Donna (katfeaver) | 3 comments As a kid I fell in love with the book "My Side of the Mountain" and I realized that my love of dystopian books probably came in part from that novel since it involved survival on ones own. I am wondering if there are any books that are post apoc/dystopian in nature with that same survival theory. I'm not into zombies but the theory of survival after something like an EMP happening and having to go back to a previous style of life. Any suggestions? I read "Surviving the Fog" and it had some elements that were similar and I enjoyed that. I would love to find something similar, either a stand alone or a series. Thanks in advance for any suggstions!

I haven't read "My Side of the Mountain", but I also like post-apocalyptic books. Some of my favorite are YA - the Ashfall trilogy is one of my all time favorites. I also enjoyed Gone series. A stand-alone book is Not a Drop to Drink, and another, NOT YA, is To The Survivors. Another YA one is Monument 14 series. I like ones where disease (man-made, usually) kills most everyone - like The Release series, Vacancy, and of course The Stand. One series that has a strong female character is Tent City and Red River.

Hope this helps!

Hi Donna,
I never read My Side of the Mountain but if you are looking for a more reality-based post-apocalyptic/dystopian, you should try A Gift Upon the Shore

Shannon | 5 comments I'm somewhat hesitant to recommend these books because all except the first are self published and could use a good editor. It mostly runs the gamut of prepper fiction. I don't have anything against prepper fiction, but, the lead characters tend to be white male ex Special Forces who are married to nurses and have a male and a female child. One Second After is slightly out of that mold, but, not by a lot.

You may note that I gave some of these books 4-5 star ratings, but, that's more so that Goodreads will recommend similar books than it is an endorsement of how I actually feel about the books.

One Second After
Lights Out
The Jakarta Pandemic
