Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) Jennifer Weiner's Certain Girls...wonderful in spite of the part that made me cry. I love her work (yes I know she's a Good Read's Author), I've read them all except for The Guy Not Taken. I read Good In Bed a while ago and always hoped she'd write more to the story and I was definitely pleased with most aspects of the story.

Kai (ky02121) Just finished Shutter Island by Denis Lehane.

message 53: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ The fourth Percy Jackson book: The Battle of the Labyrinth. I got up an hour early before school just to finish it. lol. It was really good!!! But now I have to wait another two years or so for the next one to come out. grrr... omg. by then i'll be, like, seventeen. And I'm already a little too old to be reading the series! :D but I can't help it--they're such awesome books. i know they're not, like, intellectual or anything, but i love the plot and how greek mythology is tied in, and i'm emotionally attached to the characters... lol.

message 54: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ awww i love ella enchanted! you can never get "too old" for that book. it's like a classic!

Jim | 112 comments THE BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEAD by Kevin Brockmeier(sp?)

really great book

find out who the sasha are and how you help them and how they are part of your entire life and what are the 5 virtues to give to your kids

great language/descriptions

very touching and mystifying

starts slowly but this morning I woke up at 3:30 AM happy to be reading it again after putting it down last night at 11PM
didn't stop until done

not a long book but as touching a book as a realist can handle

Chelsea | 38 comments I finished rading, The Outsiders, Schooled, and The Milting of Maggie Bean and I'm about to finish Rumble Fish, which I started yesterday!

message 60: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Chelsea, I thought the Book Thief was amazing! Very original and moving. I couldn't put it down. I don't want to give anything away, so I'm sorry if I am being vague.

message 61: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) I just finished the second installment of the Erec Rex series, Erec Rex:The Monsters of Otherness by Kaza Kingsley.

Chelsea, you should definitely read "The Book Thief". Best YA book I ever read.

message 62: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) I finished The Thirteenth Tale last night - definitely as good as everyone said it would be. I kept bringing it home from the library and bringing it back unread because I just couldn't get around to it before it was due back (and people kept putting it on hold so I couldn't renew it)...otherwise I would have had it read a long time ago...but it was worth the wait. Next I plan to read Things I want my daughter to know by Elizabeth Noble.

message 63: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) I finished Things I want my daughters to know by Elizabeth Noble. I just couldn't put it down today...I had a real good cry with this book. It was wonderful and sad and lovely. It was chic lit/brit lit but with real substance. High recommendations.

message 64: by Ashley (new)

i am developing a new reading plan. i have become discouraged with my reading of the 100 best of the 20th century after reading about 70 of them. i may get back to the list someday. i am using henry jame s THE AMBASSADORS as my insomnia or rise too early book. i read some of it at 6 this am while awaiting my normal 7 am wakeup routine. i am intelligent enough to read henry but not patient enough. i will continue to try to finish it but with no time schedule. my new plan involves reading award winning books. i collect the pulitzer prize winners from 2000 on and am now reading the national book award winners to compare the two winners. junot diaz s THE BRIEF WONDROUS LIFE OF OSCAR WAO is much better than denis johnson s TREE OF SMOKE. for 06 i read cormac s THE ROAD which i didn t like and tomorrow i start richard powers THE ECHO MAKER. will someone please write to me about some of my posts. i love this site but can t get responders. thanks.. joem

Beth Love your blog, Lillian! I just finished reading Murder New York Style, a collection of mystery/suspense short stories written by authors in the greater New York area. Some are excellent, some just good, but overall it's a worthwhile collection that's been well-edited.

message 69: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 42 comments I just finished Uglies and then shortly after Stardust by Neil Gaiman. Both were excellent reads.

message 70: by Lillian (new)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) I just finished (yesterday evening) The Queen's Man: A Medieval Mystery, by Sharon Kay Penman.

It was a fun little historical mystery. My main complaint with it was it was too short.

Chelsea | 38 comments I think I will read "Book Thief". I just finished "Generation Dead" by Daniel Waters. It was GREAT! For the people who like normal books then don't read this cuz this is way different from any book I have ever read! But it is great! I love it! For people who like different books READ THIS BOOK! even if the cover looks odd.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) I finished Love and Louis XIV, by Antonia Fraser, last night. Very interesting, and well-written.

message 78: by Celeste (new)

Celeste (celestelueck) | 27 comments I've just finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Excellent read as most of you know. I can't believe I waited this long to read it. It will definitely go on the favorites shelf.

Also just finished We Remember by Jeanne Marie Laskas. This a great book of stories of women aged about 100. These women are from all walks of life. Very interesting.

message 79: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ just finished Chosen, the third book in the House of Night series. very interesting... and disturbing...

Pamela (pcniles) | 4 comments I finished reading "The Book Thief" about a week ago. One of the best books I've ever read and I absolutely loved it. This book will definitely go on my 'must read' and 'favorites' lists.

Chelsea | 38 comments I just finished "Blue Bloods" It was a pretty good book, I really want to read the next book.

message 86: by Cassidy (new)

Cassidy Savage (savagegy6) I just finished The Hallow by Nora Roberts and Odd Hours by Dean Koontz.
I loved The Hallow, the trilogy is wonderful.
Odd Hours, not so much, I was really disappointed actually. It was one of those I could have stopped reading if I hadn't read all the over books in the series.

message 87: by Sheila (new)

Sheila (srtoomey) | 3 comments The last book I've finished reading was Million Little Pieces

TheReadingKnitter/ Kasey (thereadingknitter) I finished Carrie by Stephen King.

message 92: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) I just finished Inkspell by Cornelia Funke. :)

message 93: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished reading "The God Of War". A very well written story of a boy's personal war with his life, a mentally handicapped younger brother and a loveing but neglectful mother. Well worth the read.

message 94: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) I finished reading A Dirty Job by Christoper moor, and was really sad to put it down. It was one of the funniest books I've read in a long time!

message 95: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) Have you read Christopher Moore's other books? My sister has and she really enjoys them. I actually think I got her A Dirty Job for her birthday in April. I've also read a little less than half of Lamb and it is great so far!

message 96: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) I haven't read any of his others, but I will definitely be looking into it after reading that one!

message 97: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) My sister just lent me three of his books: Fluke, A Dirty Job, and You Suck. I still have to finish reading Lamb though.

There is actually a really cool edition of Lamb. It's bound so that it looks like a really thin bible. A little more expensive than the basic paperback, but it looks cool. :)

message 98: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) One of the people in the other group I'm in has recommended Lamb to me. He reckons that it's by far the funniest of Moore's books.

message 99: by Adelita (new)

Adelita (adelitacampbell) Great books!!! Lamb by far is my favorite but A Dirty Job comes in a close second. Don't read You Suck because it is a sequel to Bloodsucking Fiends...so read that one first.

message 100: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (readerandwriter) Last night I finished reading "Songs of the Humpback Whale" by Jodi Picoult. Ok book, but not my favorite Picoult book. Wouldn't reccommend reading this book :(
