I think Matty and I have the same exact version of the book (my print is pretty decent sized)

but this one actually has chapter numbers....so a schedule will be nice and easy

if you can join, do you have a preference for # of pages per day? we could keep it really small, like 20 pages (or around 1 chapter)
it might take us a while, but I think it will either way!:)

That sounds good to me. The print is SO fine! Ugh...LOL I think I'll check my library to see if they have a different version with larger print. Just a decent size, not like a size 9 font!

Okay, my library doesn't have it but it is within my system. I ordered it so hopefully mid next week. I'll start with what I have and hopefully get the other copy sooner rather than later. LOL

20 pages will take us around 2 months, so hopefully I can keep the book that long. At the most I can have it for 12 weeks if no one puts it on hold.

No problem!(: I'm glad we're all reading this incredibly long book together lol I was intimidated when I first checked it out at the library:o

I'm home now and I ended up getting through Ch. 2 and stopped.

I love philosophical books, but they are usually pretty heavy and I normally have the book in my hand. Today I listened to the audio version and I loved it! The reader's voice and intonations were mesmerizing!

I'm not sure it his will cover only chapter one or one and two, so if you stop at one you might want to wait until you are done with two to read this.

First of all, there were quite a few thoughts/philosophical ideas that I (view spoiler)[agree with for sure. One thing is that money is not all there is in life, nor the most important aspect of life. That one really struck me because my daughter and I had just been talking about how some people measure others' worth by how much they earn, not by the kind of person they are. Unfortunately that is too true. (hide spoiler)]

The Oak tree (view spoiler)[that Eddie Willers reminisced about is the type of thing I love in books! Symbols such as this one, figurative language, and so forth. I loved his admiration for the tree and how he described his days on the Taggert estate with the Oak. I am curious to see if it is a one-time mention or if it becomes a motif. (hide spoiler)]

The Taggert railway/train (view spoiler)[was a part I liked reading about when Dagny got so upset that the Taggert Comet might be late and she "demanded" they fix it and arrive on time since it had never been late. The poor conductor! Imagine his shock when she told him who she was. She has quite a mission wanting to be even better than the best train line. Wonder if she'll pull it off. Somehow I think she might! LOL (hide spoiler)]

I wonder what is significant about (view spoiler)[Richard Halley's 5th concerto and whether or not he had written one she didn't know about. And who is the boy that was playing the song she was questioning? (hide spoiler)]

I think Dagny is definitely (view spoiler)[a good business person. I like how she is a woman in a man's world, doing her thing. Women were not very accepted as "grease monkeys" back then. LOL

Finished Ch. 7

I loved the part where the old man (view spoiler)[went on philosophically about people not having intellect, soul, virtues or moral values; rather man only has two capacities: to eat and reproduce. If I thought I was only such a person I don't think I'd have reason to live! If man didn't have morals or virtues, why do some kill, steal, be cruel and mean, yet others give so much of themselves to charities and people? (hide spoiler)]

I want to write more but have to run to work. Darn!
