Okay, here's mine:there was yesterday to weep
this heat is deceiving,
because though my skin is on fire
his heart is cold
as last december's christmas frost.
the ice i slipped and broke my
bones on.
(is that foreshadowing?)
i've never been good with
analyzing dreams.
like the one i had weeks ago,
the one where i was driving
past bushes and then i span out of control
and died.
and his voice was repeating on the radio,
(faster) ( faster ) ( f a s t e r ) ( f a s t e r ) he was
whispering into my soul
and i listened because he is
the prince's son
and he is
a wondrous one
and every battle fought
he has won.
and i woke up and knew that
above and below various roads
and trees and telephone lines,
somewhere across a highway
he was talking to her,
while i slept
and pretended to know
nothing of it.
and he knows and i know
and she knows and
they know and we know
that i know and yet they
smile and ask me how my
day has been.
and this is why i weep.
because he is
the prince's son
and he is
a wondrous one
and every battle fought
he has won;
even for celestial bodies
he is the sun.
( there is a time to a n a l y z e,
there is a time to close your eyes
there is a time to d r e a m ,
there is a time to scream ,
there is a time to weep ,
there is a time to sleep ,
and there is a time to steal ,
and there is right now to h e a l . )
Hush by Sarah M.
Hush little child
don't you weep
Mama's gonna sing you
off to sleep
Hush little child
don't you feel sad
for someday's you're happy
on others, mad
Hush little child
don't be scared
in your darkest moments
know I'm there
Hush little child
don't hold a grudge
for it leads to hurt feelings
and friendships crushed
Hush little child
you're young, so sleep
and pray the Lord
your soul to keep
Hush little child
don't you weep
Mama's gonna sing you
off to sleep
Hush little child
don't you feel sad
for someday's you're happy
on others, mad
Hush little child
don't be scared
in your darkest moments
know I'm there
Hush little child
don't hold a grudge
for it leads to hurt feelings
and friendships crushed
Hush little child
you're young, so sleep
and pray the Lord
your soul to keep
@ Sarah: Aww. That was adorable! And a good idea too, I wouldn't have thought of a mother-and-her-baby thing for "weeping".
Nice!
Here's mine:Red Streams Replace a River Blue
The pain is strong,
and the taunting hurts,
so in come rivers of blue.
Your parents fight,
their words of hate fill you,
here comes rivers of blue.
your date comes in to dump you,
your friends soon abandon,
rivers of blue rush in.
Another more painful fight,
this time there are scratches,
red streams replace the blue.
Divorce is settled,
father beats,
bigger streams of red.
Death in the family,
mother no more,
streams of red gush in.
No more hope,
only despair,
both rivers of blue,
and streams of red,
take their place in you.
One more death,
and try to guess who's,
but no more streams of red,
and no more river of blues.
Mhmm...semi-scary, though! It was very specific though - do you know what I mean? I prefer poetry that's more abstract, more interpretable, if that's a word. That's probably my only criticism, but even that's a matter of opinion. Half the world probably hates my vague poetry style, so...if explicit is how you roll, then don't let fools like me get in your way!
I wish other people would join our writing contests, though, it's always this little group of ours: Al, Hanzle, Sarah, Thomas, and like, two other people.Hardly anyone even votes. :( that's very sad-making.
I'm here too. I'm not participating this week, but I'm here. I'll at least vote though and maybe invite some writers I know.
It is also making us bored with the same format of poems every single time. It would be nice if there were 10 poems and at least 20 voters. That way we could see the overall "best" more accurately and it also gets many more people to get better and better.
Oh, gosh... who to vote for? They're all so good....I'm thinking Tempust or Al... but I don't know. Lol! I'm sorry to y'all that I didn't write anything this week. :( But great job to everyone! :D
I think somebody should vote for that breathtaking poem "there was yesterday to weep". *flutters eyelashes jokingly*. Who was the poet? She must be very intelligent and creative and gorgeous to have come up with something so beautiful...;)
Lol! Tempust! :O I'm appalled! Just utterly shocked! I was going to vote for yours... but I voted for my sister's instead. But, I just wanna tell you something Tempust... I am a huge fan of your poetry. You have such raw and truly meaningful "stuff" in there. :D I love everything you write.
Oh! *blushes a ridiculous shade of purple - wait, what? red!* Wow, thanks! Um, now I sort of don't know what to say...uh, yeaaaahhhh. Thanks. I love your stories - but I have a bone to pick with you! Where is your submission for this week's contest?lol, I'm just kidding. I got it, you have a life.
(Unlike some people *cough*ME*cough*)
Lol! I wasn't sucking up! ;] Yeah... my creativity was scarce this week. Believe me, I don't have an interesting or really all that busy life. Sorry. :( But, I will definitely submit something for this week. Al just needs to give us a topic. :P
