Ch 26 - (view spoiler)[ I feel so badly for Magnus right now (even if he is an ass). I'm worried that what just happened between him and Lucia will turn him into the cold-hearted killing machine that his father is. I really hope not, but I can see it coming. I am also a bit shocked that he killed Theon - I thought for sure that he and Cleo would go off searching for the seeds together and get to enjoy being in love with each other as suggested by Cleo's sister's advice. I thought they would have more time than just a single kiss. That sucks! (hide spoiler)]

Finished - (view spoiler)[ Ok so Cleo just has to keep that ring out of the King's hands. Come on Cleo - don't fail me know. Obviously Jonas will rescue her in the next book, but she better have that ring! I really hope that Lucia wakes up to her father's ill intentions.
It's obvious that he really doesn't care for her, just wants to use her. If she doesn't wake up, maybe Magnus will stand up to his father and stop him?? One can only hope! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1 - 9

(view spoiler)[ So far, I really enjoy this book. There a definitely some Game of Throne Vibes but it also feels a lot like YA.

I like Cleo and also Theon, although the idea of the princess falling in love with her guard being forced to marry some idiot isn‘t really new.

I don‘t know if I‘m going to like Lucia. So far she seems a bit boring. But she didn‘t have as much chapters as the others, so I will just way and judge later.

Magnus seems pretty interesting. I feel sorry for him because of his father. His crush on Lucia on the other hand is pretty... I don‘t know, I wanna say iuh. I means sure, we know already that they are not actual siblings but still, they are raised together as brother and sisters...

I feel like Cleo will end up a marriage with Magnus for political reasons. Which would be really interesting.

Anyways, it‘s hard to stop reading, because I‘m really intrigued by the story. (hide spoiler)]

The writing is really addictive!!

Absolutely! Magnus has some serious issues. He didn't know about her sister not being her sister, so his feelings were totally wrong and he knows it, but it's creepy how he still tries to find ways to justify them. (hide spoiler)]

Magnus is really weird but he is growing on me. I‘m hoping that he decides to ditch his father and choos the right side. I feel like he could become a pretty good king. But still, this whole being in love with our sister thing is so awkward, especially since he is not just in love with her, he thinks she is this pretty, innocent Angel.
And it‘s insane how good he is at justifyng things! I haven‘t realised this before I read your post!

I don‘t like Lucia. She seems pretty boring because she is just too perfect and innocent. All the other characters seems so much more real because they struggle with doing the right things and make mistakes and all.

And also the sudden relationship between Theon and Cleo was a bit too sudden. It felt like I missed a chapter.

But nevertheless, I really like the book. It‘s pretty fast paced, which I love, and the story is really interesting. Since it‘s advertised as a books for Game of Throne fans, I just knew Theon would die. Poor Theon, I really like him. I bet there will be more people dying in this book... (hide spoiler)]

Ok, I had already done the first 4 chapters before setting this up, so paused there to wait. Not going to move forward until tomorrow evening likely but here are my thoughts so far:

(view spoiler)[ The prologue started off strong and dark so I'm super excited to see where it goes. It appears that Lucia is the baby that Sabina stole in the prologue based on the time line.. Curious if she is from the same Kingdom as Jonas. Also.. ch 3... HE IS IN LOVE WITH HIS OWN SISTER?! I was not prepared for some Game of thrones type of business here... wondering if that is going anywhere. There are a lot of names of people and places and I'm listening to the audio so it is going to take me a bit longer to really grasp them all. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 1-4

(view spoiler)[ I can already tell this book is going to be an exhilarating ride. The kill-off of the sister was honestly shocking. I was really not expecting it only in the prologue. And then later, when the Aron kills the wine makers son. Like jeez hold off for like a chapter alright. I do have to say I love the quickness of the plot. Probably the weirdest part was when Lucia brother says he has very deep emotions for her besides the brother and sister thing. I like her dynamic with her guard and the tension between her and Aron. I hadn't expected her to have slept with Aron before! I'm not sure how I feel yet about Jonas' chapters. I feel bad his brother was murdered and I think he will grow on me, just not overly invested yet. I do also love Magnus' chapters and his family dynamics. I'm slightly less weirded out about his attraction to Lucia with my thoughts on who she is but it's still a weird place for him to be when he believes she is his sister. Chapters 4-9

(view spoiler)[ wow. This book keeps on getting better and more intriguing. We learn about Cleo’s sister, Emilia. We also learn Cleo’s secret. That was not what I was expecting but makes sense. Jonás is going to attack Cleo and Aron. I think Aron kinda deserves it though. I can’t wait to see where he goes with his plan. Also, the more I read this, the more I see why it’s compared to game of thrones. The almost rape that happens between Cleo and Aron. And Honestly I Hate, and I mean HATE, Aron.

I think Lucia secret, she’s been keeping for a month, is that she likes her brother Marcus. This whole book is very weird with siblings. First, we kill them cold heartedly and have crushes on them. What’s next?

King Gaius. By the way, that’s basically my last name and that’s how you properly pronounce it. Except it’s spelled one letter off and people always pronounce it like gay-as or guy-z. (It’s Italian) I thought that was cool. anyways... the king starts a war with the chief to conquer Auranos. Then to prove he’s serious he kills his rumored son. What the heck. I’m so glad I’m reading this. Honestly, I needed something to get me out of this reading slump. I love the story building of how now they put more of the watchers in and how an actual quest is starting. I can’t wait to finish and read the rest in the series!

I really am enjoying the build up of this world and the different kingdoms. Some of the characters are a lot more enjoyable to read from and some I've yet to feel all that invested in but I'm holding out that most of them will grow on me as the series goes on.

Anxious to see him go after her! I also liked Cleo seeing the harsh realities of poverty in the other kingdoms and noting how different her life is. Maybe she won't be a spoiled princess forever if she can see that.

Magnus' father knows he is in love with Lucia but still lets him believe she is his sister by blood rather than telling him the full truth! Ugh!

Now two people know that magus has a crush on Lucia. Wow. I feel that everyone will find out and magus will be looked at different. King Gaius should really tell him that they are not related by blood.

(view spoiler)[ So Cleo.. was happy to see her attempt to fight/keep Nikolo safe/stay strong when Jonas captured her. And so utterly saddening that Theo got killed!! I was not prepared for that one to happen :(

That scene with Magnus and Lucia... sheesh.. maybe he coulda actually told her the truth BEFORE he forced a kiss on her. Yikes. No wonder she reacted as she did! And of course, now he is basically pouting and acting like a brat because she didn't return his affections. But he did save the kitchen girl and that was so sweet <3 There is still some good in him even if he thinks his heart has gone to ice.

War is definitely on the horizon! It is appearing though that we won't see much but build up of it in this book. (hide spoiler)]

King Giaus is awful and brutal! I hope Magnus finds a way to hold onto some of his kindness that is inside him and doesn't turn out quite as terrible as his father but I'm worried he won't.. (hide spoiler)]
