Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) So I am a new fan of Robin Hobb and wanted to know if anyone wanted to do a buddy read and reread all of her works. Readers can read at their own pace and we can discuss as we read. I am just so excited about this series and would love to have people to chat with! If you're interested please reply to this thread.

Cee | 37 comments I would love to join for a reread of Assassin's Apprentice, but it really does depend on how much we're reading whether or not I can join. I'm graduating from uni this summer, so time is very limited

Margret Id love to!

Awesome! I thought we could just read at our own pace and discuss as we go. We can take as long as we like and just enjoy the process.

Lindsey | 124 comments Hannah, are you aware of The Robin Hobb Collection group? They re-read all of her novels prior to Fool's Assassin's publication. It's not quite as active a group now but there's some good comments in the discussions and it will pick back up when Fool's Quest is published this fall.

I'll be sure to check that out. Thanks!

Thanks so much. That should make this way more organized.

message 9: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) So we can officially start whenever everyone is ready.

message 10: by Margret (new)

Margret Starting with farseer trilogy? I'll catch up later. My friend still has the first book :)

message 11: by Kieron (new)

Kieron Will you be reading the liveship traders trilogy after the farseer trilogy. I read the farseer trilogy recently and loved it and have ship of magic on my nexus ready to read. I will join in on the second series of books.

We certainly can if everyone wants to. I will just be following along with those discussions though as I prefer to read the books in this order:
Farseer
Tawny man
Fitz and the fool
Liveship
Soldier son

message 13: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) I just like to keep the flow of fitz's complete story without it being broken up by liveship and soldier son.

message 14: by Kieron (new)

Kieron I never thought of reading them in that order. I always thought it would make sense to read them in the order they were released. Would be happy to go with the flow, and join in with what everybody decides.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments I think your order works just as well, Hannah.
That's how I read the series. Though, I have yet to finish the Liveship series.
:)

Well I can certainly be flexible. No problem either way. We can take vote and decide.

Liveship is the second trilogy. There is a character that is in Farseer, ships and Tawny so I'd stick to the published order.

Also the dragon quad follow Tawny - though I can't remember any repeat characters only incidents they share.

message 18: by Margret (new)

Margret I think I might prefer published order if that's ok with you!

message 19: by Wastrel (new)

Wastrel | 136 comments Publication order certainly makes more sense in terms of getting the most out of them, due to the shared world/characters/plot. Not usually essential, as the plots of the Fitz novels don't rely on the others, but makes a lot more sense.

In particular, it's widely speculated that the current trilogy will at some point tread more brazenly into 'rain wild chronicles' territory, which in turn is a direct sequal for some secondary characters to Liveships...

Anyway, i do encourage readers to post their comments in the Robin Hobb Collection group!

Exactly. The first time I read the first two trilogies, they were a few years apart and I didn't notice anything except a shared world. When reading together, there was a lot of shared stuff. That being the technical term ;)

Oh, and the dragons annoyed me until I read them much closer together, the first felt like half a story.

message 22: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Preiman | 22 comments I'll happily join in, once you get past first trilogy. Read them recently enough that I'd not want to do it again, and am afraid I'll spoil something if I don't

Wastrel | 136 comments Helen wrote: "Oh, and the dragons annoyed me until I read them much closer together, the first felt like half a story."

It was half a story! The publishers just cut the book in half and published it as two. They found a reasonable place to cut, but it was never written as a complete novel in its own right. [Well, Hobb may have had a chance to edit a chapter or two when she knew it would be split, but it wasn't in her original design, anyway]

message 24: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) Since most seem to be happier with publication order we can start that way.

I'll be doing pretty much the same thing. I am already halfway through Assassin's Quest.

message 26: by Kieron (new)

Kieron Happy to go in publication order. Will also be joining in on the 2nd series.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments Hannah, do you need someone to set up the threads? You seem to be past the first book, where others may have just started it.

That explains it. Read books three and four together, they were great.

message 29: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Kelly (herfictionalfelicities) That would be awesome. I am new to this so help is always welcome!

message 30: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Reece I'm up for this also. I've quite recently finished the first trilogy, but I'm happy to get involved - especially when you get to Tawny Man.

So how should questions be set up? Is there a standard format I should use when prepping these?
