Thanks a bunch, I could read more if I wasn't doing my knitting or dealing with kid stuff. I will have to crack down. lol.

I see children's books are not allowed, but I'm guessing Young Adults are okay. I just started the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series in anticipation of the movie that comes out early next year.

I see children's books ar..."
I didn't know the Percy Jackson movie was coming out early next year! That makes me super excited! I love the series!

I'm with you Lisa. It's very seldom that I don't read the end of the book. I try very hard not to, but ... most of the time, I have to read the rest of the book to see why it ended the way it did.

I think that would be a good one. You could even start it Afsana :D

cool will do so i nearer the time if all ok with it
I just started doing the Seasonal challenges over at The Next Best Book Club and they have got me reading a bit more. I figure this will help me get a list of books that I want to read or want to re-read and I can use the both of them together!

As long as things stick to the current rate of 18-20 books per month, I should be able to kick this challenge in the pants. I usually set goals by page count per year (30K for 2010) but I'll go by book count here as well. But as the Nationwide commercials used to say, "Life comes at you fast". in other words we'll see how it goes.
I'll post my thread in the appropriate category.
Thanks for having this around.

I'm excited! I already have a list of books to get started on in the new year :)

Yep, audio books count according to the rules!

the stand is great-you enjoying it?

I'm not retired but I am single with no family living close by. My friends all live out of state so not much of a social life. Most days I get to read at work but usually only about 100 pages or so. I don't watch TV though I will watch a TV show on DVD once in a while...so lots of free time. I don't really have any vices so books are it.
Needless to say, I read about a book a day and usually 3 over the weekend hence the 365 a year. This is the first year that I've really kept track and it was amazing.
I buy a lot of my older books from used bookstores and/or library sales. I do buy all the newer releases (which I must have) from borders (or B&N) and yes all the cashier's know me.

Under the rules list, it says "audio books allowed".

..."
I don't know if I would have been able to participate if they hadn't! Audiobooks allow me to be reading nearly every second of the day - driving, washing dishes, doing makeup... I'd never get to 144 with traditional reading methods! lol

I'm with you. I often can get through an audio book faster than a regular book because household chores can be done while listening. Gosh, I love my MP3 Player!!
And even if you don't have one of those, a cd player will work too, as long as you're doing stuff in the same room or in the car. I have an older car, and so it's a cassette deck, but with a special adapter, i can use the MP3 player in the car. Works great for music too. What did I do before all these new gadgets?

Dawn,
There are some rules, like no small children's books. However, most of it is really up to you. The only book I haven't counted this year was an short audio book that was originally part of a collection of 4 short stories in book form. If I had actual read or listened to all of the stories in the book, then I would have counted it.
There are several topics where people are discussing how they will count their books.

Dawn, here are the rules (such as they may be--there really isn't much you can't do in the challenge): "Challenge Starts January 1, 2010. Audio books are included. No childrens books. " --That's copy/pasted right from the rules.
