It's another reason to avoid vanity publishers if you are trying to publish because they take you under guise of helping you do all this to a professional quality and then give you the shoddiest job imaginable. The worst books I have seen are from vanity publishers.

Can you imagine if they labeled what can of author an author is on here or Amazon. Like next to your name it would say, self published, indie or traditionally?

except that it's not cast in iron. Or even jello. An author can do all three, in sequence, or even simultaneously, using indie or self for more niche stuff while still publishing traditionally.
