Chapter Breakdown
Guidance for DQ setters
Aim for a reasonable number of questions: 4 - 5 is typical. Please don't post too many - any more than 7 gets unwieldy!
Use consecutive numbering of the DQs for your days. So, for example, if Day One is posted as questions 1-4, Day Two should start at number 5 etc.
Don't worry too much about your questions: you aren't being tested on how clever your questions are!
Hints and tips:
- Is there a quote that jumped out at you? Use that in a question.
- What about the characters - do they generate strong feelings? No feelings? - either way, we can explore that!
- What about that plot twist?!
- Explore the writing style: is there an unusual structure being used? what's the tone of voice like? or the point of view?

I broke it into 5 parts, 3 are assigned. I wasn't sure if angelinabvby was volunteering for a set of questions or just excited for the read.
So the last 2 sections are up for grabs for anyone willing to write them.
The sections are long, so 2 days per section. Post questions on either day!

Day One- Parts I to XIV1. Wild Reverence is part of the Letters of Enchantment series and is the Prequel book. Have you read Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows? If you have read how does this book feel compared to those? If you haven't read from Rebecca Ross, how are you liking this story so far.
2. Matilda gave her name to Vincent. Have you pondered on how that will affect them and what are your thoughts?
3. Zenia provided Matilda with her fathers name- Thile. Do you think she will seek him out right away or ask for advice and guidance?
Catherine wrote: "I could pick up another section as I am loving this book and feel I will finish more quickly."
why don't you take section 4 and then if no one else steps up, I can pick up the last section as well.

I have read Divine Rivals, which I thought was a great book. It may be because it's been a year since I read that one, but I'm not feeling like they are connected at this point. But, since it is a prequel, I guessing that this is going to tell us what started the war.
2. Matilda gave her name to Vincent. Have you pondered on how that will affect them and what are your thoughts?
I didn't put a lot of thought into it; I just assumed it meant she was transitioning from the dream connection to a real one.
3. Zenia provided Matilda with her fathers name- Thile. Do you think she will seek him out right away or ask for advice and guidance?
Her survival instinct kicked in pretty much right away. I'm not sure how she will react going forward. I think she would be better off seeking guidance from someone rather than looking for Thile.

1. Wild Reverence is part of the Letters of Enchantment series and is the Prequel book. Have you read Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows? If you have read how does this book feel compared to those? If you haven't read from Rebecca Ross, how are you liking this story so far.
I've read both, I enjoyed Divine Rivals a lot but Ruthless Vows not nearly as much. I kind of wished it had just been one book. It's definitely her writing style, which is beautiful prose but dang it can meander along. In the beginning to set the stage it's not bothersome, but if it stays this way for the whole book it might be a long 500 pages.
2. Matilda gave her name to Vincent. Have you pondered on how that will affect them and what are your thoughts?
Names in this world certainly have a sort of power it seems and it makes her seem real and less of just a dream persona. Maybe it'll make it easier to find one another? I didn't really think much about it until this question.
3. Zenia provided Matilda with her fathers name- Thile. Do you think she will seek him out right away or ask for advice and guidance?
I hope she seeks some advice from someone. Maybe that wind god? he seemed a little friendly? Her father seems a bit scary, even for a god.

DQs Section 2
Chapters XV to XXIX
4.) The white owl came up a lot with young Vincent, do you think that was Alva spying on his dreams? Why this kid out of all the mortals I wonder.
I'm assuming it was her and that Vincent stop seeing her once Matilda was in Skyward because she didn't have a reason to collect his dreams anymore. Though not sure why she chose this particular boy. Not sure it matters I guess, seems a bit random.
5.) Did the meeting with her Father Thine go as you expected? What did you think of the Skyward court compared to the other?
It was anticlimactic, but in a good way. I'm glad she had a safe place to go. And it makes me think Zenia was wrong to keep their daughter a secret from him. I'm not sure it was the disaster she thought it would of been.
6.) The pretending to be wed is an interesting development, do you think it will be a successful ploy?
I'm not sure how well it's going to work. They just got married by themselves with no witnesses? to a Lord? That seems strange but maybe it works because she's a goddess and not some hussey from the marketplace?
7.) Any guesses as to which god Grimwald is sending prayers to?
I would say Bane because, war. but since they were being burned, I'm guessing Warin since they are on the riverbank? Also it only makes sense for it to be a god that has popped up in the story, so it's a short list for options. I guess it could be Thine since he's the head dude, but his powers are like summer and whatnot. So Warin makes more sense to me.

Sure!

I haven't read them yet, but I've seen them all over bookstagram. I think i've read one Rebecca Ross book a long time ago and enjoyed it. The name is definitely familiar, but I am enjoying this book as well
2. Matilda gave her name to Vincent. Have you pondered on how that will affect them and what are your thoughts?
He seems innocent and kind enough not to take advantage of knowing her name, but I do worry that since he is a mortal, he will age quicker and be more likely to take advantage of her name in the future.
3. Zenia provided Matilda with her father's name- Thile. Do you think she will seek him out right away or ask for advice and guidance?
I think she's going to make finding him her next mission. Since she's a herald and all, I don't think this will be too difficult for her, going off of how easily she found Fate.

I have read all the books with this being my favorite so far. Divine Rivals was good but Ruthless Vows needed to be longer and more explained. I feel like this prequel should probably be read before Ruthless Vows IMO.
2. Matilda gave her name to Vincent. Have you pondered on how that will affect them and what are your thoughts?
Yes as it seems that a name has meaning, But I can't imagine how it could hurt her, Maybe he can just call to her more easily?
3. Zenia provided Matilda with her fathers name- Thile. Do you think she will seek him out right away or ask for advice and guidance?
I feel she will need to as what her mother did is a crime and she could be blamed for it.
DQs Section 2Chapters XV to XXIX
4.) The white owl came up a lot with young Vincent, do you think that was Alva spying on his dreams? Why this kid out of all the mortals I wonder.
Hmm I totally missed that part of the story. But ya more than likely. Seems Alva is pushing Matilda to him, but why?
5.) Did the meeting with her Father Thine go as you expected? What did you think of the Skyward court compared to the other?
I enjoyed that the meeting was less drama and that it showed him upset but came back to deal with it. Matilda needed somewhere to go and I think living with her father was a good progression. I feel like we didn't get a whole lot of sense of skyward. Hopefully we will learn more in other parts.
6.) The pretending to be wed is an interesting development, do you think it will be a successful ploy?
Not sure how it is that helpful unless she has access to armies or extra powers that we don't know yet. But maybe the same goes for the Uncle and he doesn't know her power or access to assistance to fighting his armies.
7.) Any guesses as to which god Grimwald is sending prayers to?
I am excited to find out because imagine if it is Bade and so he would not fight against Matilda. But it will probably be the obvious as someone more her enemy than friend and who has helped her recently. The god of river, iron (stolen title), and Spring- Warin. Because of course we need her past lover to be jealous of her newly wedded husband,
DQs Section 2Chapters XV to XXIX
4.) The white owl came up a lot with young Vincent, do you think that was Alva spying on his dreams? Why this kid out of all the mortals I wonder.
It could have been Alva. Seeing a white owl often symbolizes wisdom, profound transformation, and a connection to the spiritual realm, acting as a messenger of change. It could be any number of things. I didn't really put much thought into why there was an owl while reading.
5.) Did the meeting with her Father Thine go as you expected? What did you think of the Skyward court compared to the other?
It was much more low-key. Thine seemed upset...was it because he didn't know about Matilda or because she existed? Hard to know; gods aren't usually open with their thoughts or intentions.
6.) The pretending to be wed is an interesting development, do you think it will be a successful ploy?
I'm not sure how that will play out either. It seems that since they didn't honor any of Vincent's peoples traditions that they wouldn't accept the marriage. But, since she is a goddess maybe that makes a difference? Who knows!
7.) Any guesses as to which god Grimwald is sending prayers to?
I would guess Bane, but it's just a guess because he's the god of war.
DQs Section 3 ~ Chapters XXX to XLVIII8.) During the meeting with Grimald, the rules of parlay are broken when Grimald shoots an arrow at Vincent, which Matilda intercepts. Do you think this sacrifice change Matilda's role from a messenger to a protector or does it have a different meaning?
9.) Warin's desire to charge a toll for crossing the bridge/river, seems quite steep … one-third of their harvests, money and their third born child. What did you think of his reasoning? Did it change your opinion of him from earlier chapters?
10.) This section flips between Matilda and Vincent’s point of view. Did you like this flip? Did it give you more information or would you prefer that the story be told entirely from Matilda’s POV?
11. ) The quote below stood out for me - it seemed a bit hypocritical. What do you think Matilda meant by this? Was there another quote that stood out to you?
"I did not want someone helping me out of duty. I was weary of such things, of a world of debts and vows. I would prefer to face the terror alone than to have someone in my shadow who was only there out of obligation."
DQs Section 2Chapters XV to XXIX
4.) The white owl came up a lot with young Vincent, do you think that was Alva spying on his dreams? Why this kid out of all the mortals I wonder.
I think it was! But I have no clue why she's so interested in Vincent. I presume he is going to be a very important person though bc why else would you care so much ab him.
5.) Did the meeting with her Father Thine go as you expected? What did you think of the Skyward court compared to the other?
I thought it went the way I expected. Thine was her father. I figured he wouldn't blame her for whatever happened between her mother and him. Ik Gods and Goddesses are different, but still
6.) The pretending to be wed is an interesting development, do you think it will be a successful ploy?
I think she has a point that Grimald isn't going to retreat easily. I think it's going to become a war between Warin vs. Matilda and Bade
7.) Any guesses as to which god Grimwald is sending prayers to?
I think it would be either Bade or Warin. But I presume it's Warin moreso, bc he was lurking around before.
I do think it changes her role to a protector. One that shows her willingness to use her power and herself to protect or shield those she loves (both the mortals and Vincent). I think it will probably change her status and purpose among the gods.
9.) Warin's desire to charge a toll for crossing the bridge/river, seems quite steep … one-third of their harvests, money and their third born child. What did you think of his reasoning? Did it change your opinion of him from earlier chapters?
I always saw him as power-hungry! This just strengthened my original thought…it shows that he views the mortals only as subjects to be exploited to elevate his status among the gods and to show his envy of what he doesn’t have.
10.) This section flips between Matilda and Vincent’s point of view. Did you like this flip? Did it give you more information or would you prefer that the story be told entirely from Matilda’s POV?
I don't ususally like dual POVs, but in this case, I think we need them to know what each character's perception of the circumstances.
11. ) The quote below stood out for me - it seemed a bit hypocritical. What do you think Matilda meant by this? Was there another quote that stood out to you?
I did not want someone helping me out of duty. I was weary of such things, of a world of debts and vows. I would prefer to face the terror alone than to have someone in my shadow who was only there out of obligation.
I think that she probably realized that true loyalty (and love) comes not from being compelled or forced by vows and debts, but from an authentic connection between people that is a true chosen devotion. I am hoping that her struggle moves her forward to act from her feelings than what she thinks she owes others.
DQs Day 3 ~ Chapters XXX to XLVIII8.) During the meeting with Grimald, the rules of parlay are broken when Grimald shoots an arrow at Vincent, which Matilda intercepts. Do you think this sacrifice change Matilda's role from a messenger to a protector or does it have a different meaning?
I think in concept it does change but not in words, Her holding his prayer he sent so long ago is still burning a hole in her pocket and so I think that is a huge reason she did it.
9.) Warin's desire to charge a toll for crossing the bridge/river, seems quite steep … one-third of their harvests, money and their third born child. What did you think of his reasoning? Did it change your opinion of him from earlier chapters?
Warin seemed a creep to me ever since I knew he was the one to kill the god of Iron. Also trying to get the information for the doors to the underworld from Matilda. So, it doesn't surprise me, but why he needs humans could be for anything even just amusement.
10.) This section flips between Matilda and Vincent’s point of view. Did you like this flip? Did it give you more information or would you prefer that the story be told entirely from Matilda’s POV?
I enjoyed the POV's and it gives more story line this way. Not just one sided.
11. ) The quote below stood out for me - it seemed a bit hypocritical. What do you think Matilda meant by this? Was there another quote that stood out to you?
"I did not want someone helping me out of duty. I was weary of such things, of a world of debts and vows. I would prefer to face the terror alone than to have someone in my shadow who was only there out of obligation."
Not in this section, so I won't share just yet, but I saved it on my Kindle.
I didn't really think of it in this way, but it does make sense. I think it does change Matilda to more of a protector, but I also think it ensured that Grimald thought they were actually married. Bc why would you step in front of an arrow if you didn't care about them?
9.) Warin's desire to charge a toll for crossing the bridge/river, seems quite steep … one-third of their harvests, money and their third born child. What did you think of his reasoning? Did it change your opinion of him from earlier chapters?
I thought they were different options, but I may have misunderstood. Which might be why I was so confused as to why they couldn't just give one third of their harvest (although I do remember Hugh saying they don't have that much extra food). I think Warin intended the third child thing as a belittlement of Vincent. He likely knows he is the third child and wants to make him feel more insecure and unworthy. I still don't like Warin, so my opinion hasn't changed.
10.) This section flips between Matilda and Vincent’s point of view. Did you like this flip? Did it give you more information or would you prefer that the story be told entirely from Matilda’s POV?
I liked this flip. I thought it was cool to see the world from two different moments, the battle and Vincent trying to keep the vulnerable safe.
11. ) The quote below stood out for me - it seemed a bit hypocritical. What do you think Matilda meant by this? Was there another quote that stood out to you?
"I did not want someone helping me out of duty. I was weary of such things, of a world of debts and vows. I would prefer to face the terror alone than to have someone in my shadow who was only there out of obligation."
I think so and I think she realized it right after saying it. She went to help Vincent out of his prayers she sent him, even if she also liked him, I think that was her main purpose. To not let him down.
DQs Section 3 ~ Chapters XXX to XLVIII
8.) During the meeting with Grimald, the rules of parlay are broken when Grimald shoots an arrow at Vincent, which Matilda intercepts. Do you think this sacrifice change Matilda's role from a messenger to a protector or does it have a different meaning?
Maybe. I think it might also grow her power as a goddess since more of Vincent's people may worship/believe in her. It also aligns with her sense of duty to protect and help Vincent.
9.) Warin's desire to charge a toll for crossing the bridge/river, seems quite steep … one-third of their harvests, money and their third born child. What did you think of his reasoning? Did it change your opinion of him from earlier chapters?
Warin is a jerk and a bully. The reasoning makes sense probably to a god since their sense of value in the mortal word never is grounded in reality. But those prices are just bonkers. It didn't change my already low opinion of him, because it really couldn't get that much lower anyway.
10.) This section flips between Matilda and Vincent’s point of view. Did you like this flip? Did it give you more information or would you prefer that the story be told entirely from Matilda’s POV?
I don't mind dual POVs as long as the other POV provides useful information instead of the same information in a different flavor. I think having both is helpful in this case.
11. ) The quote below stood out for me - it seemed a bit hypocritical. What do you think Matilda meant by this? Was there another quote that stood out to you?
"I did not want someone helping me out of duty. I was weary of such things, of a world of debts and vows. I would prefer to face the terror alone than to have someone in my shadow who was only there out of obligation."
I understand where she is coming from and I think it comes from knowing how to trust someone. In the worlds she grew up in trust was such a thin and fragile thing.
8.) During the meeting with Grimald, the rules of parlay are broken when Grimald shoots an arrow at Vincent, which Matilda intercepts. Do you think this sacrifice change Matilda's role from a messenger to a protector or does it have a different meaning?

hmm I thought I already posted this, sorry guysDQ's day 4 XLIX to LXVIII
12. Matilda learns she has another power and uses it to bring back Nathaniel. Her price is 7 years to the gatekeeper. We also learn she has several more constillations now. Do you think this means she has more powers that we will see? Any guesses what?
13. Matilda gets rescued from Alva who is planning to kill her for more power, by Enva. She used song to put them to sleep. Do we all think this is what happened at the wedding to Dacre as well and why?
14. Thine's punishment to Matilda for taking over the Eithral seemed pretty harsh. Do you think he wanted to make an example or was his hand forced? Why do you think Rowena came to help her after the Whipping?
15. Matilda freed the Eithral from Dacre. Do you think she will be able to free more and without punishment?
Bonus-Owls are Rowena's pet. She is fate and needs to see all so it does make sense,

I think it does. I think it will make her appear more as a threat to other Gods and maybe put a target on her back. Alva has already tried killing her right after noticing she had 6 more stars. And she also has those extra two stars no one knows about from Adria. I predict she's gonna be massively powerful!
13. Matilda gets rescued from Alva who is planning to kill her for more power, by Enva. She used song to put them to sleep. Do we all think this is what happened at the wedding to Dacre as well and why?
I think so! But I have no clue why she did that at the wedding. I know it's said that Enva is missing from the wedding, so maybe she went back Skyward to share what she saw? Maybe she's a spy?
14. Thine's punishment to Matilda for taking over the Eithral seemed pretty harsh. Do you think he wanted to make an example or was his hand forced? Why do you think Rowena came to help her after the Whipping?
I think Thine was truly scared of Matilda and what she found out she is able to do. I don't think it's normal to be able to control an eithral and come back unscathed and normal. So maybe he was making a little small example for anyone who might try it, but I think the punishment was more so for Matilda to discourage her from trying it again. I think Rowena came to save Matilda because Matilda is necessary for the future. Rowena is fate so maybe there's a big war coming that Matilda will have to play a part in.
15. Matilda freed the Eithral from Dacre. Do you think she will be able to free more and without punishment?
I thought the eithral was already free in a way once she took over it's eyes. Maybe that was how she got it to think on its own. If that's the case, I don't see what's stopping her from freeing more. (Other than Thine's punishment which I'm sure is still very much in her mind).
Bonus-Owls are Rowena's pet. She is fate and needs to see all so it does make sense,

Hmm, I'm not sure more powers after we learned about her soul powers? Maybe just a better understanding of her powers as she grows in strength? I don't have any guesses because I don't really know enough about how the gods learn their powers in the first place and I think the options are endless
13. Matilda gets rescued from Alva who is planning to kill her for more power, by Enva. She used song to put them to sleep. Do we all think this is what happened at the wedding to Dacre as well and why?
Yes, I assumed that's why everyone was asleep at the wedding feast. I assumed she did it because she was mad about being forced into the wedding and wasn't super excited to be Darce's lady love.
14. Thine's punishment to Matilda for taking over the Eithral seemed pretty harsh. Do you think he wanted to make an example or was his hand forced? Why do you think Rowena came to help her after the Whipping?
I think it was a couple of things. Making an example of her, not showing favoritism to his daughter, he's scared of her growing power and what that may mean for him in future. I think Rowena got involved because of something she saw in the future?
15. Matilda freed the Eithral from Dacre. Do you think she will be able to free more and without punishment?
I mean I think she certainly could but they'd need a place to go. Those are puppies you want hanging out in the park down the street.
12. Matilda learns she has another power and uses it to bring back Nathaniel. Her price is 7 years to the gatekeeper. We also learn she has several more constillations now. Do you think this means she has more powers that we will see? Any guesses what?
Hmm, I'm not sure more powers after we learned about her soul powers? Maybe just a better understanding of her powers as she grows in strength? I don't have any guesses because I don't really know enough about how the gods learn their powers in the first place and I think the options are endless
13. Matilda gets rescued from Alva who is planning to kill her for more power, by Enva. She used song to put them to sleep. Do we all think this is what happened at the wedding to Dacre as well and why?

DQ's Day 5 LXIX to end16. What are your thoughts on the Epilogue and how it tied the other two books to this one.
I didn't understand the ending at all. I guess it's showing that Matilda's powers are still being used in the modern world? But I was definitely confused.
17. Who were your favorite and least favorite characters and your overall opinion of Wild Reverence?
Favorites: Bade, Nathaniel, Matilda, Vincent
Least Favorite: Grimald, Warin, Hugo
I really liked the book! I gave it a 5 star! It kept me interested and I actually liked the romance in it!
18. If you were a god in Wild Reverence, would you rather live Skyward or the Under Realm.
I think I would rather be Skyward. It seems brighter and more cheerful.
DQ's day 4 XLIX to LXVIII12. Matilda learns she has another power and uses it to bring back Nathaniel. Her price is 7 years to the gatekeeper. We also learn she has several more constillations now. Do you think this means she has more powers that we will see? Any guesses what?
It does seem like she should have more powers but not sure what but definitely an issue as others may want her powers more now.
13. Matilda gets rescued from Alva who is planning to kill her for more power, by Enva. She used song to put them to sleep. Do we all think this is what happened at the wedding to Dacre as well and why?
I think that is probably the first time it happened and was by accident but now Enva knows she can do it for future use like when she saved Matilda from Alva.
14. Thine's punishment to Matilda for taking over the Eithral seemed pretty harsh. Do you think he wanted to make an example or was his hand forced? Why do you think Rowena came to help her after the Whipping?
I think it might be a bit of both he wanted to make an example, especially since Matilda is his daughter and he doesn't want others to start trying. But also perhaps his hand was forced by the river god. Rowena probably could see that Thine would go overboard if not monitored and no one else could stop him like she could.
15. Matilda freed the Eithral from Dacre. Do you think she will be able to free more and without punishment?
It would be fun to see them free.
DQ's Day 5 LXIX to end16. What are your thoughts on the Epilogue and how it tied the other two books to this one.
It was so dumb and thrown together, Like if she wouldn't have put it in she would have more room to write another book and explore that story. I guess she still could. But I still don't get it.
17. Who were your favorite and least favorite characters and your overall opinion of Wild Reverence?
My favorite was Bade because he honored his role of protecting Matilda all the way to the end.
18. If you were a god in Wild Reverence, would you rather live Skyward or the Under Realm.
From learning that it didn't matter what realm you still had issues. I think I would choose Under as I liked Bade and his wife the most.

16. What are your thoughts on the Epilogue and how it tied the other two books to this one.
It gave an important connection I think but some of it was a little confusing. Maybe because it's been a minute since I read the original duology and some of the finer points are lost to the mess of my brain.
17. Who were your favorite and least favorite characters and your overall opinion of Wild Reverence?
I liked it more than the original second book which I didn't enjoy that much, but I wish it had been a bit shorter. I think it was a me problem to a certain extent. I've been in a bit of a mood.
Bade and his wife were favorites. A lot of the other gods were kinds of horrible.
18. If you were a god in Wild Reverence, would you rather live Skyward or the Under Realm.
Skyward, I like some of their powers better.

Dear Matilda, I wrote.
I let the words flow for her.
And when the ink dried,
I gave my very heart
to the fire.
Born in the firelit domain of the under realm, Matilda is the youngest goddess of her clan, blessed with humble messenger magic she uses to carry words and letters through the realms. But the gods will kill for power, and Matilda holds a secret she must hide from even her dearest allies.
And there is a mortal who dreams of her, though they have never met in the waking world. Ten years ago, Vincent of Beckett wrote to Matilda on the darkest night of his life—begging the goddess he befriended in dreams to help him. His request went unanswered, and Vincent became a hardened, irreverent lord of the river who has long forgotten Matilda . . . until she comes tumbling into his bedroom window with a letter for him.
Matilda and Vincent were fated to find each other beyond dreams. But to rewrite the blood-soaked ways of the gods, Matilda will have to face something she fears even more than losing her magic: finally allowing herself to be loved.
