Great story so far but the writing style is cumbersome and disjointed. Other than that it's really good. Wonder if this about the jersey devil. What do u think?
How are you liking the book so far Addy? I'm around 50 pages in and to be quiet honest, I don't care for it very much. I do NOT like tape scenes & that alone is enough for me to stop reading. I thought this was suppose to be about the Jersey devil, now I'm afraid it's just a deformed inbred :( or hopefully it will be kinda like a call of Cthulhu deal and the worship of the devil is causing the deformities? Idk, what do u think about it so far? Want to continue reading it?
What do u mean tape scenes? I'm also 50 pages in. I'm definitely interested in this book but if u are not enjoying it, it doesn't bother me if u want to stop. Let me know.
Oh, ok. Lol. Yeah, if u still don't like it, let me know. I'll try to read another chapter or so as well.
I'm still reading. ugh, those people in that nasty, muddy water! I can't handle getting in water like that. and what is up with them just shooting dogs like that?
Ok I mDe it to around 85 pages. The story of the heresy devil is revealed. I think I'm gonna just stop reading now and pass the book on to a friend. Sorry Addy. If you've read more than that and think I should keep on reading then I will.
I got to pg 80 and still enjoying it. Ernie is pretty weird but liking the group of campers. Im gonna continue to read but u don't have to if ur not into it. I can just read on and post my thoughts.
I just got this over the weekend. I am going to start it this week. I will try to catch up with you.
Glad to have you Vicki! Can't wait to see what you think! I wasn't sure at first, but now I'm really liking it.
Hmmmm... I see what you mean about it being disjointed. I have had to go back a few times and figure out stuff. Are you reading on kindle? I can't figure out when pov changes. I am at 16% and they just picked up the kid with the shattered hand. I don't really get what is going on but will read some more today. Were you confused at the start?
I need to re-read that book.... I got bored the first time and put it down for a month and when I picked it back up I had no clue who was doing what or why.... I can usually read a book like that in a few days, but somehow this one lost me
I'm reading the paperback. I can't say I'm confused, but it just changes characters quickly. I try to keep the ambulance crew and the police department together and right now I'm reading about the ppl who go camping. Also, the hillbillies may show up again. I'm pretty sure Ernie is Athena's challenged child and she is having an affair with the policeman who is married...Barry I think. Hope that helps and hopefully I understood the story correctly.
Vicki, wud u be interested in reading Cold Whisper by Rick Hautala after this? It is so good and I think u wud like it. That is, if u can find a copy. I don't think it's available on kindle but maybe. Think about it:)
I'm about 40%. There were some really tense parts with Athena and Lonny. Was wondering if Lonny is a white guy? I can't tell or don't remember.
Ok, back to this one... at 21%... it seems to be making more sense with the different groups. It is picking up for me now.Am confused about the ambulance group still though. With their old broken down stuff. Are they not really ambulance people? Why do they only do certain calls? I might have to go back.
Also... why shoot and kick the dogs? Are they just assholes?
Here is what it said about Lonny... p. 91 i thinkLonny and Wallace was so different, for brothers, I mean. I mean, Lonny’s so dark, not like Wallace was. I guess there must really be some Indian blood in the family, like they say. And Lonny’s got them eyes.”
Ok. Thanks! It just seemed like they didn't approve of Athena cause she was black. I think they killed the dogs to be mean. I don't really like Barry. He seems like an ass.
I just don't get this one. It seems to me like some random events in the hills. I will have to finish because I am almost done, but it is slow going.Did you finish Addy?
I have not. I'm still midway. Going to gain some ground but working all weekend. I will try to finish up next week for sure. So are you enjoying it at least?
I usually read books fast, and I heard good things about "The Pines," so I figured I'd be done in maybe 2 or three days. A week and a half later I was hardly half through, and when I picked it back up I couldn't remember who the characters were or what was really going on. I may have just been having a bad week, but I found it boring. I reshelved it, I'll try it again. If anyone has any thoughts on this leave a message here or message me!. Alex.
Somebody compared it to Douglas Preston's and Lincoln Child's "Relic" .... That's ridiculous, "Relic" has to be read in one or two days - it's that good.....
So far this book seems like just about a bunch of random killings in the pines. I hope we get to see more development.
Oh, I just realized that I finished and never posted anything here. It wasn't for me. I didn't care for it. It didn't make sense. I am glad it is over. lol
