Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 2426 comments I have a question for the self-professed Twilight fans.

Why are you fans? What's so appealing about the books?

message 58: by Miss Amelia (last edited Dec 23, 2009 09:43AM) (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) well im a fan, so maybe i can answer the question.
I personally really like Edward. I like him cause he's gentlemanly, he's pretty much the opposite of every major "bad boy" character in teen fiction (which i like) and faults and all, he is totally and exclusively devoted to bella. i like jacob too because he's more "manly" and impulsive. I think the most appealing thing about the books is the love story, because there's really little else going on :D
I like how stephenie took the age-old concept of vampires and made them different and special just to her story (the whole volturi backstory thing was brilliant, in my opinion). To be honest, though, I could have done without the sparkling.
I also like Stephenie just because of who she is: she's not some crazy feminist ranting about how boys stink and all that. Her characters always remain "appropriate" (ie no party scenes, no drinking/drugs, no premarital sex).
The funny thing is--my one criticism of the story is Bella herself. Yes, i like the Twilight series, but I dont like the narrator! She was just incredibly annoying to me: on one hand, she was constantly trying to declare that she was independent and "her own woman" and on the other hand she was constantly pining for edward/jacob. I would have liked the story a lot more i it was told in 3rd person, I think.
There you go, hopefully that made sense. Im sure other fans have their own reasons for liking the series and hopefully they'll express it :D

message 59: by Ayunda (new)

Ayunda (ayundabs) :D i like twilight mainly because of the romance :)

message 60: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) me too! i definitely wouldnt complain about having edward as a boyfriend! he can stand by my bed with a baseball bat and beat the heck out of the boogeyman for me!

message 61: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Hey, if we have any TWILIGHT fans in our group, stay tuned for this message:

As some of you may be aware, most of the Stephenie Meyer TWILIGHT series quotes have mysteriously vanished from goodreads... the friendly folks at the TWILIGHT LOVERS group are trying to post back the quotes, and if you want to, you can help them out by clicking here:
http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/new

if you want to copy quotes directly, you can use this site:
http://www.twilight-quotes.com/

okay, that's just about the end of my little commercial.

lol.

Personally, i didnt like the Volturi. Victoria was always nastier and more of a threat.

I like the modern day vampire-werewolf thing.
AND the characters are all so unique and exceptional.
I like the whole idea of the series, and the lead up to the climax in TWILIGHT and BREAKING DAWN are exceptional.

(@*%(#_%*_(#@*%_(#@SPOILER)_#QI(%)_#850(@#)%(#@%(#+%(23=59

i wanted a huge fight at the end of Breaking Dawn, and the death of a main character (dosent matter who-but a main character, would have made the story 3 dimensional, but the only person who dies is someone introduced the chapter before.) Like the thing in HP7, it was so good because of all the emotion we felt at the deaths, There were such emotional death scene's, that made us hate Voldemort even more. Which made the victory even sweeter. But in Breaking Dawn, there is that huge lead up, training, gathering with all the vampire covens.... and they talk out their problems. Forgive me, Twi-lovers, i love the series too, but the ending let it down. Oh, what could have been.

BUt yes, it IS a great series, some bits are MEH but its a great idea, great charries, and i really love them.

....not as much as Harry Potter though. Or Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flammel.

Victoria is awesome!! She's my favorite bad character in Twilight.

i LOVED the volturi! their passages made the story really interesting!

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 592 comments As far as the second book goes, which is as far as I've read, I prefer the Volturi to Victoria. Victoria's just some angry vampire lady. The Volturi are an organized system of bad-guyness (and I <3 Jamie Campbell Bower). They almost make me think of a cult for some reason, except none of them are brainwashed...as far as I know.

message 68: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) i think they're really intriguing (sp?) because they're neither good nor bad, exactly. they're really ruthless but they're effective and necessary.
IDK, I thought the volturi was stephenie's greatest TWILIGHT invention :P

*Mrs. Brightside* Did anyone read Midnight Sun?

(;Alicia™ღA constant game of Russian Roulette (aliciawontcare) | 4 comments I did. But my view on twilight is that all the characters are so fake, and I just don't mean as Vampire or werewolf fake. I mean the characters are completely unrealistic. Bella is practically an empty shell with no personality what so ever so that any girl can easily relate to her.She hardly is described when it comes to looks aspects or any thing else for that matter. Now Edward is every girls dream, not only does he look perfect but he comes equipped with practically anything a girl could want. He's much too perfect.

message 71: by Ayunda (new)

Ayunda (ayundabs) I just watched eclipse today. I think the movie was too... average. but the book was great.

message 72: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 04, 2010 03:31PM) (new)

The twilight series are the books that got me interested in reading fantasy books or, in general, reading! After reading other books that are waaayy better and more in-depth writing than Twilight, I'm not that interested in it anymore. Also, it got too popular with the bad film adaptations.

message 73: by [deleted user] (new)

Twilight was average, New Moon was annoying, Eclipse was pretty good, and Breaking Dawn was promising but was a massive fail. I can't stand hearing about any of the characters and Bella makes me want to punch someone. I do however enjoy just enjoying them every now and then. And for the record- Team Edward in the books, Team Jacob in the movies, and Team Charlie for both.

I can see what you mean with most of your reasons, but I just want to say that SM is practically the opposite of a 'crazy feminist', and the thing with drinking and drugs etc., I'm pretty sure that in either New Moon or Twilight, Bella takes cough medicine to cause her to fall asleep. Sorry, I couldn't help pointing that out.

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

what's SM?

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

I HAVE NO IDEA.

I used to love the books, but now their just...meh.
Not good, but not bad either.

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

He's sooo funny!!!! He always sounds right about what he's saying about twilight because of his british accent. it's funny how he makes fun of bella and how she's so weird and dull.
LOLZ
I used to love the books so much but the movies just ruined my perspective on it. LOVE THIS VIDEO.

Mandie | 355 comments And creepy.

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

and her writing doesn't make sense sometimes:
(I got this from Alex reads Twilight) It's soooo funny. :D
"What's a bizarre glare???
What does a crooked smile look like???
Is futilely a word???
Better to wear a neck brace than to actually die from a car crash! Stupid girl. . ."
And it gets boring sometimes 'cuz SMeyer "over-describes" stuff. I mean, toooooo descriptive. I get bored.

message 93: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
oh, and my personal favorites:
-"He was hansomer then any movie star". Hansomer? Is that a word? Not the most hansom. He was the hansomest, of all the hansoms there are!

OR:
-"The estrogen rush was invigorating." What teenage girl uses the word 'estrogen' to describe a party? Can you imagine: Oh hey mum. The party was awesome, the estrogen was pumping.

message 94: by [deleted user] (new)

haha. EPIC!
i watched all of them yesterday.
love how whenever he says lauren he says '****ing lauren'
ch 23 isnt out yet, right?

message 95: by Mandie (new)

Mandie | 355 comments No, unfortunately. His videos are really good but he hasn't put the last few chapters on youtube yet.

message 96: by [deleted user] (new)

It's funny how he started to read it in October 2009 but he hasn't finished the book yet. LOLZ

message 97: by Regan (new)

Regan | 3 comments I don't like it. I mean, it was an interesting book, I will admit that, but then. . . I guess every flaw hit me.

A few flaws in a series, fine, but this just had to many!

message 98: by [deleted user] (new)

after watching alex reads twilight, i realized that twilight really isn't that well written.
