At Last a book as good as HARRY POTTER

It sounds like a book that's a lot of fun, and maybe captures some of the goofiness that I loved in the first HP book and which dropped out of the series pretty fast as Harry aged?

Well, I'll stand by Lord of the Rings for better fantasy than HP, though not really meant for kids (still, I read it in the 5th grade). I really love the first HP book, and the next couple after that...and then they took a turn to the dark side that I didn't enjoy as much--I think I liked the humor of the early books as much as the stories.

Archie Wilson looks to be a great new series. I love the Scottish setting. Its funny and fast moving. What age group do you think would love it? I'm thinking 8 - 11ish perhaps... happy to be disagreed with, though.

Flabbergasted. Why is this not more well known? Its one of the greatest books I have read. I just heard it again on Audio book, the story is up there with Potter.

I liked The Field GuideSpiderwick Chronicles for a fun unique world read.. Then more on the Sci-fi/Fantasy side, and telling my age, The The Dragonriders of PernDragonriders of Pern - Anne McCaffrey and Harper Hall of Pern by the same author.

Wow this was a great recommendation. I just heard it on audio book, we listen to one in the car as a family when we visit gran. This is our families favourite book on audio, the voices the narrator uses are epic and it makes it come to life. I did read it as well, but now I have heard it on audio its like watching a movie. At one point it actually makes you almost cry, I think my sister did, then next minute you are laughing.

I read the book this in February and now just got it on audio as it was recommend here. We are going to our caravan by the coast (to Escape the plague) and listened to half of it on the way down, my mum and dad loved it and said we will have to listener to the rest tonight. I'm not sure why it is not well known.

I have done both, read the book and now heard the audio book.
To me nothing is better than a great paperback, this is an original story worthy or being classed as the same category as Potter, yet its nothing like Harry Potter.
I drive out of state once a month for a client and listener to audio books on the journey. If you ever listen to one book on audio, this is the one. Saying that I still loved the paperback version. I doubt it will be long before its turned into a movie.

Thanks for the recommendation. What a fantastic novel, Archie Wilson & The Beasts of Loch Ness was all you guys said it would be. I loved the creatures and explanation of why the Monster is not seen, but most of all I loved the connection between father and son.

Does anyone know if book 2 is written yet? At the end of Book 1 Archie asks himself a question and leaves us hanging.

One way of checking on Goodreads is to open the book page (click on a link to it) then click on the author's name. You'll be able to check the list of books they have on Goodreads on their page.

Strange how this title keeps popping up. How can a book with such an original well written story stay out of sight?
I sometimes wonder if it's like the music industry, great singers and songs can be out there and go un-noticed, stick a few kids on America's Got Talent and bag they are the hottest item out.

On its own merits this novel is every bit a classic. I expect if things are meant to be, it will become popular.

I also checked, I didn't see a book 2 but agree we were left expecting one, the plot has been firmly laid down.
