Homecoming. Prodigal sons. You can't... maybe can... go home again. Look homeward, angel. And so on.

Enjoy the day (days? weeks? months?).

It's gorgeous!
I must be stupid...I can't make it work :-( I am getting me to a nunnery (see profile pic).

Debbie, I had the hardest time getting the spacing right for including a link in a post-- Symbol helped me out. Not being able to do html does not make one stupid-- just requires more practice and patience for folks (!) like us :)

Nice wimple! Did you enjoy the cast party?

Hell hath no torture like Abba music, world without end, amen (and women). Nun of that, sister!

Tyler (tyler-d) | 268 comments Why did you change you picture, Debbie?

Also, did someone mention Abba, the greatest musicians ever? Why, one can never hear enough of their music.

message 114: by [deleted user] (last edited May 25, 2008 12:31PM) (new)

Tell me ABBA-out it! I've got the urge to dance right now ... perhaps a little Fernando or Dancing Queen?

That didn't turn out as well as I hoped ...

I changed my pic Relyt, so that you could all have a good giggle at my unusual habit!! Don't worry...I'll be back to my unholy old self soon!

Relyt, just as I hope you'll forgive my weaknesses (Cheez-Its, mincemeat pie, and Hemingway novels), I'll forgive a few of yours. Consider ABBA four of your allowed five passes, then.

"Waterloo, couldn't stand listenin' if I wanted to..."

In the words of the prophet: If I want one gift from Sweden, it'll be a masseuse named Ingrid, not a palindromic musical accident named ABBA...

Changing pic back now....resulted in a rash of friends requests, including one from a "Blessed Virgin Mary" obsessive and a 12 year old born-again christian who loves horses. I ignored the former and let the latter down gently.......

Ken | 18714 comments Mod
Relyt, are you sure that ABBA feels that way when they're "loose"? (Ugly picture comes to mind -- I mean I know those Swedes walk around nude a lot, but really.)

Debbie, I have used the old question strategy to solve the friending trouble here at Goodreads. You can find the feature on your profile page, I believe. In it, you play the Sphinx who poses a question, and if the erstwhile born-again friendster cannot answer it, he or she cannot even send a request.

What I REALLY like is, even if they answer the question, you can still refuse them if you haven't a clue who they are. I say yes to any and all who I know and have interacted with on these boards, but other than that, call me Dr. No.

So what's a good question for you?

message 121: by Debbie, sardonic princess of cheerfulness (new)

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
I am one step ahead of you....have put it in place......you are the answer!!

message 122: by Ken, Moderator (new)

Ken | 18714 comments Mod
Wha--? I am never the answer. I've always been the question (namely, what the hell am I doing here*?)

* "here" could be anywhere, but usually denotes Earth

Error corrected, but you're the one who put the idea in my head.

Everyone: I've gotten friend requests from that same girl (I think), and from a Nigerian lady who think I'm really, really, hot, but who doesn't read. You can flag requests like that and report them.

message 124: by [deleted user] (new)

I thought that was quite the compliment NE :)

To get the right answer they actually need to have at least lurked in this group! And know what a co-moderator is! I had thought of asking something much harder but who has time to read 50 million posts to find an answer!!? You must be popular relyt! I don't usually get friends requests from people who aren't members of this group....and those Nigerians get around! I had several of them with European names and very similar photos contact me through MySpace declaring that I had 'a kind face' and could I just launder 30 million dollars for them through my bank account, for which they would need full details of course, and I would get to keep 10%....oh, and have the opportunity to make honest men of them too if I so desired!!!!!

The answer to my question is buried in these threads somewhere, meaning I will remain one of the most friendless posters in all of Goodreadom.

I guess that means I'll never be among the coveted TOP PROFILES because, I suspect, the TOP PROFILES go to the people who send out the most friend-quests. Think about it. What's the first thing you do when you receive such a request -- you click their profile to see who the heck this suitor is, scratch your head, shrug your shoulders, then delete. But the person gets a "hit" and a chance to be a TOP PROFILE.

Please make this friend-less poster a TOP PROFILE by clicking his profile repeatedly this week. If I make the list, I will be complete and whole (but not holy) as a person. It (sob) has been on my bucket list for 10 days or so.

Which reminds me, should we have a language-related bucket list on the FUN & GAMES area? I suppose no one HAS language related bucket list items (like, "I'd like to speak Czech before I die...").

message 127: by [deleted user] (last edited May 26, 2008 08:49AM) (new)

I do-- I actually want to be able to speak Spanish fluently. And I like the bucket list idea :) I'm off to do it-- in a timely manner this time :)

Oh-- I say "pooh-pooh" to the whloe TOP PROFILE thing. What? Are we in high school here? They need to play on myspace if they want to be "popular." (gets off soapbox and moves on to create new thread)

message 128: by Ken, Moderator (new)

Ken | 18714 comments Mod
Then I wonder how they choose the "Top Reviewers." Number of "liked it" clicks from non-friends on your reviews, maybe?

Anyway, it's all in keeping. I was not one of the "Senior Superlatives" in the high school yearbook, either. Below the radar is my middle name...

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
The whole "popularity" thing sucks! It smacks of shallowness - pretty = popular. I am loved, have friends, and new acquaintances seem to like me....but I don't court "popularity". In NZ (at least among those who did not grow up with the cheaper side of American culture shoved into our faces via B-grade TV and film) things like loyalty, trust and core values are far more important.

In NE things like loyalty, trust and core values are far more important, too. Of course it takes New Englanders around 5 years to warm to you... but be patient!

Hey, does Mum read along here at L&G? Is that where she got the idea?

News item from this week: one recent night a bunch of young miscreants invaded Robert Frost's vacant house in New Hampshire and partied like it's 1995 (again). They were caught and their punishment is to attend a 6-week course on Frost's poetry.

Two parties diverged in a yellow wood, and all that!

Hahahahahahaha! I wouldn't have got that 2 months ago! No, my mum is completely computer illiterate (although an author and artist)....I told her about it and she was so pathetically grateful that one of her children was finally showing an interest in the airier-fairier side of life that she bought it for me! I am thrilled.

Hey!! Brainwave!! Lets invade someone's (famous poet/author's house) for one of our parties! How about......Tolkein (although I believe he is hobbit-forming!).
