​Description: এই উপন্যাস লেখার কাজটি শুরু হয়েছিল ১৯৮৫ সালে। এক নাগাড়ে কয়েক বছর লিখেছি। তারপর সামান্য কিছুকাল বন্ধ ছিল। অবশেষে রাতদিন পরিশ্রম করে ২০০০ হাজার সালের মে মাসের প্রথম সপ্তাহে শেষ করেছি। দীর্ঘ পনেরো বছর লেগেছে এই উপন্যাসটি লিখতে। উপন্যাসের সবগুলো চরিত্র বাস্তব। বাস্তব ঘটনার উপরে সামান্য একটু কল্পনার রঙ চড়ানো হয়েছে। ওই রঙটুকু না চড়ানো হলে হয়ে উঠতো সমাজ জীবনের তথ্যের বিবরণ।
​আমাদের এই ধর্মমানা সমাজের গায়ে অনেক ক্ষত রয়েছে। ওই ক্ষতের নীল মাছিগুলোকে আমি গভীরভাবে নিকট থেকে প্রত্যক্ষ করেছি। যারা পঙ্কিলতা থেকে মানুষকে উদ্ধার করার কাজে ধর্মকে ব্যবহার করেছেন, তাদের সঙ্গেও মিশেছি। দেখেছি, তারা বাইরের দিক থেকে যেমন ফাঁপা—তেমনি ভেতরের দিক থেকেও ফাঁপা। আমার এই উপন্যাসে তাদেরকে তুলে ধরেছি। খাটো করার উদ্দেশ্যে নয়। সমাজের অভ্যন্তর খোলামেলা করে দেখানোর চেষ্টা করেছি। আমি মনে করি, লেখক হিসাবে এটাই আমার মূল দায়িত্ব। অনেকেই ভাবতে পারেন, এই উপন্যাস লেখার পেছনে আমার বিশেষ কোন উদ্দেশ্য রয়েছে। হ্যাঁ উদ্দেশ্যতো অবশ্যই রয়েছে। সে উদ্দেশ্য হলো, আমাদের সমাজ, আমাদের রাষ্ট্রব্যবস্থা, আমাদের জীবন যাপন, এবং আমাদের অতীত, বর্তমান ও ভবিষ্যৎ কি রকম, সেটাই তুলে ধরা।
