So What Do You Think?

Premise on GRs for Shadow and Bone

Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

Shadow and Bone is the first installment in Leigh Bardugo's Grisha Trilogy.

I'm currently reading the second one right now, and I forgot how fast these books read. I read like 70 pages in half an hour last night.

Pretty good. I think I'm liking it better than the first one!

Ooooh? How's the darkling in the second book?

Gone for the most part. He was there in the beginning for a little bit, but hes all distorted and crazy. More so than last time!

Haha and here I thought he was pretty nuts in the first book ^^". I'll be interested to see what you think about the second book, since I was planning to read it at all for a long time (even though I liked the first, it didn't really shoot me over the moon though I do plan to read the second book when I get round to it.)

I've read like 170 pages as of right now, and I feel like barely anything has happened. It didn't wow me as much as I hoped it would, but that was because I hyped myself up so much. I lowered my expectations, so hopefully it will be better this time. Also, I wished I had binge read the series. I forgot what happened for the most part in book one, and I had to relearn all the russian terms and vocab.

Hopefully this time will be better for you! It does suck when you have too many expectations and it just doesn't match up. Haha not much really happened in the first book asides from the basic. And yeah I know what you mean about relearning the vocab!

I just read a lot more and it's getting good! It's kinda like they have to rebuild Ravka since the end of book one. There's lots of character development. And I like Mal a lot better now

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
Oooo that's good!

If I remember correctly, wasn't Mal like really boring and utterly bland in the first book? Or well, I think I felt like he wasn't given much character development compared to the Darkling and whatshername, Alina? Aliya? Aliana? (Forgot her name :s)

Haha yeah her name is Alina. He was pretty boring. I hated the whole well now that you're gone, I want you thing from him. But he's redeeming himself. He's there constantly now so it's interesting. He's more the jealous type

Nina {ᴡᴏʀᴅs ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ} | 1046 comments Mod
I knew it was A something! And yeah....Mal irritated me a lot. Because it wasn't Alina's fault that she was doing something and he was missing her! It's good to know he's redeeming himself. Haha I can actually imagine him as the jealous type!
