Carol Bean | 4 comments Hi. I'm an the indie-author of a book about joy (Tender Heart of Joy) but most of the time I'm just another gray haired lady trying to make the most of being drop-shipped to a beautiful but most confounding planet. Who are you?

Teri (i_smell_books) | 1 comments Hi!

My name is Teri. I've been in this group approximately a month. I don't think I've introduced myself.

I love apocalyptic and post apocalyptic books the most. Then dystopian, scifi, young adult and fantasy genres. Of course, I LOVE to read and I'm thrilled to have found goodreads. Though, I'm not sure why I didn't find it years ago?!! Considering I'm techy.

My goal on goodreads is to find books that interest me. Please *friend request* me if you have the same interest in the genres I've listed above. It doesn't have to be exactly all of the above and even if you enjoy other genres there maybe something outside my comfort zone that I might read. Please! I'm not a stalker or spammer. Im a plain ol' reader. Not an Author. that's it. (Not intended as an insult to authors at all) authors ARE the reason I'm here. Right? I'm genuinely looking to fill my feed with what you are reading and talking about. Listopia is great but it only touches on the most popular and not those hidden gems!!:)

Thank you and can't wait to connect with everyone!

Teri

Maggie Young (maggiegeorgianayoung) Just Another Number

Hello everybody!
My name is Maggie Young and I am a new author from Seattle. I'm looking to get more readers and reviewers for my book, Just Another Number. It's a memoir structured around the first 23 men I had sex with. It's about how society curbs women to validate themselves by men. I am currently working on a new project focused on gender equality.

Robert Eggleton | 27 comments Welcome John. I belong to the I Survive forum, but I don't visit very much. I haven't had night terrors for years. Plus, and this is goofy, since I'm licensed to practice in WV, an ethics complaint could be filed if I simply reply to a post by someone living outside of my home state. It could be considered to be practicing without a license. What a load, huh? Good luck with your book!

Ryan Hill (httpwwwaugusthillauthorcom) | 2 comments Hey Everyone-Glad to be a apart of this group. A little about me: My name is Ryan Hill, and I am a fiction writer. My Debut novel, Barking Madness, is a dark and witty YA Psychological Thriller with lots of Paranormal twists and turns. It is also a coming of age story that provides an inside peek at the mind of teens, in the complicated and awkward high school years. The book features two protagonists with alternating POV’s and a psychotic killer. I really enjoyed creating the different layers of characters and relationships in the story and felt I was successful in building believable and distinctive personalities. The supporting characters have strong voices, as well, and will grab the reader’s attention. I first started writing down ideas for my story in middle school and in July 2013 before my senior year, I decided to take the plunge and start writing my novel. After a lifetime of playing soccer, I quit the high school team and unbeknownst to anyone, began writing. I was completely dedicated and had a complete manuscript in 8 months. Barking Madness was published by Pulse Publishing in August 2015.

I'm a mom of 5. I read WAY too much- but really- is there a "too much?"

We don't watch TV, we read. My 9 year old is plowing through The Ruins of Gorlan and i'm so proud I can hardly stand it.

I LOVE indie authors and have reviewed BUCKETS of books.

My husband is an author and self-publishes. I love his writing (we dated by him reading Darkward Bound: A Dark Comedy of Errors & Espionage to me. we were poor like that)

But, I have totally opposite book reading tastes than him. I'm a fangs, fur, fairy, zombie apocalypse type girl. Why would I want to read about real life?

I have an obsession with Beauty and the Beast retellings.

one of my favorites so far being Bryony And Roses

With five kids it's a wonder that you have any concentration left to read! In 1973, my wife read Wind in the Willows to me as we camped across country on our honeymoon for four months. Our camper was built in a 1961 VW bus that didn't have a radio (or a gas guage -- true -- built with an auxiliary emergency tank that had a knob which wouldn't turn!).

Reading dates seemed to always get me in the mood to make out -- must have worked for you too.

Celeste | 22 comments Hi everyone! I'm Celeste, I'm not a writer or a blogger, but then I've just very recently really started using Goodreads even though I joined years ago. I love a wide variety of books so perhaps it would be easier to tell you'll that I don't like biographies of any sort and I prefer fiction. I have written a couple of reviews and I'm working on increasing that number. I have written review for authors before and I look forward to doing it again.
You may email me on menezes_celeste@yahoo.com for any review requests.

Nik Krasno | 9 comments Hi All,

I write Oligarch series in a hard-boiled/noir/ international thriller genre. Two books are out and I'll appreciate reviews of any of them. I'll open a separate thread for that.
Also I'd be glad to meet interesting people, bloggers, fellow authors, politicians, organized crime leaders and other characters that I could write about -:)
I wouldn't mind share some thoughts (usually smart-ass) on subjects I find appealing.
Also, I've opened a group 'Oligarchs & Enrichment' here on GR, if anyone would like to take a look.

Best regards,

Nik

Nice to meet you all.
Best regards,

Nik

Leila Dane | 2 comments Hi all! I'm new here, just starting to get to know my way around. I'm a writer and avid reader, and am self-publishing a sci-fi erotic romance series ("Origins Unbound") mostly as an experiment! Left to my own devices, I write (and read!) a bit of everything but have never attempted publication before. I'm making the leap with this particular work because it's a fun one for me... all story and character and description, with none of the literary angst I tend to fall into when working in other genres. I'm definitely looking for reviewers so I'll post in the Authors and Review Requests folder. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and read some of your work as well!

Robert Eggleton | 27 comments Hi Lungelo,

My brother-in-law wrote his autobiography with a similar theme. Rarity from the Hollow by Robert Eggleton He wants me to to proof it (no problem) and to give him advice on publishing (big problem). Since you've written a similar work, I was wondering if you have any info on publishers who might be interested. While Christian Readership is a huge market, the competition is so stiff that I would be concerned if he decides to spend a lot of money self-publishing it. I couldn't afford to self-publish my debut novel, Rarity from the Hollow, and feel so fortunate that a traditional small press covered the upfront costs. My bother-in-law has a lot more money than me, so he might be more tempted to take the risk. I'm sure that you've felt the psychological drive to publish. It's hard to resist, even when ill advised or premature (not professionally edited). Your input would be appreciated. Please send me a message. Thanks.

message 147: by John (new)

John Fahey | 12 comments I recommend self publishing with Lulu.com. I published my memoir Survival with them and my only costs were in ordering proof copies as I edited it and made corrections. It was very inexpensive. When it was completed Lulu.com did the distribution to Amazon, Barnes&Noble etc, as print on demand. (which is the way the publishing industry is going in).
I converted my book to an ebook format and uploaded it to Amazon. Again no cost to me. It's now in their Kindle store.
I listed my ebook with BookDaily and decided to use them for promotion. I'm pleased with their emerging authors ezine mailing promotion package. I'm using it to promote the ebook edition of my book. It's $49/month and I think that's a modest cost since it's the only promotion cost I have.
In this modern age of self publishing there is no need to spend money to get published. My print book from Lulu has a very professional feel and look.
I wish you good results with publication of your brother-in-law's autobiography and your own works.
John Fahey

Hope you don't mind me adding my two cents about eBook conversion :)

Personally, I use a pretty advanced way to format my books for Kindle (it involves HTML, CSS, and two different editors) which I don't think I can explain in detail without writing an entire book about it. However, this free online converter might help you: http://ebook.online-convert.com/. I've not used it to convert .doc files to eBooks, but I have used it for other conversions (mobi to PDF, mobi to ePub) and I'm really impressed with the results it gives.
