Sucheta (suchetabiswas) Hello folks...I am not sure if this topic has been covered or not because I am new..but I want to ask you to advice me on the best writing tools online or even apps. I love 'Writer' for its no-distractions interface. Maybe something on the same line? Thanks in advance :)

Andrea Travis (wwwdedhedpoetcom) | 1 comments Hi there, I am Andrea. I also am looking for the best apps and such for writing and jotting down notes. I like these:
NOTEBOOKS, QuickMemo+, and Bookwriter Free. All apps I use daily. Hope this helps! If you come across any more, please let me know!

Sucheta (suchetabiswas) You can always install the Clearly add on to your browser. It removes all the ads and unnecessary elements and gives you only the text to read. You can modify it according to your preferences.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) There's many to choose from these days, but of very varying quality. I believe there is no 'one' product which will 'do it all'. There's a lot of products which try to 'do it all' and wind up being utterly useless. I used to keep track of them all, but when it got to be over forty products, I stopped counting.

Simplicity in a writing app is (for me) crucial. I don't want distractions. Ironically, to achieve this, I often resort to dashing off my copy right into Notepad or Wordpad, even though there are so many other products I might choose instead.

I know that the following have strong appeal lately to users (they've all won and retained their fanbases):

'OneNote' (memo tool from MS, which for once is well-programmed software)
'Celtx' (free, focus on screenplays, also does project-management for shoots)
most popular lately:
'Scrivener'. The most talked-about these days. Lots of people rave/love it.
Pretty flexible, but takes some getting used to.
And I personally recommend:
'YWriter5' (for prose, novels, and short story writing, free)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) p.s. Idea: if you give a product rec in this thread, please provide a link. Links to all of the ones I mentioned are freely available on the net, they're not obscure. All well-known Windows softwares. But for some product as vaguely-titled as 'Writer'--? How to search that in Google? I'd like to see the website. Got the link? thx

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) There are some website-only based tools, too (I re-read the OP's thread)

'Plotbot' for example. Collaboration website.

Alex Rushmer | 15 comments I don't know if this helps at all, but I like to use Pinterest. There are a lot of writing prompts and dialogue prompts as well as links to helpful blog posts. If anything, I have found Pinterest to be a good place to generate ideas.

Sucheta (suchetabiswas) This is a lovely tip Alex. The most useful one. Thanks for sharing it with us :)

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Scrib'd is a big one I forgot to mention earlier. You can upload docs, keep track of drafts and revisions, and publish directly to that site for the world to see. Scrib'd reformats all docs into a very nice easy-to-read web-format. You can also upload your docs but hide them from all eyes; and you can control downloads, copying, and printing from your readers.
