Sometimes a book just ticks you off and makes you want to throw it across the room. Or maybe a character. And you want to "slap the character with its own book." Rant here!

Remember to give warning or tag spoilers!

Cress and Reached(?) both took/are taking me a million years to read, and there is no action at all

Amy D | 9 comments **spoiler alert** I can't believe I actually managed to finish this book. It didn't make any sense at all. It was just about insane people killing their classmates. The background story didn't make sense and the characters were mindless killers which didn't make sense.

Ok, Battle Royale is set in what was Japan. And every year or two years a class is randomly picked. The class is sent to an island and forced to kill each other until only one is left standing. Ok, so it sort of sounds like the Hunger Games. But in the Hunger Games there's a more legitimate reason for this killing. And there's people watching. It's so they remember the war and Panem etc... and it's for the Capitol to watch for entertainment.

In Battle Royale, they could have worked together to escape!! In beginning they're all like I can't kill them, they're classmates!!, next minute 40 of them are slaughtered. There weren't any ships in the damn sea, they could have escaped. It was so irritating! There weren't even any cameras!

And the writing! It felt like the author rushed it, I don't know whether it was because of the translation, but i just didn't like how it was written. Ok so they are trying to get away from their insane classmate (who decided to kill everyone because the coin landed on tails, What the hell) and "we were trying to drive as fast as we could.... Kazou is catching up and he's right behind us!!" After a few more quotes from Noriko. Shogo or the other guy once again says, Kozou's right behind us! Remember to shoot. My god it was cheesy! Well yeah nah, he's in la la land practicing his bow when he wins the game, OF COURSE he's right behind you! There were unnecessary things and that just made it soo boring!

What was with all that violence! In my opinion it was just a book about senseless killing and what was with the weapons. So each person gets a bag that has food, water and a weapon. One guy got a fork, wow that's so helpful, he died (well, if someone with a machine gun, let's say the most insane person in the class managed to get that machine gun, you're so going to survive, I mean, it's a fork, a fork is totally going to protect you). Another guy got a violin, a violin, he died too.

The characters were the girl with problems, rich kid, poor kid, class clown, pretty girl, quiet girl, loving couple and you get the story. Do I really need to explain any further?

Oh, the main student antagonist, Kazou. I hated him. There was a girl who was going to kill him (she was soo close, I was hoping that she killed him, but it was pretty obvious she was going to get killed) and he just kills her without even looking while he is trying to build a fire. Sorry, but if you were trying be badass, that just failed.

There were no twists no suspense, nothing. No wits, no sensible strategy. The love triangle was like athletic guy devoted to protect the poor weak girl. AWWWW!!! SO CUUUUTE! NO, it was not adorable not cute it was YUCK! YUCK YUCK YUCK YUCK!

This was one of the worst books I have ever read, it's just about mindless, insane, dimwitted people who can't think of any other way to resolve their problem but kill. I don't get why people can compare it to the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games was AWESOME, Battle Royale, awesome? Not even close. (less) [edit]
