had good health and a good time on your goodly days off, thank the Lord (or Whomever you give a nod to these days). Oh. And say hi to the kiddies.

It was all good! My worst offender has moved to Hamilton, my 2nd and 4th worst are at health camp for another 4 weeks. It is like a different class. I am reading them The Hobbit. I am happy.
Some people find him a bad hobbit. I've rid myself of most of mine, but keep a few for old time's sake. Let no man (or woman) be without at least ONE bad Hobbit, I always say (well, not always, but...).
No! Smoking was my only vice (smirk). I stopped almost 2 years ago after 30 years of it....and nothing could have been easier because I used a BOOK!!!! (They mess with your mind you know!). I had stopped while I had my kids (for 3 years) but that was much more difficult. I haven't even missed it this time....I figure it's because I was born a non-smoker :-)
Good one. We're all born non-something or other. Most of our vices come with good teachers (but not the kind in school)...
I try to avoid them moe! ;->
I have FINALLY finished reading The Surgeon of Crowthorne (aka The Professor and the Madman). It grew on me after a while but it did require perseverence through the first few chapters....looking forward to the discussion.

Really 12 yeses. I'm on the sidelines listening (but not reading along). Also, saying "yes" is easy. Actually reading and then showing up, quite another thing.
Geez, I'm a barrel of BunWat sunshine, aren't I?
Geez, I'm a barrel of BunWat sunshine, aren't I?
No, I'm fine. Honest. Just too busy to read a book like that at a juncture like this with a crush of papers to read for school and a project of rewriting my novella. Plus there's that dues-paying curmudgeon thing. And let's not forget the Cynics Club. Vice-President there, too.
(How'm I doing? I'm trying to be humerus, as opposed to some bone-headed fibula.)

I think you have milked this for all it has got!
Interesting etymology Bunny....so how did the word 'cur' become an insult? I suppose it was enough to call someone a dog, even if it was a good one. Curmudgeon....have we looked at that one yet? I am going to look-see!
And NE...2 new pics in a week!!! You going through a mid-life crisis?

No. I'm planning my mid-life crisis carefully. I already told the Good Wyfe it's going to be costly (just warming her up).
I see "cur" a lot in 19th century writing. It doesn't have the same punch for me that it must have had for them then.Okay, I'm finally figuring this out. I kept trying to work out which actress's photo Debbie had thrown into her profile.
Oh cut it out ....you'll make me blush!! It is me Tyler....amazing eh! A YOUNG Shirley Booth NE!! You are TOO kind....this middle-aged old harridan is actually smiling inside!!
School camp in 2 days.....yay (feeble cheer...). Going here...http://images.google.co.nz/images?hl=... 35 10 and 11 year olds. We will stay in cabins and spend our days beachcombing.....aaaah :-)
ohhh debbie it looks lovelyhow many adults with that horde of children?
at least they are 10 & 11 rather than teens
i quite liked that middle school aged group
still children but can manage themselves quite well and say the darndest things
Yep! Four days at the beach Richard. Three teachers, 2 teacher aides, 2 parents overnighting, with the addition of 2 more parents who are travelling out daily. I really enjoy it...taking my double-12 dominoes and gonna teach them Mexican Trains!!
Here it's the 6th graders who go -- to "Nature's Classroom," where they get "hands-on" science lessons in the woods of Charlton. I'm scheduled to go for a brace of days in April.
