I make it 2 days ahead so it can.....ripen! It is rich....eggs, sugar, brandy, cream, evaporated milk and a sprinkle of nutmeg to serve. We sip it slowly on Xmas Eve with pop-ins.
I have never been a fan of eggnog. It's okay. If you gave me some, Deb, I'd be happy to drink it. But I never would seek it out.
I'm glad to see you drink it the right way. I cannot understand people who plop it into your hand before a meal. Are they nutz?
BTW, popovers I know, but what the hell is a pop-in?

People who 'pop in' on their way past....delivering gifts; to or from church; last-minute shopping etc....
Thank you my dear.....I am BOXING on toDAY.....had leftover trifle for brekky (o bliss o rapture)!!!! Hope your Christmas is warm and friendly and fun :-)
Thanks Gabs.....but I am FAR too old to let her rip on New Year's Eve! My tradition is to compete with my eyelids and the lousy tele on offer to see who will make it to midnight first!!
Better late than never (blame it on dead zones in the middle of Germany!)...HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Watch for the party streamers and vuvuzelas appearing in a few hours (right out of your television, Deb!).
Oh well, what do you expect at Christmas, Gabi? Spring cleaning?Glad to see you trounced your trojan.
Yes, Germany. Follow the link. That is our place of abode for a few weeks in winter and summer every year. We've packed up in Egypt for good (in fact the container is somewhere floating on the North Sea as I write) and awaiting to hear of our new destination (it may even be singing under a bridge and passing the hat to collect our pennies - likely to be few as my singing even chases off the cats) to which we will depart after the quick trip to Australia in a few days (you don't need a link for Brisbane and Cairns do you?).
Well, listen sweets!!! I'd send you a personal message but you have turned the option off!!!! And I haven't got the foggiest idea who your painting passion is so I can't answer your challenge question when I send you a friend request! So send me one, and I'll respond!Kisses back (but not on the mouth!)
I am spending WAY too much time here! Off to do some actual reading.....start me up Keef baby!!!
I'm amazed Keef is still standing. It seems drugs and alcohol kill some and preserve others. I'm not sure who winds up the better looking, though: the dead or the preserved.
Nice to know that at my advanced age I am not yet so de-sensitized or cynical that music can't move me to tears.......
I agree with G. Vaughan Williams with those swelling strings can grab the internal strings (heart). But he also employs one of the woodwinds that I find haunting... only, being a musical dunce, I can't tell you which one it is. Cornet? I don't think it's a clarinet. Maybe oboe? Oh, for a bandy in this time of doubt!
It was Barber: Adagio conducted by Bernstein that got me going actually....thinking about it, I feel it might have been used for a movie with a wartime or holocaust theme......
Virginia, you should create your own Stream of Consciousness....do you know how?

That's it Gabi! I knew I associated it with tragedy.
And the cor anglais is one of my favourite sounds too Gabi....along with oboe and sax.

I'm going to be a mother-in-law!!! My lovely girl announced her engagement to the only man she's ever loved (since the age of 15.....8 years together)!!!!! A wedding in the family.....yay!!!
Aw Debbie congratulations to the happy couple and many best wishes also. Here's a nice church.[image error]
Wow, can Kitty whip up a church (date of your daughter's choice!) or what? Tell Mallory we virtuals are pleased as punch for her (and him, as he's the luckier one). ;-)
Date yet to be set.....but the church won't be needed.....at the moment I am trying to talk them out of flying immediate family to the top of the Tararuas (1500+ metres) in helicopters!!!! Apart from anything else, the weather is notoriously fickle, and I don't fancy being stuck up there overnight because the wind got up a bit!!
Mallory is still adamant that she won't be ready for kids til she's 30......she is her mother's daughter.....I waited til I was 28.

Debt drivers, you mean? She might consider being a godmother instead, and visiting as she sees fit before (sigh) going home and leaving the kiddies behind.
He's quietly proud! His name is Kinane. And they are best friends. For those of you who want a clear view...here it is.....
Close but no cigar! It is an eye-shaped channel of diamonds and the central stone is a larger diamond. He had it specially made as he wanted her to have something unique.
Those are gorgeous Gabi.....bet the prices are gorgeous too! I'm with you on the leather-beaten women who drip with gold.....I am quite happy with my watch (gold) and the ring my sister gave me for my 50th (garnet and gold).....that's all.
Debbie, Your daughter is just lovely!!!
She and your soon-to-be SIL look so wonderfully happy together!
Best wishes to you and your family on this new union!
Susanne
