anyone having problems with Echo?

i ended up just listening solely to the audiobook because I was struggling with reading so much and that made it zoom by
I agree with reading them all over from the beginning. I loved Echo (parts dragged, but I remember those parts in most of the other books too), and I think that it's because I read them all over before I started it. It helps to have the whole story fresh in your mind.
It's true, one can get 'hooked' on the more 'heated' aspects of Claire and Jaimie's relationship to the point where you become almost like a junkie, eschewing everything else just so you can get to the 'good' parts sooner...I'm now on my 3rd reading of the entire series so, like in any romantic relationship, I've relaxed and slowed it down a bit so I can better appreciate and relish the complexities and intricacies outside the relationship of our two main characters...and the payback for this effort is well-rewarded - admittedly, when it comes to 'Echo', a little late in the book but soooo worth it!
I have to say, I am halfway through Echo and it is my least favorite, for the first time since beginning the series I'm not as excited to pick it up at night and read. I don't like how we're not with J&C for a lot of it and I'm having a hard time following all these new characters. It might just be that I started the series back in the summer, it takes me about a month to read each book as I have a toddler and I work part time, and I think I'm ready for a new series. Although I do plan on re-reading at least the first 3 probably next year.
...ohhhh, hang in there - I believe ye'll be rewarded - and reach that point so many of us did - DYIN' for #8!
That's what everyone says so I am looking forward to knowing what all the cliffhanger hullabaloo is about.
With the exception of the political stuff LJG goes through I love the change of views. I really loved how we got a bigger part of Willie's life, Bree in the future, and more of Ian's life. I love Jamie and Claire, of course, but I'm happy to spread the love.I loved Echo, it was my third favorite.
Mine, too, Wendy. Even though there are many different views in this book, they all ultimately lead back to J&C. I took a break and read Lonesome Dove for the 3rd time and kept thinking how the author used all of the characters to tell the story. Compared to DG using mainly 1 or 2 characters in her earlier books. Echo uses more, but, I liked that. All these storylines are influenced by J&C in some way. I think it broadens the saga and keeps it interesting.
That's exactly how I felt too. It brings in the younger characters and it's smart too because young or older you always have someone to relate to.Kathleen - my two top favorites are 1. Outlander, because it was the first. Jamie and Claire meet, they fall in love, she realizes that she can't leave him... it was just so epic and amazing. 2. Voyager, the introduction of Bree and Roger, meeting young Ian, and of course the reunion!

She does an amazing job! The abridged is narrated by Geraldine something, and I couldn't stand her. Audible.com does NOT have unabridged for Fiery Cross and ABOSAA, so you'll have to buy them somewhere else or get them from the library.
I liked Willie's POV. Plus I felt like he's just as deserving of a POV as Bree is. They're both Jamie's children.LJ was the worst part of the book for me. It was so political.
Of course it was political. It's the Revolutionary war. I thought LJ added a little intrigue to the story and I'm hoping that more of the questions regarding the intrigue are answered in the next book.I've always liked LJ's character. Gives more "texture" to the story.
I like LJ. And I understand that it was going to be political. Those just tended to be the parts where I felt like it was slow. I remember having a hard time with that when I read Private Matter too. I found myself skimming more.

OK - I need to admit that I didn't finish An Echo In The Bone. (And also had to skip some of the comments above to avoid spoilers.) Like some have said, this latest book just draaaaaagged! I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I was beginning to feel disloyal!
I don't know why I couldn't get through it. I loved Outlander, Voyager, and most of the other books. I diligently waited for this new one to come out and I don't know if it was the long wait or because I didn't get enough of a real Jamie & Claire fix right away but I felt so... deflated. Maybe I need to start at the very beginning and power through it all in one swoop. Like when you start from a long distance to get up a steep hill. I don't know, but man... this one is hard.
