This was an easy to read book. I read it in one sitting. I wasn't disappointed, but I don't know that I would read the rest of the series when it comes out.The plot line is intriguing, though the writing style is not mature. I do not mean that the author writes in a juvenile way, just that her writing style has room to grow. I think it will be interesting to see where she goes with it.
I like how she intertwines myth with reality. However, it would have been nice to include a scene describing the myth, or part of it, before starting the story.
The characters do not seem entirely believable. The only ones exempt from being entirely believable are those in Mabo’s tribe. Though some of them are pushing the boundary of believable myth. Mabo’s naiveté does not speak of one who has lived for centuries.
Africa is a beautiful country, the author could have described it better. I have no doubt of her descriptive abilities. Describing the natural features of Africa would have taken this book one step further.
I did feel that the end of the story wasn't really resolved or resolved to a satisfactory level.
All in all, it was a good read.
