For an author, but using one can really improve your book, and make it enjoyable for others to read. I read here, all the time about how editing is a talent and an art, and how people should expect it to be expensive, in how you get what you pay for. I get that, I really do. But the truth of the matter is, most authors starting out don't have the money for that, and if books and the written are your passion, then you can't fault someone for looking for a price they can afford. I love the written word, I proofread and edit. I am good at it, trained in it and experienced.
