Deb's Daze(d and Confused)
I am contemplating an e-reader also. My son is trying to convince me to get an iPad. It has a larger screen and can do more things, not that I would use them. The price is what is holding me up. I could make use of Kindle and Nook with one device. I like the idea of magazines also.
It's called LIFE. And a lot of us wish we were gardening, painting, etc.
In fact, when I retire, I want to take an art course. When I retire... (sigh).

I haven't touched my paints in years. I probably should throw them out. I keep saying maybe when I retire. ha
He may have been bought and paid for but I have not! Also.....I don't like margaritas! Double Black Russian and I might be tempted........if the 'boy' was at least 6 months older than me!!
Oh.....what a day! *wipes away little tear*
Went to Wellington with my daughter so she could try on wedding dresses....she is so GORGEOUS!!! And the dresses are so EXPENSIVE!!!! Looks like she will opt for something strapless with a beaded bodice merging into a tulle overskirt.....in ivory......

When my stepdaughter got married, we went to a shop in Los Angeles that sold sample dresses. Got a gorgeous dress for about 1/3 of what it would have been the previous season.
Oh and just wait until you see what they charge for the few yards of netting called a veil!
Everything for weddings is so vastly overpriced it makes me furious. They know they've got you by the hair and act accordingly.
That said, I hope you have a lovely time with this wedding.

After all is said and done the goal will be achieved with minimum stress I hope. Like Ruth I think the prices are so much more for everything, just because they know you want a nice ceremony. We made my son's and daughter-in-laws invitations on the computer. They looked engraved and very classy. We also made the center pieces for the tables and favors .Center pieces were the large Hershey kisses(blue and silver) with white flowers and little Hershey kisses all around the table.
My stepdaughter made her veil. I made my son's wedding cake. So much could be done without too much work if you didn't have a roll to play that day, Mother of the Bride.
Shinado's in OC has fantastic ideas and silks and everything floral , crafts etc. Too bad Debbie you are not close I would help.
I have never been into wasteful displays.....my own wedding was simple and small (bought new gowns for bridesmaid but my dress was bought secondhand for a song....not long or trad either).
I am happy to bear the expense for her dress. I am also taking care of the after-match costs. We will rely on family to do photos, her future sister-in-law is making the cake and the groom's parents are helping with the drinks. I do have a role on the day.....as 'parental unit', I am giving away the bride! No mother of the bride pastelly, florally-frocky, hideous-hattily ensembles for me!!!

Gack, no. I always thought those getups looked as though they were meant for "grandmother of the bride." Now that I am of GOTB age, I'm convinced they're for "great grandmother of the bride."
I love your everybody-chipping-in wedding. We had one like that for my son. I made the cake and some of the buffet meal, provided the house where the wedding took place. Homegrown flowers for the decorations. Bride's parents (dad was out of work) paid for the dress, and more of the food (from Costco), son's stepmother made the punch, his dad bought the lawn chairs for the ceremony. A lovely time was had by all, even if it was 114 degress that day.
In fact, I think that's how weddings should be. Everyone chipping in to show their love for the couple.

I heartily agree Ruth . It makes for a wonderful occasion with pleasant memories. Just invite the ones you care about. No muss no fuss.
Your son's wedding sounds perfect Ruth.....and by all means post the pics here Gabi.....Bridal Channel it has been dubbed;-)......and Gabs....completely impossible to upstage MY bride!!!
Wow!! Number 7 would be my pick....she wants lace!! And that off-the-shoulder look is gorgeous. I will show her next time I see her and let you know what she thinks! I have managed to get her to agree to keep looking anyway....we have another date for the 30th :-)
Reports are done! The holidays are beckoning!! I just have to get through the last 4 days without strangling anyone......

Love the doggies. Puts me in mind of William Wegman, the artist.

High winds last night meant that when I went walking this morning, the footpaths were covered with autumn!
Looks like we are going with something almost identical to this....

It's only a wedding (heh heh). I'm sorry. After the royal wedding, I'm feeling Full Metal Cynical.
I thought it suited her.....and I liked the panels in the skirt. Mall loved the lace sleeves to the extent where I think I have persuaded her to wear a little lace bolero over her dress.
Just back from a lovely 24 hours in Wellington.....opening night at the ballet (Stravinsky Selection triple bill....Milagros, a ho-hum new work and Petrouchka), followed by tiramasu at a dessert restaurant....then a donors lunch at the company the next day, followed by an afternoon with my son ......all that glorious music, dance, food and company :-)
By the way, Milagros is a stunning work by Javier de Frutos, who choreographed this work on the Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2003....it was nominated for an Olivier. It is utterly primal, violent, sensual with touches of crude sexuality and tenderness - many people find it too disturbing to watch.....danced to piano recording of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. I have provided a link here....

And I rubbed shoulders (almost literally) with Ethan Stiefel who was over from the States for the season.....he takes up the Artistic Director's role in September.

I've had mine for two years and read a grand total of ONE book on it. Have a couple others, including Twain's newly-minted biography, downloaded on it too. Just haven't gotten to it (gotten!) thanks to my TBR pile.
