I started writing about the LIndisfarne Raid (793) because I live near Holy Island and have been up there many times. The English Heritage site is very evocative. However, there is very little left of the original monastery. Also the Oslo ships which contained a multitude of grave goods were from the end of the period. It is quite possible that some of the things from the raid ended up in those graves. And then after I had written Taken by the Viking, I decided to do the other jaarls from the raid as I enjoyed the world I had researched and tried to bring back to life.
