Ian Loome (lhthomson) | 26 comments Hello everyone and thanks to Rick for the invite. My name is L.H. Thomson and I write a variety of genres of fiction. I've also worked at newspapers for about two decades. I'm ePublishing six books over the next few months, and hope you all get a chance to enjoy them. The first, The Antique Hunters by L.H. Thomson , went up for sale at the Kindle Store this week.

I always rather liked James Mason -- excellent in North by Northwest among others -- and hopefully will bring something new to the group.

Cheers and nice to meet you all,
L.H. Thomson

Cheryl (goodreadscomcherylbdale) | 30 comments Thanks, Rick, for inviting me to join. I have three romantic mysteries coming out this year from MuseItUp and a humorous (at least I hope it's humorous!) mystery coming out from Five Star in December.

I would have thought this was a group devoted to James Mason (somehow; biographies, movies, whatever) if Rick hadn't invited me to join!

Catherine Johnson (kangaroobee) | 2 comments Hi everyone, thanks so much for the invitation to join, I hope I remember to pop by often.

My name is Catherine, I am a stay-at-home mum who loves writing children's picture books and poems and reading all sorts of wonderful books. I am a British ex-pat who moved to Canada from New Zealand (Love you NZ!)

My favorite author is Jody Hedlund, author of The Doctor's Lady.

Patti Larsen (pattilarsen) | 1 comments Thank you for the invitation! I love meeting other readers/writers/bibliophiles :)

I'm a full time writer (and reader!) from the East Coast of Canada with a serious passion for everything to do with the written word.

My favorite author is Anne McCaffery (rest in peace, darling Anne) closely followed by David Eddings (another very sad farewell).

In the meantime, I'm thrilled to have my own books out there in the world, and hope the muse stays close for a long time yet. :)

Happy Friday, all!

Must have been when I just joined GR (NOv) and I was sitting on my page all alone, knowing that outside was a hive of literary activity. :)

Sara Douglas died last year too. She lived just outside Hobart. A prolific and talented Fantasy writer too (although McCaffery was one of my favourites--she defined dragons in fantasy).

Sharon Michael Monica wrote: "my main passion is books. Sometimes I even sit at my desk at work reading when there are at least ten other things that I should be doing instead. I read all genres, and I have never found a book I didn't like. "

Guilty pleasures ... I have read many books when I should have been doing something else! I found at an early age, with my mother a schoolteacher, that reading a book (any book, not just a school book) usually exempted me from most chores!

However, I do have definitely likes and dislikes in books, just don't waste my time on the ones I don't care for.

We seem to have some reading interests in common so will be interested to know your take on Skinwalker when you get to it as it's one of my newest favorites.

message 4668: by C.L.R. (new)

C.L.R. Dougherty | 4 comments Thanks, Rick, for inviting me to join the group. I'm making good, finally, on my promise to drop in and introduce myself.

I'm a Goodreads author; the details are on my profile page:
http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...
I won't repeat those here.

Instead, I'll tell you a few things that aren't there. I'm writing this from the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, which is a small island, split almost evenly between the Dutch and the French. There's a border between the two sides, but not one that most people notice. My wife and I usually spend from mid-November until early April here. We have lived since 2000 on a 35-foot sailboat, and since 2004, we've been cruising the islands of the Eastern Caribbean. At the moment, we're anchored in a lagoon, just about on the border. We're a five minute dinghy ride from some great French bakeries. We normally spend the hurricane season in Grenada, which is about 400 miles south of here, and we explore the other islands on our way south in the spring and north in the fall. If you're interested in what that life is like, we have a sailing blog at http://voyagesoftheplayactor.blogspot... .

Besides sailing and working on our antique boat, I play the classic guitar, although I have been neglecting that recently in favor of writing. I'm about halfway through my next novel. When I get involved in putting a story together, it consumes most of my attention; I spend four to five hours a day writing and rewriting, and a couple of hours on other book related activities. Just living on the boat is time consuming, as well, as you can see from some of the posts on the blog. Mundane things like grocery shopping take an inordinate amount of time.

Not that we're complaining, mind you. This is a great life, but it's not all beaches and umbrella drinks.

My wife and I are both avid readers. We'll read almost anything. Our on-board library comprises several hundred books, although we've been reducing that and moving to eBooks over the last year. EBooks suit us well, as space and weight are both critical on the boat.

Thanks again for the invitation, Rick, and I'm looking to getting acquainted with everyone here.

Charles Dougherty

M.L. Rudolph (mlrudolph) Thanks for the suggestion to post my promo here, Rick. There are lots of these promos so I appreciate everyone's stolen moment to take a look.

FREE TODAY on Amazon Kindle!

Already moving up the best seller lists which is surprising the hell out of me more than anyone.

http://www.amazon.com/Facing-Son-Novel-A...

Please add it to your Kindle, read it on a rainy day, and tell your friends.

I've been to all the places in the book, though it's a made up story. I live with my own family struggles as we all do; I tried to give them some space between the covers. But mainly, I tried to narrate an interesting story about a place for which I have great respect, even though this story happens on the "dark side."

Love it or hate it, please give it a chance.

Andrew St. | 1 comments Hello JMG-

I am Andrew St. Cyr, author of "Logos Anima: The First Transcendence," and I was recruited into this group by the owner himself. I feel truly honored when I read Rick's emails about the importance of this group, of books and of my personal influence on the group. This honor extends even further when it seems that the members of this group seem mostly hand-picked by this man and others within the group.

If you should know only one thing about me, let it be that my deepest passions, my sincerest efforts and my most adamant dreams do not depend on a god, but on Humanity instead. To me, YOU are worth every word that I say, every effort of my hands, and every breath of my lungs. Let me honor and please you by those actions.

Happy reading!

Rachel Abbott (rachel_abbott) | 2 comments Thanks to Rick for inviting me to join this group.

My name is Rachel Abbott, and my debut novel Only the Innocent is doing rather well (she says modestly!). Well - it is #1 on Amazon UK (Kindle paid store) including #1 in Crime, Thrillers and Mystery - so perhaps just for a couple of days, it's okay to say it's doing well? Please don't boot me out of the group just yet. I had specific instructions from Rick to tell everybody about it!!

It is, of course, here on Goodreads, and doing ok in the US with quite a few reviews - all four and five star.

One of the things I've been asked all week since getting the top spot is "how did you do it?". I can't claim to have a magic formula, and I'm not going to write a book about it - but I AM going to blog about it in the hope that other writers might find a couple of useful ideas.

Part 1 of the blog has just been posted at http://rachelabbottwriter.wordpress.com

Looking forward to getting to know you, and find out what sort of books you are all reading!

Rachel

PS if this is the wrong place to post this, just let me know. I'm new, but I don't want to break any rules.
