I can see that now....how about you? It is my daughter Ruth, performing in All Shook Up, a musical the local amateurs did.

That does it! Excedrin Headache #327? And is that a mike (mic) she's hooked up to?

message 503: by Debbie, sardonic princess of cheerfulness (new)

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
Excedrin? I don't get it.....and yes....it's a mike.

message 504: by Ken, Moderator (new)

Ken | 18714 comments Mod
It's an old ad for Excedrin, an aspirin. People held their hands to their head and said, "Excedrin Headache Number (whatever)." Then, of course, they reach for the drug. Ka-ching!

So your daughter is a singer, eh?

Just for fun! She's a travel consultant in real life.

This was her first acting lead role....and she did a mean southern accent (American). My mum reckons she fostered it by reading Epaminondas to her as a child! She has a fine comic edge too.....get a load of this (I believe the line was "Oh baby"!!)
Oh baby!!

We do get Packed to the Rafters (of course....we get anything with Rebecca Gibney who is a NZer too)....I love it!
This is her everyday self.....
Mallory

Heaps better! The surgeon took the left lens out of my glasses because it interfered with my vision.....
Can't wait til it settles down enough to get new ones.

message 509: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Are you still using drops?

message 510: by Debbie, sardonic princess of cheerfulness (new)

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
Carol....still on drops, but ease back to twice a day from tomorrow (for another 2 weeks). I have another appt with the surgeon on Sept 3rd so will leave getting a new prescription til after then.
Gabi....the series is Australian and filmed there!! Rebecca Gibney's family live here in my neck of the woods....she often visits.
Mallory is happy living in the rural outskirts with her man and her animals......no ambition for fame (but fortune might appeal!!).

Oink oink! The World Health Organisation has just said that the swine flu pandemic is officially over! Has no-one told them that the Wairarapa is always a year behind everyone else? I had more than half my class away with N1H1 last week, my sister had it, my mother and brother as I type. I have been a little off-colour since Saturday, but not sick enough to stay home. Teachers are tough!! We build up the most amazing immune systems......fingers crossed!

message 512: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments I hope you don't get it. I thought I had read where they are sneaking the swine flu shot piggeybacked into the other flu shot. Have you seen any news like that?

Carol (Kitty) wrote: "I hope you don't get it. I thought I had read where they are sneaking the swine flu shot piggeybacked into the other flu shot. Have you seen any news like that?"

It's not "sneaking," Carol. Every year new varieties of flu are always included in the flu shots.

message 514: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments I thought I had heard on the radio they were combining the swine flu shot with the other flu shot.

Have you heard they are recommending whooping cough shots again.

message 515: by Ken, Moderator (new)

Ken | 18714 comments Mod
The hysteria over swine flu was, like most medical smokescreens, a means of making BIG bucks for the drug (read: vaccine) companies. I was one of the few teachers to pass on the vaccine. Popped my Vitamin D, got my rest, exercised, ate right, and was fine without the mercury, formaldehyde, etc., in my body.

BEWARE WHEN THE CURE IS DEADLIER THAN THE DISEASE -- especially in this day of bought-and-paid-for health overseers (e.g. the FDA).

The regular flu shot we get every year is always a combination of all the latest varieties of flu. Naturally, swine flu will be added to the mix this fall.

I'm going to ask my internist about whooping cough, though. I'll bet it's been 60-75 years since I had my immunization, and apparently there's a bit of an epidemic here in California

message 517: by Ken, Moderator (new)

Ken | 18714 comments Mod
Ask him for the ingredients, too. (Heh heh)

message 518: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments I don't get much choice . They say pull up your sleeve there you go. I did say no thanks to swine shot last year. Since I have been getting the flue shot for five years, I can say I have not had the flu. I work in the public, and people will sneeze into their hand and give you money or whatever. I keep sanitizers everywhere.

message 519: by Ken, Moderator (new)

Ken | 18714 comments Mod
I can also say since I have NOT been getting the flu shot for 20 years, I have only had the flu once. I work in the public with students who sneeze into their hand and give you papers to correct (or whatever). I keep sanitizers because the kiddies are addicted to them. Ah, the smell of rubbing alcohol in the morning!

message 520: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments It is that Yankee constitution you have. And not the one in Washington. My immune system stinks.

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
I have never had a flu shot. The sickest I have ever been was 2 bouts of pneumonia in the late 90's and scarlet fever (the real mccoy) in 06. That was awful....no flu could be worse!

message 522: by Carol (last edited Aug 10, 2010 05:56PM) (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Whoa scarlet fever. that is unusual.

... and dangerous for your heart.

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
My doctor knew it was a scarlatina rash and was quite puzzled (because at 48 I was way too old for it!)....the giveaway was after the fever subsided and all the skin on my hands and feet started peeling off in sheets (took about a week). I was also left with severe joint pain for about a month (akin to arthritis). It cleared eventually....
No-one ever said it was a heart weakener....I thought that was rheumatic fever!

message 525: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 16546 comments Mod
I always get a flu shot. Us older folks get sicker and sicker from stuff we could have sluffed off when we were younger.

The one year the flu bug got to me before I got the shot, I was sick for 2 months.

Debbie, Scarlet Fever can be a precursor to Rheumatic Fever... and that's where the heart damage is more likely to be involved.

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
No.....fingers, toes, tops and soles of feet, backs and palms of hands..... I wonder if I had rheumatic fever complications....that might explain the lingering joint pain for a few weeks afterwards....

message 528: by Debbie, sardonic princess of cheerfulness (new)

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
Yeah....he got it all......had me tested for rheumatoid arthritis (my brother and grandmother had severe cases)....all clear/...

That's the south island. Debs is on the... um... OK, I have no clue.

message 543: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Oh . You don't think she felt it then. 7.1 is pretty strong. We had a 6.0 in 1971 in Sylmar and we felt it a lot. Of course it depends if you are on the upswing or downswing as to how much shaking you feel.

message 544: by Debbie, sardonic princess of cheerfulness (new)

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) | 6389 comments Mod
I am in the north island and was fast asleep at 4.35am so I didn't feel a thing! A couple of things fell down in my kitchen but no breakages. I hope my mum's cousins are OK though....she is booked to fly down there in 10 days for a visit....don't know if she will still go or not.
And anyway....as you all know....the earth never moves for me now!!!!

Jan (auntyjan) | 1259 comments As soon as I saw the news this morning I immediately checked facebook to see if my friend was OK...he's on holidays in Christchurch. All was well, so my next thought was Debbie must be OK. Christchurch airport is closed however, and there seems to be quite a bit of damage to buildings, roads blocked etc.

message 549: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) | 1259 comments Where is Sylmar? And is a 7 ten times greater than a 6 on the Richter scale or 100 times stronger?

message 550: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments Sylmar is in Southern California. A 7 is greater than a 6 on the Richter scale .Maybe Ruth would know if it is 10 times or 100 times/. All I know it scares the hell out of you.
