Oh dear. I thought you might ask me that. I have seen it so many times on GR and when I searched I began to panic. Then I found a single example in the GR Librarians Group where there is a discussion called "Serieses". I assure you I am not delusional, I have seen it before on GR and assumed it was just an Americanese term in general use. If this is not the case I will have to use my age once again as a catch all excuse for confusion.

This is an interesting question. I've seen multiple discussions elsewhere on this topic with a few people asserting that it's an older, now obsolete usage. They cite "dictionaries" but no specific dictionary other than Wiktionary (ha!) and no historical examples. I find it impossible to believe that it's anything other than recently coined.
