The language on the site can be slightly misleading at times. A super-user is necessary if a book is on the shelves of 10 or more users NOT if 10 or more users have rated/reviewed it. The site sometimes "assumes" that anyone who has a book on their shelf has reviewed it and uses language which may be incorrect in that sense. When you merge a book it states "That edition has been deleted. 12 reviews were merged", but in this case "reviews" actually means "users with book on a shelf". However, the site is smart enough to not count unrated books when it estimates average ratings, so the average rating count only includes those who have rated a book, not just those who have it on their shelf.

The two books you mention above only had 3 ratings each, but were actually on 12 and 15 user's shelves, respectively, which is why they required a super-user to delete.

I doubt this is a unique edition. It was entered with no ISBN and with the wrong publication date (1378 vs. 1995)--I had to enter a publication date so I could merge it with the correct author since the author's name had been entered with a typo:
